  1. I'm keeping my fingers crossed Ed. Caleb seems to honestly be trying hard to make improvements, or so it appears. I've either carried a RDS Glock 17 or 19 daily for a few years now. For me it's an advantage at distance especially. I ran XS Big Dot sites on my Glocks for several years and using the intended "Lollipop" viewing they were designed for, they were pretty decent for me at that time. I recently, as in September of this year, broke the slide on my G19 again (had a Holosun 509t on it). I carry AIWB with my shirt covering my gun and other than the occasional lint the lens stayed pretty clear and clean. Again, for me. As that 19 had a high round count, and it was the 2nd time this happened (1st time 2015), after sending it back to Glock and long talks with them, I purchased a new slide and barrel. Glock put the Ameriglo Suppressor height sights on the new slide for me, and Damn! I actually like running the 19 with them My apologies for the drift. I've been shooting my LCR's and K-Frames at least once a week, usually twice the past few months and think I would really appreciate carrying one of the RDS equipped 856 Toro's. But I want to actually handle and shoot one first. But I think I'll take my Taurus 85 to the range with me tomorrow... Being on a pretty much fixed income tends to make one "frugal". LOL Learned that Needs trump Wants. Here's that break on the 19. Apparently that weakness in Glocks has been remedied as they evolved through Gen 4 to Gen 5. Mine was/is a 1997 Gen 3.
  2. Just an FYI: As I mentioned earlier in this thread, I primarily shoot 9mm and .38 spl. and increasingly .32 H&R Mag (and .32 S&W). I don't shoot a lot of 5.56 these days. I crunched a few numbers this morning as I prepare to go downstairs and load up some more .38 spl for tomorrow. These numbers are based on current pricing of bullets, primers, and powder. My components are from way before current pricing, but I take into account I'll have to replace them eventually. Currently: For .38 special mid-range target load: (750 fps on my chrono from a K-Frame) Hoosier 158 gr Hi-Tek coated 158 gr .38 spl = $104.00/1000 shipped Winchester 231 powder (7000 grs/pound) 1 pound = $35.00 (obviously there's usually tax. If you order it then HazMat and Shipping. Bulk or combined costs with a friend help mitigate the cost). It's sometimes challenging these days. Primers: Seeing Small Pistol Primers somewhere around $75.00/1000. Again, it depends on whether or not you purchase local or have to endure HazMat, shipping and taxes. This particular load would cost me: $0.198/rd, so right at 20 cents a round. Ammoseek shows me either stuff I've never heard of, or remanufactured at $0.38/rd (plus Tax and Shipping usually...). Crunching the numbers for 9mm, even assuming you are paying $50.00/lb for powder. 9mm still runs around $0.20/rd. (I have never paid $50.00/lb for powder, but this world is getting crazy...). But most importantly I tailor my handloads to my wants, needs, and any idiosyncrasies of a particular gun. Please take into account I already own, and have owned all of my reloading equipment for a very long time. $0.22/rd 9mm or less allows me to use my already owned powder and primers for much more costly rounds like .38 spl, .357 mag, and the aforementioned .32 family. (BTW there were some decent deals this past Black Friday on 9mm range fodder). I enjoy handloading. It therapeutic for me! Allows me to get into my "Zen-State" man-cave focus. Then I get to go shoot it. How can things get any better? Just some thoughts. Gonna go handload some. HAVE A GOOD DAY FOLKS.
  3. My experiences in the past mimic those already shared, kinda hit or miss. I still have a model 85 from 1987 that's has really nice bluing and a good DA trigger. I've only owned 1-2 others. I'm hopeful for Taurus going forward because I think I would like an 856 Toro RDS capable revolver. But definitely as a holster carried sidearm. Patiently waiting to see how those do over a bit of time. Taurus hired Caleb Giddings as their General Marketing Manager a short while back and Caleb is a shooter and has been very responsive and accessible to customers on other forums (Pistol-Forums). I've read good things from 856 owners the past several months as well. Glad to read you had a decent experience with your @JustEd.
  4. Trade options increased in you favor. I'd really like some Alliant 2400. What little is left in my 2400 container is stamped "Hercules 2400". Help a brother out please.
  5. Not to mention loading for .38 spl, .357 and .32. I still run 9mm on my 550, but I've been shooting a decent amount of .38 lately and couldn't even begin to afford it if I didn't handload. Think I'll load some wadcutters now. I enjoy reloading too.
  6. Memories that last a lifetime @deerslayer. They are a blessing, but darn they grow up quick. Thanks for sharing.
  7. As messy as this old world can be there's still so much to be Thankful for, just gotta look around for it sometimes. Wishing a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving to all!
