1.     Thank you gun.   Canning is really pretty straight forward. Like handloading, you learn the concepts and adhere to the guidelines.   These are Kosher Dills. I added dill we planted earlier (in May), garlic cloves, grape leaves (for crispness), and dill seed.   I would highly recommend The Ball Bluebook, if anyone is interested.
2. It's amazing how fast things can grow with a bit of warmth and a little rain. :pleased: May June The below cukes are from just this week.... Ummmm.... I guess I'll make Bread & Butter pickles next week. My bush beans are almost ready to pick...the pole beans are about a week behind them. It just goes to show you, even in the suburbs, gardens can be productive..But beware...gardening is a gateway activity that can lead to canning. :hat:
3.     All the more reason to have a physical copy in my home library my friend.   Even though I'm an old Corpsman, I am sorely lacking in meaningful group tactics practical experience. Dry I can handle. My time serving with the Corps was with MSG (Marine Security Guards)...not a lot of field tactics in our Embassies LOL. And the knowledge paradigm related to Urban Conflict has shifted dramatically since I served.   Thanks Spots.
4. Glad you got it cleaned out Dol.   Good luck on the new powder and load.
5. Thanks Dol. And you anticipated my next question regarding that particular powder...   I've never used Lil'Gun powder. If I try it I will certainly bear this in mind. Sorry that happened to you Good Sir.   Is your RCBS powder dispenser ruined? Or can you get the glued on powder out?
6. I'm surprised to hear that Dolomite.   Is your reloading setup in a climate (humidity) controlled area?
7. Thanks Spot. I'll add "Contact" to my list.   That's good to hear about the "Holding their own" series of books as well...I just added them as well. Much obliged.
8. About all I shoot are Glocks in 9mm. After countless thousands of handloads I've never encountered a problem with my brass and "Glock  Smiles", if that is what they were talking about.   I inspect my brass as I'm handloading, if the brass looks questionable I just toss it in my scrap bucket...I've yet to have one of my handloads rupture...but I'm not pushing +P+ levels either.   :2cents:
9.   I'm probably too much of an old goat for the electronic versions LOL. Heck...I'm still impressed by fire... :pleased:   But I too would think I am being taken to the cleaners if I didn't have the physical unit that could be shared around.
10.   LOL...Now you done gone and spoiled our fun.   See how easily we entertain ourselves? :pleased:   Thanks for sharing the info nra.  We actually do appreciate it.           tartan...I do have an extra flux capacitor if you ever need one. :shhh:
11. What? You guys don't do time travel?
12.   I appreciate what you're saying about the cost my friend. It's a ridiculous system...but I've passed on the books I purchased to my son, who has also shared them around. The "Tate" books have actually helped his wife and a couple of others to better understand the concept of prepping and in her case, actually embrace it. I too think they are overpriced for the amount of book you get...no doubt...but as long as the quality of the material remains good I'll keep buying them and passing them along.       Murgatroy   to the Survivalist's Series by Ahern.   I still have the series in a box in my basement...they've been read, loaned out and returned more than a few times. They are about to the point of falling apart. The series was quite unique and innovative at the time, even if way over the top towards superhero status...but very enjoyable at the time. Heck...I still want one of those COP .357 mags that Natalia had LOL. An old shooting buddy of mine back in MS (another big Ahern fan) actually had a "brace" of Detonics, shoulder rig and all...fine shooting little pistols.  :pleased:
13. It looks like the new Glenn Tate book is out on Amazon...I do like Amazon Prime. :pleased: Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0615828507/ref=pe_340070_30475800_email_1p_0_ti       Spots: I'm half way through with " Patriot Dawn" by Max Velocity...Excellent read thus far my friend.   Link: http://www.amazon.com/Patriot-Dawn-Resistance-Max-Velocity/dp/1480139688/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1371282435&sr=1-2&keywords=max+velocity+books     Robert: I read "One Second After" before "Light's Out" as well. Both were great reads, but I found "One Second After" the better of the two...very sobering in it's dealings with a potential reality.
14.     Exactly my friend. This is something that I would think most members would be able to take advantage of...I know I'd pick up a couple of them. I'd also purchase the patch for my range bag of course.             Thank you David.
15. Thank you for the consideration David.   I will gladly commit to a couple of patches as well. But I also hope you will consider Spiffy's idea of a pin. As Randy mentioned, the versatility of a pin would be very useful.
16. Of course, you're right tartan. The backorders will eventually ship. Being able to lock in at a decent price? I have no complaints.
17. I like the patch idea, as I don't wear a vest...I just use my EDC wear...   Is there a possibility of TGO producing a run of patches? Not necessarily with the bullet hole logo...nothing wrong with that...but maybe a patch with just "TGO" on it?     Spiffy told me I missed the last TGO Intro at ORSA. Maybe we can have another at the July Match.
18. Same here folks...and a couple of my buds I gave a head's up to already received theirs... I agree, most probably human intervention.   I find it aggravating because I ordered the .22's for a friend that wasn't able to place the order at that time.   I guess it's just the nature of the beast these days.
19. Thanks Luke and Dolomite.   Have you guys considered making this a stickie? Or perhaps a tutorial?   Obviously I marked this thread, but I would think other folks venturing into carbine/rifle reloading would find this info very helpful as well.   Much obliged folks.
20. This is an excellent, and informative thread. Thanks!    All I shoot in my handguns are my handloads...But It's been quite some time since I've reloaded .223/5.56, but I've been collecting and acquiring brass...I have primers, a couple of powders, and even have some 55 gr bullets still on hand.   I've had "issues" with buckling the shoulders before...and for quite a few years factory ammo was affordable... Not any longer...   I have a set of small base RCBS dies coming this week, and thanks to the excellent info on this thread I'm looking forward to rolling my own 5.56.     That most recent "tip" is excellent Dolomite.
21. I've only had the opportunity to shoot one steel challenge match at ORSA, but it was a blast.   Yes, you only stand in one spot for the most part, but it's an good format to practice transitional shooting. The folks SO'ing and shooting the match are excellent resources and extremely helpful...as well as some incredible shooter...like John and Jason. :hat:   At ORSA, you can shoot .22 carbines (I shot my 10/22) or .22 cal handguns, as well as normal pistol calibers.   I plan to make the next Steel Challenge at ORSA. If you find yourself in East TN you should look into it. I think you'll find it a great venue.
22.   Whew...those I would pull and use the bullets and brass for my own handloads. Ya gotta be cautious... :2cents:
23.   Good point JAB.   My frame of reference is from my deer and hog hunting youth in the swamps and marshes of south Mississippi. At 15-25 yds it was highly effective. I haven't had the opportunity to hunt deer in TN...yet... :pleased:       To all: As regards to home defense: I keep and AR and my Mossy handy. At in home distances, 10-12 yds is a relatively long shot. As I referenced previously, working within the "A" zone capabilities of a shotgun (aimed like a rifle), buckshot has a profound impact (pun intended) on it's target. I have cared for folks shot with # 6 or 8 shot from about 5-7 feet...very nasty, and buckshot from 8-10 feet...again very nasty...But it all depends on target area struck, and vital organs penetrated, as to the end result.   That being said, most people, with reasonable training, can hit more accurately and quickly (multiple shots) using a carbine (AR/AK). Current training dictates a NSR (Non Standard Response) of 3-5 shots at the center of whatever target is presented for the carbine platform. But I'm going off on a tangent...   imho...A shotgun is a formidable home defense weapon. As Col. Cooper's Rule # 4 states: Be sure of your target and what's beyond it. This applies to shotties and carbines...both have their place in our home defense battery.   :2cents:
24. This is just my unsolicited opinion. If you can only take one class this year, please consider this one.   I know Randy as a man of personal integrity and honor, someone I respect. I also know his background and training. He brings much to the plate.   There are a lot of folks that can teach you to shoot, and that is an essential element of your training. But Randy can teach you to fight…that’s another element altogether...for many a paradigm shift. As Randy cautions, this is not a novice course…but well worth working towards.   Having a new gun to put in your safe or that stack of ammo in your basement is good indeed. But investing in yourself through this invaluable training that Randy is offering is the best investment you could make imho.
