I have cared for people shot with 230 gr 45acp Hydra-shok. They had excellent penetration and expansion. Very impressive. That's the round I've carried in my 1911's for a long time. .380's can be very finicky about feeding hollowpoint ammo...very finicky in my experience. I had an AMT .380 Backup that a friend throated and polished the feedramp for me (mid 1990's) and it feed the Hydra-shoks well...but would only reliably feed ball ammo prior to that. IF your .380 feeds them reliably, you should be GTG.

Thank you Sir. This is my experience with the majority of peace officers I know, especially in my area. A couple are "shooting buddies" and are quite knowledgeable and respectful of the Constitutionally protected Rights we all possess. After all, they are civilians as well, and many are prior military and believe in and hold the same Oath many of us have taken. There are buttheads and duffuses in every profession..and good solid people as well. I judge a person by their actions, not the actions of another...It happens to my profession as well... I've carried a "Truck" gun or "trunk" both here in TN, and back home in MS and LA for nearly 20 years and have never had an issue with it. I use one of the tennis racket bags like I posted above, or something quite similar to store the long gun in my vehicle...just low profile. Common sense...something not always common (LOL) goes a long ways. If I am having to hoof it home because things are so bad I can't drive, I'll go as low profile and off the beaten track as possible. Like tnguy posted...there are a lot of varying potential situations that could happen. Adaptability is a must. :2cents:

I like Oh Shoot's idea. I keep the below in my truck, along with my Glock, spare mags, and GHB. 20 miles is a good distance to cover, and do so low profile. Spots made a great recommendation in a similar thread about having the gear in your GHB stored in thick plastic bags, i.e. contractor type bag. When you must cross water, and that's highly likely in TN, you can float your gear across. There are some solid ideas and good discussion going here.

I put "On Combat" into my "wish list" on Amazon. Thanks Chris. Along that line, I would also recommend "Sharpening the Warrior's Edge" by Bruce Siddle. Very informative imho. LINK

A book I've read and re-read numerous times is "The Principles of Personal Defense" by the late Lt.Col. Jeff Cooper. LINK. I hold it in the same esteem as Sun Tzu's "The Art of War" or Musashi's "Book of Five Rings". Although I don't see eye to eye with Gavin DeBecker on several points, I do find his book "The Gift of Fear" to be well worth reading. LINK. "Mindhunter" by John Douglas was pretty interesting as well...at least back before every TV channel started running series on Profiling... LINK

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Jamie Jackson replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Well, I just finished the Joe Nobody "Holding their Own" series. Excellent! Thanks for the recommendation folks. I received book 3 of the "Going Home" series, Escaping Home and will start it tonight. Does anyone know when we can expect any more Joe Nobody books in his series? I also haven't seen anything more on the "299 Days" saga...anyone? I'm considering ordering "The Eye Of Moloch" by Glenn Beck that Robert mentioned...I hate to start another series when I have 3 of them going already LOL. Any new thoughts or opinions folks? -
Glock KCI and Khan Magazines
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I am totally in agreement with you regards carrying non-factory mags for self defense hipower. I only carry factory Glock mags in my 19, 17, & 26. I apologize if I came across contrary as it was not my intent. -
I just came back from Walmart at Turkey Creek. They had a few 50 round boxes of .22 at $3.99/box. I didn't have a need...but it's good to see and hear of it showing up again, even sporadically.

Glock KCI and Khan Magazines
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I agree 100% on the carrying of the KCI and Khan mags hipower. That's why I said "That doesn’t mean that I would carry the KCI or Khan mags as a part of my EDC. I’ll stick with factory (OEM) Glock mags for that…just because I don’t plan to tempt fate." -

ROFLMAO! Sorry Dude. That's funny! I hate you guys couldn't make it. The setup looked great when I was out there last week. -
Glock KCI and Khan Magazines
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I can appreciate what you're saying UncleJak. :pleased: I have a bunch of OEM Glock mags I purchased when the "Sunset" happened on the Clinton ban. Being a shooter throughout that ban era make me want to "hoard" my OEM mags LOL. I don't personally know anyone using .40 cal Korean mags. Has anyone else had the same .40 cal Korean mag issues as UncleJak? -
ORSA Toys for Tots Match - Nov 2
Jamie Jackson replied to 2Alpha's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
I Really wish I could have attended this match...alas, since we like to eat, I had to work. :yuck: It sounds like a great match, and match concept...and definitely for a worthy cause. Any first hand reports? At least then I could live vicariously... Brazil? Spiffy? -
Over the past few years I have been using KCI and Khan magazines for my Glock 19 and Glock 17 more and more…they are all I now use for range work and matches. I know a few of you guys that I've shot with before do as well... I found that on a few of them I had to use some fine grit sandpaper to smooth the plastic “burs†left over from the manufacturing process. One or two of them required a shot of PermaSilk spray into the mags body tubes to enhance smoothness for the follower. All in all I am very pleased with them and at this point I can’t see any difference in reliability between them and my OEM Glock mags. That doesn’t mean that I would carry the KCI or Khan mags as a part of my EDC. I’ll stick with factory (OEM) Glock mags for that…just because I don’t plan to tempt fate. Btw…I picked up my KCI and Khan G 19 and G 17 mags for $10.0$12.00 each. IIRC my Khan 33 rounders were $15.00-$17.00. One “issue†I have had with Khan mags were with the 33 round “Happy Sticksâ€. The springs just seemed to not have enough strength for reliable feeding. I pick up a Wolff 5% Extra Power spring, swapped them out, and problem sloved. Granted, there isn’t much of a price difference Post-Newtown on the KCI/Khan 33 rounders vs Glock OEM 33 rounders...enough of a savings to make a difference for some though. But if you’ve had feeding issues with your Korean Happy Sticks, Wolff E.P. Springs might help out. Any other Korean after-market Glock mag users? Links below: KCI Glock Mags at Wideners: http://www.wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8797&dir=625|709 Wolff 5% Extra Power springs for 33 round Glock mags: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/513044/wolff-magazine-spring-glock-9mm-luger-33-round-magazines-5-pct-extra-power

