Yes...it is an ingenious solution to a nonexistent problem. The COP,back in the day when most peace officers carried .357 revolvers, gave the option of a way too powerful backup gun for it's size. Read as flamethrower. Short of shoving into a waiting receptacle...an orifice...an pulling the trigger one would have been hard pressed to do any precision shooting with the original. But as a novelty? And a gun used in the Jerry Ahern survival books series? Interesting...the original I mean.

Any baton training classes in Chattanooga
Jamie Jackson replied to Junkstack's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
An impact tool is, imho, an excellent adjunct tool for EDC, even if you do carry a handgun. Not every problem is a "shooting" problem. Knife Rights was very instrumental in the legislative work regarding the blade issues here in TN. Great organization and much appreciated. I believe that Georgia was able to remove their restrictions on carrying impact tools and I know that Florida's permit system is a "Weapons" permit system, but I'm not certain as to the place impact tools occupy in it. Anyone have any suggestions as to who would be the most likely legislator to contact to get the ball rolling on removing theses restrictions? The knife issue demonstrated that the process is slow, but gives a decent template for change. We might as well get started on this. -
It reminds me of the COP. A .357 derringer type pistol with, IIRC a rotating striker device. Found one for sale actually: http://www.armslist.com/posts/3152695/missouri-handguns-for-sale--cop-357-magnum-4-barrel-derringer- But no mootw, I've not heard of this company.

Any baton training classes in Chattanooga
Jamie Jackson replied to Junkstack's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
LOL. I hear ya. :pleased: My friend, I drove 240 miles round trip every Monday night to train for 4 hours and did that for 2 years. It was worth it to me to train with that particular group...invaluable to me... ymmv Most of the instructors and or schools are willing to travel to a hosted class with as few as 10 attendees. Maybe that'll be an option for you. Good luck with your endeavor Sir. -

Junkstack I no longer have contact info for the gentleman that conducted our class. But a Google search under "baton, impact weapon training Tennessee" yielded several options open to civilians. You may have to drive a bit, or you may be able to host a training class, but the training is available. You just gotta make it happen if you want it. :2cents: -

I not certain how it is in Chattanooga, but I contacted an instructor in Knoxville that trains various Security contractors (such as for Hospitals, etc) and set up a group training session. That was 7 years ago fwiw... but I would think you'd be able to locate someone without great difficulty. Good move btw. -

I can be there by 0800 if that'll be of any help....certainly earlier if need be. Heck...I'll be up anyway. I will bring my 3 poppers and 2 steel plates, my 2 tac man targets..and a stapler. Do you need any pre-cut 2x4's? I believe Brad and Neil will be bringing some portable shade as well. I know it's already been mentioned...but bring a folding chair folks...you'll be glad you did by day's end. -

I am not advocating the technique or anything, but it's called a Center Axis Relock . Paul Castle is the guy behind it IIRC and it's been around for a bit now. I was first exposed to it in or around 2005... I know very little about it other than that. Just not anything I looked much into. -
In the video he's using caps and/or strike anywhere matches for his priming compound.and using acetone and/or water to form it...very tedious and slow process...buy interesting info nonetheless. I too would like to see a mold that drops several bullets of the same weight at a time. His mold drops 2 different weight bullets.IIRC 38 gr and 25 gr. I wonder how powder coating .22 cal rimfire bullets would work for increased velocities? I guess a lot would depend on barrel size and whether or not you have a sizing mold... Oh yeah...he's using blackpower in the vid but insinuated smokeless powders would work.

While it's not something I plan on delving into at the moment, it is pretty darn interesting. The videos in particular. Pretty darn clever actually. Thanks 10-Ring. :hat:

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books

For those that haven't read Bracken's "Enemies Trilogy" they are free on kindle through Wednesday. http://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2014/07/14/pass-the-word-2/ These book are eerily on target... -
Dolomite; That is some of the most sane, lucid, and comm sense statements I have seen, heard, or read in some time. Thank you. I honestly believe what you wrote reflects the intent of our founding fathers. Social Engineering has bastardized that intent imho. Each State could go a long way towards getting us back to where we belong through exercise of the 10th amendment and nullification... if the States weren't so pitifully addicted to our tax dollars that flow out of Washington that is.

Nobody is beating up on you Rghyland. And my opinion is just that, my opinion. We all face, or will face, situations such as you describe. It's just a fact of life that there are asshat's out there, and serious predators as well. I have lawfully carried for about 25 years now. I had to learn long ago to keep my ego in check and to not be goaded into something I may have previously considered in my testosterone filled youth. I am not saying that's you Sir, I am talking about me...but it may be food for thought. Walk away from an insult or an idiot....that's usually a combined thing anyway. But train to develop the appropriate mindset and skills necessary to protect those entrusted to your care, as well as yourself. I can't recommend quality professional training enough. I know it was a paradigm shift for me those many years ago...and I am still learning. But mostly I learned that I didn't know what I didn't know. You stated you are "thinking"...That's the first step good Sir. :pleased:

You have knowledge that a weapon may well be interjected into an encounter even if the meathead trying to start some crap doesn't...you will be held to account for this legally, morally, and ethically. And you will know when you are in fear for your life. No one can tell you that. Please consider that afterwards, you, and possibly your attorney, must be able to articulate and/or demonstrate that these states existed: Ability - Opportunity - Jeopardy... on the part of the attacker. Avoidance, Deterrence & De-escalation should be a priority for all of us. Let them yell. If you must use lethal force, then you must. But "mutual combat" ? Not a good idea imho... Some quality firearms training from a reputable instructor might well prove beneficial, definitely educational. :2cents:

"Wish You Were Here" is probably my favorite album by Pink Floyd...although "Dark Side of the Moon" is a close second. I saw them during the "Animals" tour at the Empire Pool, Wembly in 1977. They played a couple of songs from "Wish" and their encore was "Us and Them" iirc. Pretty darn awesome concert for a (then) young fella. :pleased: I'll certainly give any of their works a listen to... And Yes No_One...like me, they are in fact still alive LOL
