  1. Just an update;   I loaded up 8 different loads of H335 ranging from 21.8 grs to 25.0 grs. Bullets were Extreme 55 gr fmj. Trimmed and prepped range brass. Primers were Tula Small Rifle KVB 223. OAL 2.20"   Temp was 37 degrees and very overcast at ORSA today.   Rifle: 1995 version Bushy...twist rate is 1:9...16" barrel...old Vortex flash hider.   Velocity ranged from an average of 2487 (21.8) up to 2866 (25.0).   All rounds functioned without issue and no signs of pressure were noted.   I was only shooting at 50 yards and not shooting for accuracy. Some rounds were off sandbags and some loosely "propped" by my elbows. All rounds clustered at point of aim...but the surprise was a 1" or less cluster with the 25.0 gr rounds. This group was one of my elbow propped groups, so I am looking forward to seeing what this load actually does when tested for accuracy at 100 and 200 yards.   I just wanted to share the info in case it can be of use to anyone. Any suggestions and/or thoughts are welcome.
  2. hipower;   Good points on Secession. I did enjoy it...but I am apparently a "Joe Nobody Junkie" LOL...but I do feel it was one of his weaker works.   I just finished book two of the Olympus Device series last night. Much more of a syfy bent, and also not as strong as the Bishop works...but at least I got my "fix"!   I then started Weber's "Last Stand:Warlords". The series is pretty good. I like that it has a local setting (Oneida,TN).   I do have "The Salt War" by Joe Nobody waiting on my nightstand for my next read.     The "Black Tide Rising" series looks good and the reviews on Amazon are pretty positive as well. fwiw I usually find the Amazon reviews pretty helpful...those folks can be brutally honest, which I appreciate.     The "Paladin Series" looks interesting as well... This quote from one of the reviews makes me want to read it. LOL "Not only is the book not "politically correct", but it is an over-the-top right wing fairy tale."   The same reviewer...obviously with a very liberal bent, says "The book is also relentless about showing the bad side of Islam: the villains in all three stories are Muslim terrorists. There is not a single sympathetic portrayal of a Muslim in any of the stories." Well I wonder why? :stunned: iirc the world is kinda having a few problems with Muslim terrorists these day...   I added them to my list as well. Thanks hipower !  :pleased:
  3. You mean besides porcelain Glocks? and Glocks being undetectable on xrays? and that women can only handle .22 or .25 caliber guns? or that a "snub nosed revolver" is the perfect house gun...despite a 12 lb trigger pull? or that "cocking" a gun will "prove" you are serious?   Whatever do you mean? :surrender:
  4. PM coming at you.
  5.   Sorry...just click the link above.   It's Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association  Membership is $120.00/year for family. They host shooting competitions each weekend. They have a handgun "plinking" range (bring your own targets), a Rifle practice range is being built. A 200 yards rifle range. a 1000 yard rifle range. Trap/skeet range and an indoor range.   A sponsor is required...easy... and orientation is necessary to gain access via a card.   I know little about Windrock but will remedy that within the next couple of weeks.
  6. Not trying to take away from Tac's business. guys, but there are some outdoor ranges in your AO as well.   Oak Ridge Sportsman:   http://orsaonline.org/   and   Windrock Shooting Range in Oliver Springs: http://www.windrockshootingrange.com/home.html   I've ventured out to Windrock yet, but plan to do so soon.   Just wanted you to know there are options. Several of us here are ORSA members as well.
  7. Glad to have you onboard. Welcome. :hat:     Guns, "furry" family members, and a love of our God Given Constitutionally protected Rights...Win-Win!  Gotta love TGO!
  8.     True OS. at least I hope so...   But I honestly believe that in a couple of years some will look back at the ready availability and  affordability of gear like this  and go "If only...".   It's a buyers market at the moment, but we all know only too well how fast that can change. :2cents:
  9. There are only 18 bundles of the 10 packs left as I type this. There were 260 when I ordered mine. Just an FYI if you want or need some at a good price.
  10. Good points hipower.   I have an irrational fear of running out of things I like to read. I have the majority of SWAT magazine published since around 1989...I think my wife is on to my hoarding tendencies but she hasn't ratted me out to the reality TV shows...yet. :ugh: But I will pull some of them out periodically and reminisce over the advertisements and purchases I should have made. LOL   I still haven't made a move towards an e-reader yet...I just like the feel of a book in my hands. Maybe one day. Time will tell.
  11. Mark, my wife says we suffer from bibliophlism...as usual, she's right...   I'm Prag and I'm a bibliophile... Perhaps we need to form a support group of "Readaholics Anonymous" and meet at local ranges on a rotational basis? :pleased:   I too re-read this entire thread periodically...I also re-read some of my older books, like Cooper's works, Applegate, Sykes, etc.   Fortunately I'm dyslexic...so it takes me some time to finish a book LOL   I'm just finishing The Olympus Device book 2 and have a couple of books on the bedside table to read next...but it's a challenge to find quality reading material sometimes....or maybe it's too easy and I'm spoiled...   yep...we need a shooting & support group...
