Printing Doesn't Matter - Until It Does
Jamie Jackson replied to TGO David's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Very good article. BFE, iirc, is Morgan Atwood's company. He frequently collaborates with Ian Wendt who has/had Special Circumstances (knife maker). These are solid, knowledgeable guys that bring a lot to the table of the self defense training community. The article is excellent and is worth reading more than once in my humble opinion. I've carried (legally) concealed for about 30 years now. I'm an old fart, 5'9" and 180 #'s. I'm either in scrubs or wearing a tee shirt and jeans or a short sleeve shirt. I manage to carry a Glock 17 or 19, extra mag, knife, and flashlight. To my knowledge I've never been "made". To Morgan's point, maybe nobody has ever mentioned the fact... but I've been around a metric buttload of cops in social and training environments. And a lot of non-gun folks and even, dare I say it? antigun folks in various situations (NPE) circumstances. Properly fitting clothing and quality gear make all the difference in the world. I'm going to link a vid...I hope...I "borrowed" from P-F posted by Craig Douglas aka "SouthNarc", head of what has become know as the "Shivworks Collective". I know Craig from back home in South MS and was blessed to train a bunch with him before he even started his now very well know ECQC classes. Be warned there is adult language in the vid. This is not a "gear advertisement" vid, though Craig is demonstrating particular gear. And no, that is not Craig's daily rollout of gear...he's making a point...but some very good points imho. The vid is about 20 minutes in length...a small investment in time for the knowledge gained...I promise. I do admit my bias, as I hold Craig in high esteem. https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_id=1817757491621065 -
Welcome to TN and TGO Marine.

Welcome aboard Robb!

Welcome aboard Randy.

I certainly didn't think that you were promoting them. I doubt anyone else did either. I appreciate the head's up, as I may still have a few photos there, but was simply unwilling to dig through their popups and ads to retrieve them.

The knowledge lost is probably the most frustrating aspect of PB's BS for me. Heck, a huge number of us learned the finer point of powder coating bullets here on TGO from the incredible photo pictorials that were posted. Those were phenomenal!
-
I just learned of this as well. When Photobucket pulled this stunt, I moved the overwhelming majority of my photos to Imgur and I'm much better off for it! Imgur is much easier to post/attach from and isn't inundated with annoying popup ads and other Photobucket BS. I would imagine the direction PB went cost them quite a few users.

Great info and suggestions folks. Thank you. Brasil...Thank you my brother. The Ryobi is very similar to one I borrowed from Alex a couple of years ago. I'm tempted to run up to Home Depot and give it a look my next day off. Much obliged to all.

Thank you all for the excellent advice! Mac...that was my exact concern, purchasing way more than I'll actually need. I have a tendency to do just that. I am considering the below linked electric pressure washers. Any thoughts or other suggestions? Sun Joe https://www.amazon.com/Snow-Joe-SPX3000-BLK-Pressure-14-5-Amp/dp/B073FBKQL1/ref=sr_1_17?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1526491726&sr=1-17&keywords=electric+pressure+washer Karcher https://www.amazon.com/Karcher-Electric-Pressure-TruPressure-Warranty/dp/B01N20PROC/ref=sr_1_13?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1526491726&sr=1-13&keywords=electric+pressure+washer Thanks chances R. These are in stock local to me: Ryobi https://www.homedepot.com/p/Ryobi-2-000-PSI-1-2-GPM-Electric-Pressure-Washer-RY141900/205566055

Thank you tntnixon. I have considered this. Rental locally is approximately $60.00 for 4 hours. Twice a year (my norm) and I'm obviously at $120.00. Then I have to consider scheduling the rental pick, not necessarily at my convenience... more based on availability. Because of my work schedule and additional obligations, a 2 day project could also become costly. Yes upkeep is a consideration, but it already is in relation to my mower and weedeater. Not that I would use the pressure nearly as often, but being able to do so when need and opportunity arise at short notice would be nice. A "convenience tax" I guess. LOL Is yours gas or electric? Gas I assume. Have you has issues with yours that required replacement parts? if so, did that occur soon after purchase? Is there a make or brand to avoid? Thanks again for your input and thoughts good Sir.

