Sleep is highly overrated...apparently. I suffer the same malady so I'm glad to have company. I enjoy these posts GT. Thank you!

Hopeful new resident soon!
Jamie Jackson replied to innocent bystander's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome aboard. Knoxville is a good area... growing as Bersa mentioned, but there's lots of good folks around here. I'm an ORSA member and jpx is 100% correct on his assessment of the range and members. The Action Pistol side is exceptionally good imho. The range north of Knoxville (Oliver Springs) is Windrock and it's run by a solid guy. Link: http://www.windrockshootingrange.com/ Conservative gun owners are always welcome @innocent bystander Jamie -
I am not LEO nor do I pretend to be so. I like a climate controlled work environment and the illusion of control over my day to day life. Working in an ER, I assure you it's an illusion... Several years ago (2006 as I just checked), operating under this condition in TN law, we hosted a Manadnock class using a local LEO trainer for certification. I've carried a variety of impact tools since (actually I carried them long before, but back in MS &LA). I keep a copy of the law, laminated, in my wallet...the issue has never arisen in any case. I take that you are a former, or current, LEO @ChanceMcCall . Therefore I assume you've been credentialed in impact tool use and application. You should be good to go. I have certs in OC/ Chemical agents (DTI and others) and carry OC, but the certs aren't required (to the best of my knowledge) in TN. Knives? again GTG. Knives are as ubiquitous as friggin' cell phones...almost Great advice and info in this thread by knowledgeable folks already. Welcome to TGO. Jamie

If we didn't cast and PC bullets that $.14/rd is about the cost of quality handloads. That's a great price and the work is done for you LOL. This is definitely a time to "buy it cheap and stack it deep" as the saying goes. Tempting...

LTS Food Sale items Fall 2018
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
@Shorty I've found the greatest benefit of something like MRE's is that if/when an event occurs that disrupts food supply or requires your time, energy, and immediate attention then minimal prep foods like MRE's frees you from more time consuming meal preps. My personal experience and first hand benefit has been post hurricane cleanup. But there are countless examples that can come from our Pre-incident Assessment Needs. Just my ever devaluing $.02 worth... -
LTS Food Sale items Fall 2018
Jamie Jackson replied to Jamie Jackson's topic in Survival and Preparedness
No Sir. The last time I ordered some MRE's it was from MREDepot. https://www.mredepot.com/ The missus and I actually ate a couple of MRE's from 2005 last week. The still in surprisingly good shape. The water activated heaters had died, but after that length of time I'm not surprised. -
In the vein of Black Friday sales and in order to not clutter Black Friday listings for guns & ammo etc, I thought I'd post this in the Survival and Preparedness subsection. I received this link in an e-mail from The Ready Store. I've done business with them for several years now and have always been pleased with the products they carry. I've tried the Chicken & Rice (#10 can) and the pancake mix. While not exactly homemade, they are pretty darn good. We garden, freeze, can, dehydrate and store bulk purchase foods (repackage and seal in Mylar etc,) even have some MRE's on hand. These are simply additional options to consider for supplemental and emergency use. Just thought I'd pass this along in case anyone has an interest or see the need. https://www.thereadystore.com/on-sale/sale-4?utm_campaign=20181113a+(H4Sxw9)&utm_medium=email&_ke=eyJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJqYWNrc29uLmphbWllQGdtYWlsLmNvbSIsICJrbF9jb21wYW55X2lkIjogIk1OS1lpeiJ9&utm_source=Sales+%26+Promotions+Subscribers+Tier+3

Hello from Idaho - Soon to be Tennessee
Jamie Jackson replied to gearchecker's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome Gregory. I don't believe ORSA will allow 50 BMG... 'cause fudds... I'm a member and there's some great folks there, especially on the Action Pistol side of things. But I do believe Windrock Range in Oliver Springs will welcome you. But I don't believe Windrock has the land to really let you stretch your legs with your 50. Having your own piece of property would be ideal. Best of luck and glad to have you aboard. -
I am so sorry to hear about this Greg. My Sister had a cat she gave insulin injections to for several years. I believe that the 10 milliliter bottles of insulin contain 1000 units. So if the dose is 18 units per day that'd be 55 or so days worth. A quick Google search shows insulin to run about $275.00 for the 10 ml bottle. I didn't realize it was so expensive. Prayers out for you guys. Jamie sorry to crosspost Shorty.

What is your chosen Self Defense ammo
Jamie Jackson replied to Ronald_55's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Excellent point peejman! I don't chamber the same round more than twice, 3 times at most, because of the potential of bullet setback or nose damage that potentially occurs when chambering. I just toss that/those round(s) in a ziplock back for later range use. As I shoot/practice/train with my Glocks or Shield that yields me about at least 100 rounds per year. I make it a habit to shoot empty my carry mag at least once a year to ensure fresh functional ammo in the mag. I also I use these "recycled" rounds to ensure POA = POI and reliable functioning in my carry guns. This is the primary reason I've purchased the 50 round boxes, and generally multiples in the same lot, in the past. Doubling the price, as with restricting the 50 round box sales is gonna hurt... -

I agree on concept Omega. But a free market (more or less) will drive this. The manufacturers are contractually bound to the Law Enforcement organizations, but from what I read see an opportunity to sell ammo to civilians (I do know cops are civilians LOL) at twice the price. I won't pay that and I do "roll my own" for carry time to time. My carry handloads are primarily wadcutters for my .38 spl handguns. I have some Gold Dot, XTP, and Golden Saber bullets I could load and may well consider that down the road. I have no issue with doing so for SD for the same reasons previously mentioned. @Gotthegoods I hadn't seen that article my friend. Heck that'll drive the buying market right there! I still have a couple of 50 rd boxes of Black Hills 124 gr +P I purchased as a 1000 lot back when they loaded using 124 gr Gold Dots. My RMR'd 17 loves 'em. @Ronald_55 Sorry buddy, got my shipping notice today. -

I'm not 100% certain, but from what I read you can still pick up the new, but older bar code, 50 rd boxes for a decent price, for the moment. As those move out the restrictions will be in play. This is just interweb chatter btw... but I picked up 250 rounds of HST with free shipping and no tax from Streichers. Doubt they'll be any cheaper down the road. -

I also read something irritating on a couple of websites. It looks like some of the manufacturers are beginning to restrict sales of 50 round boxes of their SD ammo to LEO Only. As I understand this it is a marketing choice and I've seen boxes marked such for many years, but apparently the tracking technology is now available and the manufacturers are starting to enforce this through their vendors. The below is from the FAQ's at Bone Frog... Anybody know anything more or differently? https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/apps/help-center#!ive-purchased-these-products-from-you-previously-federal-premium-tactical-hst-jhp-and-speer-gold-dot-hp-why-are-they-now-available-to-lequalified-customers-only 50 round boxes of these products have always been intended for Law Enforcement; 20 round boxes of these products are marketed for retail purchase. The manufacturers are getting stricter on these guidelines as it pertains to online sales, thus we have been asked to abide by indicating this on these product pages and asking customers to register with us in order to purchase these products. Currently we are required to restrict the purchase of 124gr but most likely eventually all 50 round LE boxes will be restricted. It might be a good idea to stock up on a some 50 rd boxes while they are still so affordable. Jamie -

I didn't think so. I don't know what's up with that LOL. Probably just my quick link without reading it closely. I claim a tired and aging brain... It looks like Bone Frog has 'em in 9mm, $23.00/50 rds https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/products/9mm-135gr-p-hornady-critical-duty-90225 -

SG ammo is great as well, but I also use the below sites/businesses. https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/collections/ammunition/products/9mm-124gr-p-federal-premium-tactical-hst-jhp-p9hst3 https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/collections/ammunition/products/9mm-135gr-p-hornady-critical-duty-90225 https://www.bonefroggunclub.com/collections/ammunition/products/9mm-147gr-speer-lawman-gdhp-53619 https://www.streichers.com/hornady-9mm-critical-duty-ammunition https://www.streichers.com/cci-speer-9mm-gold-dot-hp-duty-ammunition -

Jamie Jackson replied to Ronald_55's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
In my 9mm guns I currently carry 147gr HST. But I'd be comfortable with anything on DocGKR's "list". Oh and full wadcutters in my .38's. Adequate penetration and a wadcutter with a sharp ogive has a tendency to cut tissue as it passes through...a HP may expand. Just an opinion and observation. "Streichers has 147 HST for $21.99. Use code “comeback” for 10% off and free shipping through Sunday." I copied this from another site I frequent, but I also ordered a few as these are 50 round boxes and quite a few of the vendors seem to be moving to restrict 50 box sales to LEO's per manufactures guidelines. Bone Frog usually has decent pricing as well. I simply can't afford the 20 round boutique boxes at the same price for only 20 rounds... -
I can't speak as to a tree stand, but we have 2 of the Mr.Heater Big Buddy heaters for emergency heat use and they put out a remarkable level of heat for their size. When we hit zero degrees here in the Knoxville area several years back we lost electrical power for several hours. We set up one in our living room (open to dining room) and one in the garage. The living room area is about 1200 Sq Ft...we were toasty warm and we had no pipes freeze because of the heater in the garage, unlike many of our neighbors and friends. Needless to say I'm sold on these little heaters.

That sounds a lot like Glen Tate's "299 Days" series. The first 3-4 books of that series were pretty decent. But there certainly a lot of similarities in this genre.
-
That ain't right! Darn! Keep us posted if you will.

Thanks for the update. If you do decide to pick up the 9mm, please post a review. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Now that's a great idea! What has happened to the spirit of volunteerism? For the greater good and all that . LOL

A friend sent me a link to the Extar EP 9. It's a 9mm "pistol" that accepts Glock magazines. Here's the link: http://extarusa.com/ep9.htm I've spent the past week in deep South MS sans internet connectivity, so I've only done a cursory search since I returned last evening. But these look like an affordable entry point into PPC... IF they function reliably. And that'd be the kicker... This is a polymer blow-back design, so long term durability could/would be a concern. But, it's around $400.00...so there's that. Anyone have any first hand experience with one?

Thank you Brasil. I have way too many photos eerily similar to that. Our Thoughts and Prayers are with you and all in the area. It's a hard row to hoe getting back from that. But with the Good Lord's help and good folks like you my Brother, they'll make it back. Be safe my friend. Jamie
