Call Coal Creek back and check with them first. They may give you a discount for taking it again with them. If they won't work with you, call the Knox County Sherrifs Regional trainning Academy and ask for Senior Instructor Sgt. Mike Lett. He teaches the HCP course. Course retakes are $65 (I think). It happened to a friend and Mike took off $20. Knox County Sherrifs Regional Trainning Academy Senior Instructor Sgt. HCP Holders - Supplemental Qualification Opportunity
kwe45919 replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
After reading this whole thread (I was bored at work)....I'll say that my instructor knew that I had had previous training before and that my range practices were of the "militarized" kind. Being the only "large" caliber handgun in class with my Kimber Pro Carry I received a little extra attention along with various questions as to why I chose the weapon. The instructor, during the qualifying session, left me alone and helped the ladies and other people whom didn't have any experiance. There was no actual scoring of my target. The instructor walked into my lane, looked at the ragged hole center mass of the target, shrugged his shoulders and said, "Figures." He smiled and wrote Pass 50/50 100% on the upper left hand of the target. Funny thing is I actually carry a smaller caliber handgun then what I "qulified" with. -
Mrs. Kerr at her finest - New editorial

The whole gun/bar debate is awsome. While carrying into a "drinkin'" bar that has dancers and pool tables is a no-no for me, I happen to enjoy places like Applebee's, O'Charlies or many other "steak" houses that serve liquor/beer. Having to disarm for those establishments seems kinda petty considering they have the "family/sports environment" and aren't really bars but restaurants. Yet because they sell liquor/beer, I can't protect my family while eating there. It's not whether I drink or not while I'm there, I'm smarter than that, it's the fact that as a sober law abiding adult, I can not protect myself and my family against those who break the law and carry into those types of establishments and whom might drink a little to much and pull their firearm. (BTW...don't tell me to not eat at those places. Tell the wife!! -
Mine took about 27 days to get to me from the day I did the paperwork and got finger printed, then again that was 5 years ago.I've tended to notice the people whom already have had their "prints" on file for years have received their permit back sooner than others whom haven't. Then again maybe I just got lucky. Time of year also factors into it. I'd also assume that with the democrats in office, people buying guns and ammo, are more than likley attempting to get thier permits as well causing an increase in paperwork to the state of TN therefore causeing delays. My .02........

opinion on a lefty holster for a righty
kwe45919 replied to Shima's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Not that this pertains to carrying 2 guns, but I carry my G26 in a lefty Blackhawk IWB in the 5 o'clock position. I am right handed. It is more natural for me to draw that way vs. a right handed IWB in the same comfortable spot..... On a side note, my "BUG" would be pretty small...usually small enough for an ankle holster in the winter and a pocket holster for the summer. Guess it'll depend on the type/size/make/model of BUG you are planning on carrying. If it's a KelTec P11 or a Bersa .380, maybe another OWB holster is needed, but where are you going to carry other things on your belt like spare mags, cell phone, flash light or other "perfered to need to carry items" -

Seems we've been down the same road. I'm all for anyone useing any brand they are comfortable with. That way if the s*it hit the fan.....hopefully they will be able to use the weapon more effectively and can keep them selves and others from being hurt or dead.

I have 4 of the KCI mags as well. I've never had a problem with them yet. Maybe 60 rounds out of each so far but they feed just like my stock Glock 15 rounders.... Definatly a good choice for range mags.

I'll bite on this one. I have owned an XD9 and a KelTec P11 before and really just didn't care much for either. The P11 is much lighter and smaller but most uncomfortable when "training" with it. (After all, you shouldn't go "practice" with your carry guns, you should go train with them. ) Yes there have been issues with different KelTec's in various calibers but the company seems solid and has continued progression on their nitche of the market producing better and smaller defensive firearms.... The XD9 (much like a Glock) is a solid built firearm that still has the concealability needed for confortable carry in shorts-n-t shirt (IWB) and is a comfortable firearm to train with. Reliability of the XD series along with the Springfield name make this sub compact a great choice for personal defense carry. Between these two choices, I'd choose the XD hands down. It can do more "comfortably" than the KelTec. A firearm being comfy in your hands can help with the natural and trained abilities you have and help them to shine when you need it most. As I said before, I have owned both of these firearms. Neither were confortable enough to shoot naturally which effected my aim and concentration. Out of 8 to 10 platforms I've attempted to use as a carry weapon, I have converted back to my Glock time and time again because to me, it's a natural extension of my hand. Fitment is perfect, shooting is a cinch and they are very simple pistols. Choose what you want but make sure you factor in your daily uses, with feel, fitment and concealability.

East end or West end?? My inlaws live off of Georgia.... I'll only go walking when it's warm, that's when I carry my Glock... Thanks for the warm welcome guys. Looks like a fun time for all to have....

I own/carry a Kimber Pro Carry2 1911. This firearm is amazing to shoot and is an awfull deadly "tack driver". I've carried this for 4years and have put a little over 8K rounds through it with absoutly no issues. It doesn't matter the name brand of what firearm you get or the model, just make sure it "fits" you, your life style and practice with it as often as possible.... But you knew this already......

Hello to all on this forum. Figured I'd actually register instead of just reading everything once every few weeks or so. Not much to tell really, I'm just like most of you guys. I'm married and have a 3yr old daughter and work my "color collar" job. I've had my HCP for around 4 years but have had firearm instruction and schooling since the tender age of 13. (my first hunters saftey course) I have received individual training with military and police personel over the years. I have family currently in the Knox County Police Dept. and have family and friends in Iraq and Afganastan. (Bring'em home saftley please) I have 2 firearms of choice for my daily carry routine. The climate is akward around here and over the past 30yrs it's only gotten worse. For my spring, summer and fall, I carry a Glock26 and for the absolut winter and colder months.....I carry my Kimber Pro Carry2 1911. That's going to be all the info I'm giving out for now other than the color of my boxers.(if someone really wants to know the color, let me know.) I kinda feel like this is AA or something of the sorts introducing myself here. Hi I'm Kevin, I love long walks on short piers and often fall off of them if I'm chewing gum on the 2nd Tuesday of the third month of a leap year....... Know what I mean??