I need to purchase a pressure washer for around the home use. It would be primarily used for cleaning decks and siding, although I'm certain more needs will pop up. My preference would be one costing $200.00 or less. But I have very little experience with them other than the few I've rented over the years. What would you folks recommend? Gas or electric? PSI rating? fwi I don't foresee a need to use a pressure washer any significant distance away from my dwelling..but maybe I'm missing something. I would appreciate any thoughts and suggestions. Thanks in advance, Jamie

Got my HCP renewal notice
Jamie Jackson replied to bersaguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I don't believe it's an everyone kinda thing. Just length of time since your last photo. In my case I've had my TN Permit for 12 years since my last photo. Makes sense to me I needed to have an updated photo. -
Truth here! I've had/seen issues with pretty much every ammo maker through the years, but it's a remarkably low percentage of occurrences. I've fired a fair amount of Freedom Munitions and used a lot of their components (X-treme bullets) in handloads and have been pleased with the results. I've probably had more issues with Winchester White box, but that's because it was once less expensive than handloading and therefore purely a volume thing. The best and safest practice is to check every round we placed in a mag, but sometimes it's just gonna be a bad round.

I was just about to post this link! Thank you. As we record these episodes (work/shift related etc) I watched the finale Monday and the crossover yesterday. "Suspension of disbelief" is helpful...but I was entertained. btw I agree with Maggie!

It is Dr. House this time! LOL Excellent review and good for you for taking your classes on the road Sir. I especially appreciate your teaching of the "Metro Ready" (was not familiar with the term) and "turn of concept" teaching of the 4 Firearms Safety Rules into the "4 Firearm Safety Rules Lifestyle". Thank you! I'll be including the Metro Ready into my dry fire and live fire practice. Jamie eta: iirc you posted a vid where you guys were incorporating this concept...i.e. not inadvertently covering no shoots in a man on man competition. Or am I making stuff up again? LOL Found it!

True this! I have some old Old Hickory kitchen knives I've has since the late 70's and they get razor sharp extremely easily. Minimal effort on my part. I have to make sure we have band-aids in the kitchen for my wife, and warn her, when I sharpen them. I picked up a couple of additional Old Hickory's about 8-9 years ago, and while decent knives, they don't hold a candle to my earlier versions. Jab...I agree, stainless steel Old Hickory's are a blasphemous proposition. But your analogy is a bit troubling...

LOL. Yep...26 oz is a typical round bold fashioned box of salt. I would imagine the Tony's you pick up in a grocery store is made with less salt. Home made is definitely better imho. Have you ever seen any of the Justin Wilson cooking videos? He was on MS public or Educational TV back in my younger days. It'd probably frighten most "health conscious" folks to see the amount of salt he routinely used in preparing his most excellent Cajun dishes.

This is an effort to make amends for posting what turned out to be a one day only manager special...I checked again yesterday and the fryers were back up to $0.88/lb. Here is the recipe for Tony's Seasoning. It from Tony Chachere's Cajun Country Cookbook. I picked up my copy around 1978-79 and started making this seasoning....long before it was manufactured commercially. link to cookbook: https://www.amazon.com/Tony-Chacheres-Cajun-Country-Cookbook/dp/0960458018 Tony Chachere's Creole Seasoning Recipe By : Tony Chachere Amount Measure Ingredient -- Preparation Method -------- ------------ -------------------------------- 26 ounces salt 1 1/2 ounces black pepper – ground 2 ounces red pepper – ground 1 ounce garlic powder 1 ounce chili powder 1 ounce Monosodium glutamate -- (Accent) Mix well and use like s When it's salty enough, it's seasoned to perfection. For barbeque and fried foods: Season food all over. Cook as usual.

oops...I obviously need to work on my reading and comprehension skills LOL Excellent review none the less! And I have no doubt Dr.House's reviews will be great as well.

Excellent review by Dr.House. And Sherman is definitely a "trusted source"! Congrats Lee! I saw your thread on PF and there were some superbad .45-70's in that class. Wow! I especially liked the takedown version that one gentleman had. Very sweet. I have a Marlin 336 I've owned since the mid 1960's. I have a set of Williams peep sights on it. Now you've got me wanting to run a few hundred rounds through it! Dang...guess I better hit the reloading press this afternoon. LOL Here's a link to a vid from jlw's YT channel: (hope you don't mind my listing it)

I always check the Weekly ad at Kroger's and must have missed this one! $0.29 lb for whole fryers. Several are gonna be vac sealed (will last 1-2 years and no freezer burn) and one is in the oven as I type this. This is Monday 4/2/18 and the sale should run through tomorrow. If you haven't had Tony's Opelousas baked chicken I feel sorry for you. Time to get your Cajun on! Not all food storage has to be freeze dried... Have a great day folks.