  12. Greetings and Welcome to TGO.
  13. Greetings DrNick. Welcome aboard.
  14. I've had success with the below for handgun and rifle....but you have to move fast and maintain options...   http://www.midsouthshooterssupply.com/   http://powdervalleyinc.com/   https://www.grafs.com/retail/index/index   https://www.wideners.com/     You may have better luck contacting Sam or Mr. David:   http://www.thegunshowgirl.com/   https://www.facebook.com/MagnumMaterials     Good Luck. :pleased:
  15. Nice looking gear. I checked their website and Facebook.   Apparently they are located here in Knoxville. I assume they don't have a storefront, but work out of their home/shop...is that correct?   I would like to see some of their gear up close. Guess we need to invite them out to some local matches. :pleased:
  16. I like your gear UncleJak and don't think it's unrealistic at all.   A quality belt combined with quality holsters and appropriate clothing (not skin tight) and it's not a burden.   I only carry 2 handguns with reloads, one fixed blade, 2 folders, a flat sap, 2 flashlights and a BOK these days but find it quite a comfort.
  17. I picked up a few 10 packs of these from SGAmmo. They run $79.50/10 pak. With shipping they are about $9.00 each.   I prefer ribbed steel AK mags myself and I am more than impressed with these. While I certainly like my Circle 10....which are simply overpriced these days, and I've had good luck with Tapco for casual range use, it's just hard to beat Eastern European AK mags at this price...Best price I've seen for several years in fact.     Just thought you folks might be in the market.     http://www.sgammo.com/product/surplus/10-pack-30-round-ak-47-mag-used-condition-varies-good-excellent-eastern-european-mil
  18.     Well...BATFE may not have a letter on that....but I bet my wife would! :ugh:
  19. Yeah Brother. They got a definite workout. :pleased:   That's actually not bad for that price point and I think it was more like 12K total...not bad at all.
  20.   What are you doing typing brother? We need more boolits!           Those original handles had to have made it through at least 10K rounds of hard work Brasil (I've actually lost count...)  ...and I do appreciate it my friend. :pleased:
  21. LOL. My physical manual is a Hornady from 1987.   I went to the Hodgdon data online for Min & Max data:  https://www.hodgdon.com/basic-manual-inquiry.html   That's where I looked up the 7.62x39 btw.   I'm really just seeking personal preference loads or an quirks folks may have encountered. It's my first go with this particular powder. I've used IMR 3031 (excellent results but a PIA as it's extruded), AA 2230, and Win 748...I've had AA 2230 on backorder for more than a friggin' year now...such is the current nature of the component situation.   But I have no doubt TGOer's have experience with H335...good, bad, and indifferent. But I appreciate learning what I can from the members here.   And Yes, I know, I should purchase a newer physical manual... :ugh:
  22. Damn good points Gordon.   We are at times our own worst enemies. I believe we have "gun owners" and members of the "Gun Culture" (which would be us..."Gun Culture" in the John Ross sense of the phrase). It is unfortunately rampant, not only on the interweb, but even at local ranges...it is disheartening.   I have followed this thread closely and appreciate the solid discussion and exchanges of points of view. I too picked up an SB 47 and AK pistol and assembled for my "Truck gun". It's an excellent setup.   It's frustrating to see so many, like the vid above, that profess to be a member of that "Culture", doing more to harm our cause than help it.   I personally had not considered writing a favorable letter to BATFE, but certainly see merit in your thoughts.   I have hopes that the NFA Freedom Alliance will have a positive impact in this arena. I hope...
  23. Powder has been a challenge to come by! Understatement I know...   I have finally located some H 335. I did search here and found some interesting info on heavier weight bullets.   I will be loading 55 gr bullets and will be chronographing my work. My 1995 version Bushy twist rate is 1:9, 16" barrel.   Do any of you guys have any "pet loads"?     An aside...during my search here on TGO I also found reference to using H335 for 7.62x39. I had never considered this powder for the x39. But low and behold it's listed in the Hogdon Load Data Center.   Have you guys tried any H 335 for 7.62x39? ...125 gr bullets are what I have on hand.     I unfortunately (or fortunately I guess since I do have a job  ) work most weekends, so I haven't yet had the opportunity to meet Mr.David at the local gun shows to be able to pick up components from him...One day...       Appreciate your thoughts in advance folks. :hat:
  24. AA#2 is another option for .38. A little goes a long way for .38   But Unique-Bullseye-and W231 are hard to beat.   I've probably burned more Unique than any other powder. Great stuff for many different handgun rounds.
  25. Welcome aboard and a soon to be in TN welcome as well.   I'm an RN and several of my shooting buds work EMS & Fire.   I'm in East TN but you'll find great folks all over this state.