  8. Thank you my friend. All 3 pictured are $400.00 or less guns purchased within the past 4 or so years. Well seasoned but obviously well cared for by their previous owners. ( Disclaimer: I mis-typed, mis-thought. Those 2 revolvers are both S&W Model 10's...I was thinking I needed to grab my 15 as I headed, out so I guess that's why I typed that ) (I'll edit the above pic post...) I'm fortunate to have hoarded back a few Tyler T-grips (4" Model 10) over the years and have also been using BK Grip Adapters (2" Model 10) which serve that role well. My budget is tight, Isn't it for us all these days? But there are wheel gun bargains out there if we're patient. So these are a few of the many things I'm Thankful for today and every day.
  9. While not necessarily a gun I seek out each range trip, it's one I pocket carry an LCR .38 spl each and every day, so it makes every range trip with me and I shoot it pretty much weekly. My LCR in .38 spl that I was fortunate to purchase from a member here a few years ago. (Range=ORSA) My Model 10 snub and Model 15 are frequent companions. Especially the past few months. The 10 snub is in my AIWB holster as I type this and prepare to head to the range. (ETA: The below revolvers are both S&W Model 10's. 4" and a 2"...I just told myself to grab the 15 before I left for the range...)
  10. What a great group of people! Really glad Ms. Brandi was there to wrangle you all! Extremely happy for you guys and very proud of you Randy. Thank you for sharing this. I live vicariously through your adventures
  11. Thanks @TripleGGG! One of my favorite scenes from Good Fellas... actually I have several favorite scenes from Good Fellas. That doesn't speak well of me does it? But Thanks!
  12. Just stumbled across your edit/update in your OP @Fencersms. Glad they are taking care of you and best of luck with the remaining concerns.
  13. Ha! @aknifemaker posted what I read this morning as I was typing my reply. Thank you.
  14. @Fencersms Thank you for the additional info and suggestions. As I mentioned, I primarily shoot handloads and as a general rule Hate Norma 9mm brass related to it's incredibly small primer flash hole. But I recently purchased 500 rounds with a 2023 lot# and consider it much akin to Blazer aluminum as far as the brass goes. I just toss that brass. The price was too good to pass on and figured it'd save my primers for loading my .38's & .32's. Sorry to thread drift. As @Garufa mentioned it could be an overcharged round. I've seen it with hot loaded 9mm in Glocks. I don't know how well supported the chamber is on the Hellcat. Hope you get this mystery solved. I did see a couple of posts on various forums about a Norma 9mm recall but all of those lot numbers were from 2022 if I'm reading that correctly. Best I can tell mine is 2023 mint. I'll shoot them an email nonetheless and see what shakes. I'm technologically challenged but think I have a pic of my lot number attached. Keep us posted.
  15. Thanks for the info and photos @Fencersms. I too am glad you weren't injured. I agree that this looks like an out of battery firing. I've experienced it before and it was probably in a Glock as that's been the predominate autoloader I've shot since the late '90's. But I didn't have the extent of damage you experienced...just soot. But out of battery firing nonetheless. I was just shooting some 124 gr 9mm Norma last week (got a great price on it) and noted it was "peppy" to my shooting buddies. Much the same feel as NATO spec 124, which we actually shot side by side with it. I planned to chrono that Norma this coming weekend. Do you have the lot# for this ammo? I'm kind of gimped up right now, stairs are challenging with a cane, but I'll look at my lot numbers in the morning when I head back downstairs.
  16. Thank you Greg. I'm happy to have them. On the shooting... the 10 yards should be repeatable as I normally practice 5-15 yards. But 25 yds? I put that down to well zeroed sights and a good DA trigger. I can't shoot SA nor stage a DA trigger worth a darn. And I can't see for crap...need trifocals <sigh>, so I just aim at 6 o'clock on the black, roll 3 shots and run the target back to see if I hit the paper LOL. It's sad when a fella needs a spotting scope for the indoor range. On the grip adapters. My shooting buddy reminded me we picked up some Tyler "clones essentially" for a place called Robertson's Trading Post, near Jackson, TN (iirc) from an E-Bay auction back in March. Jac did the purchase so I don't know the details. but they work great and look like the silver colored Tyler's. I hope someone picks up and moves forward with Tyler's, but I guess time will tell.
  17. God Bless Uncle Sam's Misguided Children! Some of the best people I have ever known. Happy (belated) Birthday Marines!
