How are you set for ammo and reloading components?
Jamie Jackson replied to gregintenn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Comms nailed it. Great company imho. My order is still "processing" but I expected no less as there is no doubt they'll be digging out from under all those orders for a while. -
Where do you buy your reloading supplies?
Jamie Jackson replied to enfield's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I started a thread on this place for Knoxville area folks some time back, but neglected to link it here...my bad. I have had great luck the past several months at Proneshooters in West Knoxville...near Lovell Road on Kingston Pike behind Biker Rags. Phil and Lori are good people! http://proneshooter.com/ -
What's the rationale for a truck/car long gun?
Jamie Jackson replied to jgradyc's topic in Long Guns
This. If I need it, then things are really bad and therefore I need it. I have no illusions nor delusions of rushing into a situation just to be mistaken for an "Active Shooter" or "Terrorist" and being shot down by the good guys. But there are obvious situations where it could come into play and I want that option to be available to me. Many situations are over and done long before an individual could make it out to their vehicle to retrieve their long gun... but one certainly would have been handy for a trained good guy in the same parking lot as our recent Chattanooga terrorist attack. And unfortunately these potentialities will more than likely increase in the coming months and years. Options can be a good thing. -
Shoot Dave. There's people that would kill you and eat you too. Crazy world out there. Doesn't mean we should plan for the future. LOL :pleased: I just wouldn't recommend putting up a sign in your yard.

Magic bullet buttons that turn your AR into a fully auto
Jamie Jackson replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
A major difference between "gun folks" and the general masses is that the majority of us will take the initiative to fact check a topic, regardless of the nature of that topic. I know there are always exceptions, but just reading here you'll find most folks take little at face value and research the topics themselves...most people... -
I have no firsthand knowledge of this, but read an interesting article a short time ago about a hybrid "coywolf" that is spreading across the Eastern US. I don't know of any sightings this far south, but the eventuality exists. Could be BS, could be real...probably be argued...but stranger things have happened. https://www.rt.com/usa/320214-coywolf-dog-coyote-wolf-hybrid/

Magic bullet buttons that turn your AR into a fully auto
Jamie Jackson replied to Sam1's topic in General Chat
Uh...No. That would totally have a negative impact on their agenda... -
All good points, especially about keeping a low profile on this. But have "extra" things, that you will have in your rotation for personal use, that can be used as barter items makes good sense. Actually good sense in an everyday kind of way. If you purchase items you and your family use normally, you save money now. Our fiat currency is in a constant state of devaluation...we all see it and speak of it as in the "normal rise" in the cost of ammo and components... Barter doesn't have to only be utilized in a SHTF scenarios or TWETOAWKI. We've experienced some financially difficult times related to family situations and illness and not having to go to the grocery store for a couple of months (using our stored items) was a God send and allowed to work through that situation and rebuild our stocks. During the severe ammo and component shortage we all experienced a few years back, being able to barter items on hand proved extremely beneficial and markedly lessened that strain for me/us. There is no reason that such couldn't be done sensibly. And having the ability to help a trusted friend in need without compromising your own situation is never a bad thing. I respect that aspect of the Morman philosophy...having enough on hand not to burden your community and enough on hand to help friends in need. The things we do to prepare make our day to day life more simple and less stressful...if their is no SHTF or TWETOAWKI....Great...I hope that will be so...but we're still better off in the long run. But I would never consider putting up a sign and opening myself up to that fiasco...not saying anyone here would...only that I wouldn't. Skills are, as always, invaluable. Having extra items to get you through the rough times is pretty valuable too. :2cents:

Magpul Glock mags....They work!
Jamie Jackson replied to Erik88's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I guess they were hit or miss for a lot of folks. I had to take a bit of sandpaper to the plastic "twigs" sticking out around a few of the KCI mags feedlips...but they have run great sense...other than ejecting them onto concrete...the baseplates simply disintegrate! LOL. I replaced them with Glock factory baseplates and problem solved. I still haven't tried any of the Magpul G 19 mags. Maybe they'll run a sale and I'll check a few out. But my preference remains OEM Glock mags hands down. -
Magpul Glock mags....They work!
Jamie Jackson replied to Erik88's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've had one and been running it through my range gear for several months. It works fine, but like Erik said, the fit and finish is not impressive and a $10.00-$13.00 range would make them more attractive. fwiw I have KCI and Kahn mags that work just as well and cost a heck of a lot less...these are strictly range mags mind you. -
I have no doubt that it is you that is the friend Bresa and these guys are just showing their appreciation for that. Life kind look grim some days, but things like this show us all how wonderful life truly is. You're a good man Sir, and are definitely Blessed. Glad you guys have each other my friend.

Thank you guys. Of course I agree on the .308 Hozzie. Great caliber and sufficient for pretty most North American game. I've taken whitetail, Mule deer, and antelope with both .30-06 and .308 back years ago. Never a problem. My friend is a relatively new shooter and just wanting to get his first rifle. I'll look into the Savage with the accutrigger for him. Much obliged folks.

I don't have a need either, but a friend recently mentioned that he in fact does. What is the collective opinion as far as the quality and function of this gun? He would be using it mainly for whitetail, here in TN and in upper Michigan... 200+/- yards at most. Thanks for posting this Hozzie.