Midway has Ruger BX25 mags for $19.99
Jamie Jackson replied to viscero's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Probably true. But eventually...22 LR will return. All the more reason to pick them up, if you need 'em, while they are affordable. Thanks for the head's up viscero. -
You're right musicman. Powder prices really aren't that bad...and purchasing 8 pounders definitely saves a few bucks.

Memories... :pleased:

Great advice above. Spiffy my friend. I'm still using some IMR 3031 and it works great. It sat in my hot and humid "carport" in MS for 10 years. The can on the left was purchased in 1990...the one on the right in 1994.

I don't think this thread can actually be hijacked... We'll be OK Spiffy ...I think... I'm waiting on a Rep from the NSA to post so I can be reassured... :ugh: But...I'd like to join the old fart's thread since I am imminently qualified. :pleased:

Price of lead (And price of bullets?) going to go up?
Jamie Jackson replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Very true. The few places I've located that actually use lead already have them spoken for, and have for a fairly long time. -
Price of lead (And price of bullets?) going to go up?
Jamie Jackson replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thank you Gordon. That's kinda what I figured. Man...shipping would be a bugger! I looked at their website, but wasn't able to glean much from it. Competition for lead wheel-weights in my area of Knoxville is pretty tough, and I imagine it'll only get worse for all of us as time goes by. I need to just keep gathering where I can and certainly plan to add more Falcon bullets to my supply... -
Good on you for thinking of your dog. We do the same in our household. Heck...I like my dogs better than most people I come across. And I gotta agree with Brasil...at least the guy was carrying. There are definite work-a-rounds Brother. I wear scrubs ever day I work, and I manage to carry a G 19 concealed, with reload, to and from work. The gentleman in question just needs to give it a bit more thought and effort. I can't fault the guy from being armed. :pleased:

Price of lead (And price of bullets?) going to go up?
Jamie Jackson replied to a topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Is purchasing lead from them still an available option Gordon? Or have they already shut down folks? You know, Ross Perot warned us of this type of thing many years ago. NAFTA, CAFTA, and GAT...but I didn't see this particular route of loosing our manufacturing base in the U.S.A. We're in trouble folks.(understatement intentional). :2cents: -
A review of recent private training with Randy Harris
Jamie Jackson replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
Sorry to have had to miss what I'm certain was an excellent class GTG. I too trust and respect Randy. Unfortunately my Mother experienced a stroke on the 2nd, and I've spent the majority of the past 3 weeks in Ms tending to her and her affairs. My appreciation to you, Randy, and others for your understanding and kind support. Sharon was fortunate indeed to have Randy's watchful eye and tutelage. What a great foundation to build upon! Thank you for hosting Randy. God willing I'll make the next class, certainly one in the region. Solid training such as this invaluable imho. I also look forward to the other students feedback. -
I'm in the same boat Red. I don't drink, we don't even have alcohol in the house. Just not my thing. No judgements towards others... I enjoy the solitude and focus of reloading...kind of a Zen thing. :pleased:

I am really sorry to hear about this Jordan. I'm glad your BOB/GHB and rifle weren't available to the thieving bastards. I had my truck broken into in Slidell LA in 1995. I had a Glock 23, 3 magazines, and a Surefire flashlight stolen. It was in the multistory parking lot of the hospital I worked at... (with what was professed to be: Security  ). My home owners insurance paid for my loss. State Farm at the time. The Glock is still listed with NCIC and I yet a yearly telephone call from Slidell PD that keeps it active on the list. I'm sure it was tossed in one of the many swamps around New Orleans long ago... So...Have you checked with your homeowners insurance yet? Sorry if I missed this if it was already mentioned. Good Luck Jordan.