  18. Happy Veterans Day to all who have served and this includes their families because they are/were a part of it as well. A Belated Happy 248th Birthday to Uncle Sam's Misguided Children (10/10/23)! Crayons for all!! From an Old Corpsman
  19. Thank you all for the kind words. @Sleep profit I've been a fan of Tyler's a long time. They've been either challenging to find or pretty expensive to purchase for quite a while now. iirc Melvin Tyler passed a number of years ago, other family, possibly people outside the family, took over and their website lists as "Tomahawk Grips" now, but still show up on Google under Tyler. Perhaps someone knows the story better than I do and can offer their input. I only had a few Tyler K/N frame size stuck back, but several BK grip adapters in my parts drawer. I have a nostalgic leaning to the Tyler's of course, but the BK are very well made and I'm quite happy with them. That said, Tomahawk/Tyler have a statement on their website from 8/17/23 that they have a website that will accept credit cards "coming soon". It's snail mail, checks, and money orders and wait....wait...wait...right now. Time will tell. BK: (Fast shipping every time I've ordered...Paypal iirc) https://bkgrips.com/store/ @Grayfox54 I read on the Big Blue and yes! They can be a critical bunch over there LOL Thankfully there's some knowledgeable and helpful folks there too. Fingers crossed for the "New" S&W plant. They seem to be off to a good start.
  20. Thank you. Yes sir, BK's on the 15, but Tyler's on the 67. She deserved them.
  21. That's awesome @Tom B. This is only my second interaction with Smith's customer service , the first being around 1988 for a called upgrade/preventative maintenance on my 686 done at Clark's. Needless to say I am impressed.
  22. I am doubly Blessed my friend. My father passed in Sept. 2006 and I never even knew this revolver existed until the visit from my sister. And yeah, you may have one or two Smith's. Discerning tastes.
  23. Thank you @FUJIMO. I am very fortunate. @A.J. Holst I was totally surprised by that. I completely expected to have to pay. Actually the lady I first talked with said the repair center would notify me of the charge, if any. Hopefully this move and influx of new employees will continue to positively effect all aspects of the company.
  24. First, a little back-story. My estranged sister came for a visit on Oct. 7th. Hadn’t seen her in over 10 years. Life and such happens. She brought me a revolver our father gave her in 1987 when she first moved to Atlanta. It’s a S&W model 67-1, made in 1978. Great pairing for my Model 15!! Awesome! (Pics below) (The model 15 was a $400.00 GB purchase, $450.00 after shipping and such)) I took it apart and cleaned and oiled the internals. It was actually quite clean, just dry, as it had been wrapped in a towel and stored in a drawer all those years. I don’t know if she’s ever fired it and doubt my father did very much as even though he carried a gun, he wasn’t generally a shooter. My sister is not a shooter, so talisman effect... Great double DA action trigger (I rarely shoot SA)! The sights were well regulated to 158 gr .38 spls. It easily set off CCI, Winchester, Federal, and SA primers. J On my 2nd, maybe 3rd range trip the following week and approximately 200 rds through it I emptied the cylinder and closed it up. My shooting bud (an RSO at the indoor range) wanted to see it. I opened the cylinder, showed empty, closed the cylinder and the hammer & trigger were locked up tight. Trigger frozen and hammer could not be pulled back. Again cylinder opened easily. WTF? I took it apart when I got home. Nothing would budge as far as the hammer/trigger goes. The rebound slide was back slightly and it too wouldn’t budge. Darn!! As I didn’t want to ruin it (I can change out springs and parts but I am not a revolver-smith…I know my limitations.) I called S&W Customer Service. A very nice and helpful lady in Maryville answered my call. It’s fantastic being able to talk with someone local and that loves their job. She promptly emailed me a shipping label to return the 67 to the Mother ship in MA. All revolver repairs are still being done in MA for the time being, but hopefully in Maryville within a couple of years. This was Oct. 13th…yep, Friday the 13th! So off I went to FedEx. Painless and simple process. Positive interaction. So far so good… A couple of days later I received an email from S&W with the Repair number saying they’d be in touch. I fully expected to wait several weeks as we all read about on the interwebs. But I received email notification for FedEx Monday the 30th that a shipping label had been created from the Mother ship. I phoned them (S&W) Tuesday morning. Again very friendly and helpful gentleman in Maryville. He looked up the repair number and told me that my 67 had been sent over to the Performance Center and they replaced the broken hammer nose bushing and that there would be no charge and they were happy to do it. My model 67 was delivered to my home, signature required of course, by FedEx Thursday afternoon. So less than 3 weeks and no out of pocket expense. I am very impressed with S&W and very happy to have them in TN. Looking forward to S&W completing the move of the next couple of years. Excellent customer service experience all the way around. Now, time to get this 67 back to the range! S&W Model 15 and model 67 10 yards 25 yards
  25. Welcome back. Life has a way of introducing challenges. Hope things just get better for you.