Obviously great advice all the way around. I would like to add that once you choose a defensive round, invest in enough of it to insure that particular round functions as flawlessly as possible in your particular handgun of choice. All firearms have their particularities and idiosyncrasies... I have seen Golden Sabers and Hydrashocks not want to chamber in certain guns while functioning flawlessly in like models. It simply sometimes happens. I generally purchase my chosen defensive rounds in 500 round lots and run at least 100 rounds through that particular gun to ensure a level of reliability. It's a bit of an investment, but well worth the price imho. Another thought: At times we chamber and rechamber the top rounds in our magazines. This can be because we have to unload the run for various reasons....cleaning, changing out for practice mags/rounds and then rechambering our carry ammo and I'm certain many other examples exist. There is the potential for a bullet setback to occur in this process and could potentially lead to a pressure spike or variation at the least. I make it a habit to shoot a mag or two of my carry ammo at least once a year. This will ensure I have "fresh" carry ammo in my handgun, as well as help me to verify my point of aim/point of impact remains as where I think it should be. When I carried a 45 acp I carried Hydrashocks as well. I've seen at least 2 individuals shot with them and they performed just as advertised...not so much so in the 9mm shootings I've seen with them... I currently carry 124 gr Gold Dot plus P Black Hills in my 9mm's...but there are many quality self defense rounds available. Just pick one that give you as close to 100% reliability as possible...and hit the range...better yet...go to a quality class and give some of them a try. Win-Win imho. :2cents:

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Jamie Jackson replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I have to admit that the Sam I have pictured in my mind (from Joe's description as I have no friggin' imagination) is pretty darn hot! So I'll probably read the next installment... :pleased: That's it...I have achieved dirty old man status...bout time! LOL -
It's raining here too. So to celebrate we went shooting this morning. We ran about an hour of low light - no light handgun at an indoor range, then stood under the shelter and shot steel with long guns and handguns at 25-50-75 yards. It was a good morning! But it's also a good day for handloading. btw..I finally picked up a Little Crow WTF. That sucker is awesome! It'll comfortably trim 500 pieces of 5.56 brass an hour. Now I need to go down to the basement prime those 700 trimmed pieces...Life is Good! :pleased:

LOL. What happened? You can tell us... And yes...I agree..there are bad influences on board here...but I'm glad they are.

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
Jamie Jackson replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
Just bumping this one back up to see if anyone is reading anything interesting. I also wanted to mention, that for a limited time, Matt Bracken is offering his excellent "Enemies Trilogy" for free (Kindle) on Amazon. https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2015/12/01/fire-mission-bracken-trilogy-offer/ And while not a book, Bracken has an extremely well written essay regarding the current world situation...entitled "Tet Take 2: Islam's 2016 European Offensive". Bracken does a great job in explaining his take on the current status of Islam - International Socialism - and Nationalism. imho it is more than worth the time it takes to read it. He draws many conclusions I've read and else where but has the ability to articulate much more succinctly than I could ever hope to do. Here's that link: https://westernrifleshooters.wordpress.com/2015/11/29/bracken-tet-take-two-islams-2016-european-offensive/ fwiw, I found "Succession ll" by Joe Nobody to be so-so. The lead characters were just too super-hero laid back West Texas for my tastes...Oh Well. :squint: I am currently reading "Left of Bang". It's about the Marine Corps Combat Hunter program and has some excellent material therein. It's more of a "militarized" version of Gavin de Becker's "Gift of Fear"...a must read even though not pro-gun. I almost feel I need to take notes on "Left of Bang" and will be putting it in my small library next to "Gift of Fear" when I'm done. :2cents:  Link: http://www.amazon.com/Patrick-Van-Horne-Left-Bang/dp/B00N4EJEZQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1449000087&sr=1-2&keywords=left+of+bang+how+the+marine+corps%27+combat+hunter+program+can+save+your+life Link: http://www.amazon.com/Other-Survival-Signals-Protect-Violence/dp/0440508835/ref=pd_sim_14_3?ie=UTF8&dpID=51x0cj4i6yL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL160_SR105%2C160_&refRID=03D4XVRAMYQ4G4BH57BY -
I think the major concerns have been thoughtfully addressed. I carry factory loads in my semi-auto's...but carry handloads in my J Frame revolver because what I choose for my revolver is no longer manufactured. If I couldn't get my preferred factory ammo, I wouldn't hesitate to carry handloads that I trust. But that's my decision alone. Unscrupulous attorneys will do as they always do. I can articulate why I do what I do and assume that risk. Handgun rounds are horribly ineffective when compared to rifle or shotgun rounds. So multiple accurate shots are what counts in the final tally. Like comms said...a well placed .22 can kill a person...but there are plenty of examples of all handgun calibers and/or bullets failing. It's just a reality. My advice is to carry whatever you trust. And practice with it or a reasonable facsimile a lot. Good Luck and stay safe. We live in "interesting times"...

It's a beauty and proud you should be! Great job Ramjo! Red...your avatar is simply too distracting! Thank you! :pleased:

Good points to both Ted and CnB. I'll take knowledge and skills any day...but still put back my bean, bullets and bandaids. I have little to no faith in any government entity and especially what passes as our current fiat currency...

Thank you Bersa! Hope you have a Blessed day with those you love as well Sir.
