Interesting video Keyless.   It looks like my particular breakage at the 21 second mark, and the vid should also encourage Glock owners to inspect, closely, the various "break points". In my case it will require a magnifying glass though for some of them. :pleased:   It's also good to know the majority of the Glocks shown had remarkably high round counts...but I didn't even come close to 200,000...but I had hoped for at least 100,000 rounds out of her.

Excellent point TNWNGR!   I totally agree that these thing do have a "use life"...shoot them long enough and hard enough and they will certainly wear out.   I am curious to see how many more round my particular 19 will go once I get the new slide. I have 1000 rounds setting and waiting for it to arrive "back home". :pleased:   While I have a 17 and 26 similarly grip modified, I will be purchasing another Gen 3 19 as soon as I find one at a reasonable (to me) price. Hard lesson learned, especially when I know better...

I ran thousands of rounds of fmj handloads through a G 21 I had...and not a few LRN rounds as well. Of course I blew it up with a double charged load of W 231...but that's another story... :cool: Other than the "explosive" charge load I usually ran them at 800 + fps (in 45 acp) without issues my friend.

I got off the phone with Russell at Glock and he informed me they will be replacing the slide, at no charge, and it should arrive to me within the next 2 weeks. Great customer service folks! :up:   Russell told me that they have only seen this type of failure with Glocks that have been dropped therefore bending that particular area...and that there obviously was no indication of that ever happening to my gun.   I appreciate the excellent customer service from Glock.   So...could I have noticed there was a problem by/when cleaning and inspecting my gun prior to this? I doubt it. But I'll be looking more carefully at all of my guns and their stress areas when doing cleaning and PM on 'em.   I'll be glad to have my 19 back in my holster. :pleased:

The history of the development of the famous Browning designed 1911 is fascinating...from the need spurred by the Moro Insurrection and trials for a new service pistol and the multiple iterations of what we now recognized as the 1911 with it's thumb safety.   Here's an interesting link and it has further links to the 1910 no thumb safety model. http://www.cylinder-slide.com/1910hammerless.shtml   While I personally think the grip safety on a 1911 is an abomination and shouldn't exist...there are quite a few documented instances of people not being able to engage the grip safety when injured, and therefore not having a weapon they can operate at the worst possible time, I still like the idea on a thumb safety on a 1911...because "things happen". :cool:   But apparently Browning didn't initially feel the safeties were necessary at all.     I carry a Glock and have for many years and feel completely comfortable with not having a manual safety...but would not carry a striker fired pistol without a properly designed holster. :2cents:

Thanks for veering back on track folks. I simply wanted to caution folks to periodically check their gear...sometimes we take things for granted.   Caster... I have carried this particular handgun daily for a number of years. While it sees hard use from time to time it is well protected in an appendix IWB holster, currently the Archangel (+1 ehull). Yep...it's hit the deck in training...but to my knowledge, not muzzle first...that particular ring that broke is normally slightly recessed to flush on a Glock...but all of that was, nor isn't the point I was going after Good Sir.   As I stated earlier, I think there may have been a metallurgic flaw...possibly...but even that is inconsequential.   I primarily wanted to caution folks to check their self defense gear and not assume because it is brand "X" it is invincible. Murphy lives with each and everyone of us.        edit for clarification...

Things break Lowpower. I've seen slides come off the backend of 1911's...Stuff happens brother. :pleased:   But I sure would hate to see this thread devolve into a Glock vs 1911 thing. We all make our choices, and live by those decisions. Embrace your 1911 love my friend. Haha TNWNGR,   It's not the first Glock I've had go TU on me.   I blew up a Glock 21 with a double charged handload years back and Glock replaced it. Yes, they do have excellent customer service.   My Glocks are tools, and I treat them that way. I don't actually abuse them, but they do get worked hard and they don't get babied.   There are many excellent handguns being made. I still own a Colt and a few S&W's. But I am an admitted "Glock Guy" as they've demonstrated a great value for the money since I purchased my first Glock in '92.

    Yeah..I've seen them dropped and bend at that point when disassembled as well. Now this one has hit the deck many times in training, but always while it was fully assembled.     OK...I gotta do a search on this "meal" thing fellas. :ugh:

    LOL. the "RSA" in my OP is "Recoil Spring Assembly"...sorry for being "murky"...I change it frequently and have several new ones waiting in my parts kit. :pleased:   Thank you. I hope Glock get's it together for me as well.

I hope so peeJ.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.   I fired around 150-200 rounds that session musicman...ran like a top.   I've not seen this particular issue with a Glock before. My guess is that there was a metallurgic defect in that portion of the slide. Realistically 30K isn't that much ammo to run through a handgun. (I honestly don't know the exact round count...I stopped tracking it around 30K and that was a few...several...years back).

My buddy Brad said " Everything mechanical breaks eventually"...Yep. he's right. :cool: I was at the range doing some practice drills last Sunday. Completely uneventful range session. When I got home I actually decided to clean my Glock 19. Now that's not something I do after each range session.(I normally just run a bore snake through it) Yes, I can be abusive to my Glock. But having better than 30K of rounds through it, I've come to trust that little sucker. I'll treat her better in the future. Here's a few pics of what I found... Well Heck! So now I know for certain that a Glock can be broken...you just have to shoot it enough! Actually I thought it would take more rounds than that... fwiw I do change my RSA every 1500-2000 rounds and keep my Glocks appropriately lubed. I contacted Anthony at the Glock service department in Smyrna and he told me to mail it to them. So I did...it should arrive by Friday. We'll see what happens. As an aside. I carry AIWB in a Dale Fricke Archangel holster. It accommodates my G 17 and G 26...so I'm GTG until my 19 comes home. tercel;   I've been handloading 9mm (and of course other calibers) for a long time now. I do have Lone Wolf barrels for my 17 & 19, but only purchased and used them when I was loading lead 147 gr bullets.   We now cast and PC and I loaded approximately 14,000 rounds of 9mm in 2014. No issues whatsoever with the brass out of factory barrels. And we use a lot of range pickup brass...   No should be GTG with your plan.   fwiw the Lone Wolf barrels have significantly closer tolerances than OEM Glock barrels and can be really finicky about what they feed...you really have to tailor the round to the barrel. I use a "U" die, or undersize die, when loading for my LW barrels, and you have to make sure the OAL works for the bullet you are using in LW barrels...it took me some "tweaking around" to come up with a reliable combo for my 147 lead bullets and the LW barrels.   From my experience the LW barrels are also very particular about which Self defense rounds they will feed as well...mine will not feed 147 gr factory rounds like Golden Saber. YMMV.
