Yes, I neglected to cover that. A good belt as well as a good holster are non negotiable!

I'm well on the chubby side and carry a P365 in an Alien Gear IWB holster at 4 o'clock. It's so comfortable that I never really feel it there. IMHO if you're going to carry, then carry. The reality is that you won't get to choose when (hopefully and likely never) you need to have it. Better to be looking at it than looking for it. The other obvious piece is regular training and drills with your setup so you can draw from different positions and engage targets in different directions.

I reckon it's the spring break effect. Lots of people travelling.

I carry the P365 and my buddy has the Hellcat. Both are excellent guns and very reliable. My main reason for choosing the Sig was the availability of a manual safety. I won't carry a gun without one which is purely a personal choice and not a comment on the pros and cons.

One thing is for sure, if Biden pushes gun control now it makes a mockery of his healing and unity messaging.

I reckon it will take longer as people continue to hoard way beyond their needs. At a USPSA match earlier this month one of the guys was telling us that his friend had close to a million SP primers stocked up in his garage. That sort of hoarding is what's causing most of the problems today.

Sounds like a MEC is the way to go. Finding one at the moment is the challenge!

indeed! -
Yep, even second hand ones have gone up in price. Last time I was in Walmart they had plenty of 20ga birdshot. I hadn't heard about Dems wanting to ban shells, what on God's green earth would this achieve???
-
Yeah, that works well but I've had jams with lower powered rounds.
-
It's 12 guage for trap/skeet I want to load, 7 1/2 - 9 shot. Shotgun cartridges have not been as badly affected by the current shortage as the likes of 9mm or .223 but there is less on the shelves. I shoot an autoloader so higher fps is better and that can be hard to find currently. I am well stocked right now but I'm looking at the future. I'm not expecting to save money reloading shotshell but I can see a day when if I don't reload, I won't be shooting. If you ever decide to move that 12ga Mec Jr onwards, let me know!

I have a couple of bags of shot. I'm also reasonably well stocked on factory cartridges, this is more about planning for the next shortage (if this one ever ends!).

I'm looking at getting into shotshell reloading as I have all of the components. I don't shoot huge amounts of it, maybe a couple of hundred rounds a month, so not keen on investing large amounts of money into it. The ones I've researched so far are Lee Loadall (cheap but seems to do the job) and MEC 600jr (big step up in quality but starts to get expensive with chargebars etc. I'd likely use my existing auto trickler for powder so cost of powder bushings shouldn't be an issue. Anyone willing to share experiences (good and bad) with shotshell presses for low volumes?.

Absolutely! I would say only use used sheets. New ones can leave a gicky coating on cases.

Lizard bedding works fine. I have a similar workflow to @DeepSouth, use the bedding (with a capful of nufinish added every couple of months) for initial cleaning, deprime and resize, and then into corn cob (with a capful of brass polish added every couple of months).

I have the FA one with the bucket and sifter. Does the job fine for about $70 IIRC.

Mantis X : Worth the price of admission?

I have one and find it very useful for improving fundamentals. Videoing the target won't do anything but videoing yourself is always useful, especially for draws etc.- 7 replies

Thank God I reload!

I use Reloaders Workshop. The creator has sadly passed on but his relatives made the source code publicly available. It's great software with tons of features, including a shot calculator which figures out group size etc from a scanned target. It can also be used for inventory management and cost analysis.

There's a whole bunch of reasons feeding into the shortage: Demand is at tenfold levels for normal years as a result of COVID and civil unrest; it's also an election year which feeds demand. Around four million new gun owners are also feeding into this. The major four manufacturers produce about 8 Billion rounds a year for the US consumer market. Production has been disrupted by COVID and requirements for social distancing in facilities. There is a shortage of raw materials. Even though mining was designated an essential business, production is down so brass, lead, copper etc are more expensive and in shorter supply. Primers are still pretty much hand made and it is not a short process to train people to do it so this is a big issue. Trucking is also down about 5% so moving material around the country is also feeding the problem. Manufacturers have ramped up shifts where possible but don't want to invest into new production lines for what is potentially a short term problem. There are really only two makers of large scale ammunition production equipment and it is not cheap. This situation really is a perfect storm and is unprecedented. On the plus side, if Trump wins, we should expect normality to return sometime around summer of 2021. If Biden wins it could be a lot longer, if it ever does return. There's a very good YouTube video which goes through this in a lot more detail but I can't find the darn thing right now. Will try find it and post. EDIT - Found it! This is long but well worth a watch:
