  1. I'm glad you enjoyed them my friend. Rough aftershock huh? :ugh:  It happens sometimes LOL.   I think you are right on the dry hot spell affecting your carrots that way. I've had the best luck regarding carrots with a fall planting. They really do well with cooler weather....and if I leave them alone...
  2. The primer pockets are tight with Tula primers as well. I've reloaded them...but they are not my preference in brass. I've found that a quick twist with a deburring tool allows even the Tula primers to seat easily though.
  3.     It obviously found your yard a nice place to be. :pleased: We get a good bit of 'em in our yard each summer. We have chipmunks scurrying about and they seem to find them quite tasty...   Great photo btw.       My wife doesn't care for snakes one bit spiff. We are both from SW MS and way too many poisonous snakes back there for her to forget. So they have to leave our property...one way or another...     I have killed a total of 4 snakes in our house in the 9 years we've lived here. We live in a suburban neighborhood in West Knoxville, not out in the country. 2 were in a crawlspace, one in the basement bedroom, and one upstairs...I still haven't figured out the upstairs one yet...sneaky devils they are.
  4. I want to know how many times you had to sit it up on the fence to make it pose like that! And why?! I'm impressed!  Kinda... :ugh:
  5.     Excellent advice!   I've loaded and ran some 115 gr 9mm fmj out of an old AMT .380 Backup (late 1980's). I could see no benefit and only potential negatives. I too purchased some 95 gr fmj bullets and used them for both .380 and 9mm with great results, for practice rounds anyway.   :2cents:
  6.   Yes Sir. He certainly is.
  7.     LOL. It's almost too easy my friend.   I just cut the stem ends off, remove the seeds and rinse them. Then I stuff them 1/2 full of shredded cheddar cheese and then finish filling with cream cheese. I then wrap them with strips of bacon and secure the bacon using bamboo skewers...I line up 3 per skewer... I place the bacon wrapped and skewered jalapeno's, standing upright (cream cheese end up), in a baking pan to catch the dripping. I cover loosely with aluminum foil and bake for about 1 hour at 325 degrees... like I said...easy.   Pretty darn tasty if I do say so myself. :pleased:     But you may want to take an extra cholesterol med just in case.
  8.     LOL. That does happen sometimes. It bites...but happens.   We've got tomatoes coming out our ears! Our cukes struggled...but we managed to put up 28 quarts of kosher dill pickles. We have our second planting of bush beans coming along nicely. And I saw the first blooms on our okra this morning.   Our banana peppers have been producing nicely for about 3-4 weeks now. I've had one good picking from our jumbo jalapeno pepper plants (have 2 of 'em)...but enough to enjoy some cheese stuffed bacon wrapped jalapenos. :pleased:   Our bell pepper plant is just starting to produce...I thought it was an jalapeno as well...since that is what it was labeled...   We grow in raised beds fwiw and the recent rains have really helped the plants along. They grow much better with rain water versus me watering them with the hose during that long hot, dry spell we had.

    Xs sights

I've run them on 3 different Glocks (26-19-17). I find them excellent defensive use sights. Once you acclimate to them 50 yard plates isn't that difficult. XS instructions sheet: That said I did change the sight on my daily carry G 19 to Trijicon HD's. They, to me anyway, provide the speed and ease of the XS Big Dot with ability to use a more traditional notch & post for more refined accuracy. I went with the orange front on mine and love 'em. They are very fast and easy to use. I will definitely be putting a set on my Shield. Link: http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/sights/sight-sets/hd-tritium-night-sight-sets-for-glock--prod42614.aspx ETA: Oh Yeah, the HD's have a flat front to the rear sight that make them especially useful for running one hand manipulations. That was one of the reasons for my initial decision to try them.
  10.   Darn Gordon, Thank you! Of course I'll cover the shipping Good Sir.  PM coming to you.
  11. Good info and suggestions Gordon. Thank you Sir.   I will definitely slug my barrels prior to going down this road. I have been able to achieve some phenomenal accuracy with an old Norinco AK and handloads in the past...1991 or '92 iirc...I'll have to check my notes later. But point being is that AK ammo being mass produced is so undersized in many cases it's a wonder AK's are as accurate (with factory ammo) as they are.   "Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Mold C312-155-2R". Roger that.   I have never used gas checks, but will do on this project and hope it will turn into an unnecessary step. Time will tell.   I recall your info on pulling and using steel cases and I have that option in my mind. 7.62x39 brass is a challenge to find. Powder Valley has it for about $.34/piece...it's about the same on GunBroker...boxer primed of course.   It seems like there was a gut on Cast Boolits at one time selling once fired range brass and he carried 7.62x39. I kick myself in the butt for not ordering some from him, but iirc the brass was aboy $.25 each when he was listing it a couple of years ago. If I run across an affordable source I'll PM you. I'm looking...
  12. We've been using (for 9mm) a .38 caliber mold and resizing to .357 after powder coating and have had great success with no pressure issues and definitely no leading concerns. Several of our Glock barrels slugged out at .356 fwiw. I initially pushed some rounds to 1300 fps just to see what would happen...slowly and incrementally and always chrono them...no problems at all. We run them (130 gr bullets) at about 1000fps now.     Dolo...we've kicked around the idea of casting and coating for 7.62x39. It seems like I've seen you mention doing this before. What mold or mold size/weight would you recommend? What have you found to be a good velocity to aim for?
  13.   I can appreciate your take on buttcuffs.  My use is based on my perceived need. They, as with most gear, aren't for everyone.
  14. iirc one of the students at this class was running and SOE setup. http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/87948-private-instruction-knoxville-area-shotgun%E2%80%A6limited-class-size/   My personal preference is a Side Saddle (buckshot) and a buttstock holder (slugs). Granted this makes an already heavy tool even heavier...but it also makes it a Grab-n-Go tool. I ran my Mossberg 590 set up this way for a 6 day class at Gunsite long ago and it worked extremely well for me.   IF you wear armor or have a rapid deployment gear set then I can see the value of training with such. But in my life situations I am better served but having the extra ammo on the gun and ready to roll...hence my personal preference for the Side Saddle and Buttcuff setup for training.   Randy make a good point that a buttcuff can interfere with a proper cheekweld when shooting slugs...and cause wear and tear to your face. Agreed. But there are tradeoffs in life.   :2cents:    Let us know what you decide if you will.     http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/speedloaders-accessories/shotgun-shell-holders/side-saddle-shell-holder-prod13103.aspx   http://www.condoroutdoor.com/Condor-US1024.aspx
  15.   Yes. We resize our right after PC'ing them.
  16. I primarily use scrounged range brass for handloading. But I only scrounge abandoned range brass....I mean stuff left at the range that will otherwise get stomped into the dirt if I don't pick it up. I realize that handloaders are a minority...but I look at brass lying abandoned on the ground as money left lying there. Being that I work for a living I appreciate that donation to my limited funds. :pleased:   But I could never understand someone trying to take another person's property...i.e. brass belonging to someone else. I was raised better than that.   I don't shoot at public indoor ranges at this time. I would imagine that could get confusing, a downright PIA at times. I consider myself lucky for being able to avoid that.   I too consider my time as an investment, and value my time. But even factoring that in, since we started casting and PC'ing our own, we still save significantly...and therefore shoot significantly more without suffering pangs of guilt.  ( "we" as in a group of us that share the time and labor.)
  17.   Very believable scenario isn't it? And I agree, the impact would be huge...always the Law of Unintended Consequences to consider...
  18. Well said my brother! You are a good man GTG and I am fortunate to call you friend.   I agree with all you said and feel fortunate as well.
  19. That $339.00 is about the best price going currently. It's the same current price at Georgia Gun Store (Gainsville, GA) where I purchased mine.   My NS 9mm ran me $369.00 including shipping and transfer/TICS etc through my FFL. iirc they were listed at $329.00 when I ordered mine.   Now my only gripe is that a spare recoil spring assembly is darn hard to find! :wall:     Quantico Tactical has decent spare mag prices. http://quanticotactical.com/asp/itemDetail.asp?dispItemNum=2891&type=M&CMN=Smith%20and%20Wesson&CMNum=142&CMSNum=679&CMSN=Magazines
  20. Positive mojo, Prayers, and best wishes to you and Bogey.   We gain more from them than we could ever give. They are a Blessing my friend, but I know you already know that.
  21. The XDS 9 is a good gun. One of my buds has one and I shot it several times. Tempting...but I went with a 9mm Shield (got a good deal on it online) and I'm quite pleased with it. I like the Shield's trigger much better and I deplore grip safeties on any make handgun. Just my personal bias.
  22. Thank you Erik. I knew you wouldn't let me down.   I've read The Survivalist series and Last Stand up to, but not including, the ones you linked...They are now on my list.   1500 Miles looks good as well. Good reviews, especially regarding character development...which isn't always present in this genre unfortunately. Thanks for the head's up.   I always get anxious when I'm down to 1 or 2 books left to read in the "stack". :pleased:
  23.   You read the manual? :stunned:
  24. I've loaded tons of new brass in my Dillon, and my old Lee single stage, without issue... many different rifle and pistol calibers...including .44 spl and mag.   I have to ask how much of a bell you are putting on the cases?   Expander issue? I just don't know.   I spray lube even my 9mm cases as it makes the whole process run smoother and easier.   Hopefully someone smarter than I will come along and solve this for you. :pleased:
  25. What happened?   Did you guys quit reading?   Was there something in the Obama/Republicrats new trade agreement banning PAW books?  :ugh:       Just in case I'm wrong...   Joe Nobody Book 10 of the Bishop series (The Toymaker) is pretty darn good so far, but I have just started it.   http://www.amazon.com/Toymaker-Holding-Their-Own-10/dp/1939473292/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433939427&sr=1-1&keywords=joe+nobody+books   and I have The Olympus Device Book 3 sitting on my nightstand to read.   http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-Device-Book-Three/dp/1511593601/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433939625&sr=1-2&keywords=joe+nobody+books       A non-fiction book I would highly recommend to anyone interested in shooting, training, and relatively recent historical evolution of firearms training is:   Newhall Shooting:A Tactical Analysis by Michael E. Wood   http://www.amazon.com/Newhall-Shooting-Enforcements-Deadliest-Shootings/dp/144024099X/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1433939904&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=the+newhall+incident   Mr. Wood dispels a few of the "myths", or simply non-truths related to the Newhall incident that have permeated firearms training for a few decades now...such as "the officers put their spent brass in their pockets like they were taught to do on the practice range"... The book is well written and extremely well documented with detailed references. It's more than worth your time if you have the interest.     So...if you folks still read books...What ya reading? :pleased:
