  1. It's a survival mechanism! There's some crazy s**t going on "behind the curtain ". I think it was Waylon that sang "I've always been crazy but it kept me from going insane "...something along that line EMS, Fire, & LEO are kindred spirits
  2. Along the lines of movies I do really like (unlike the above) is the 1999 movie "Bringing Out The Dead". Nicholas Cage is a burned out NYC Paramedic on the verge of a psychotic break and it has a great ensemble cast that are crazier than he is. Scorsese even has a cameo role in it. I saw it with my wife and son in the theater back in N.O. My wife & I were RN's and my son a Medic. We were the only people laughing and we laughed a lot.
  3. I'm trying to figure a downside to this LOL, I did think it was an interesting story with a twist I had not heard/seen before. Arguing with dead people in denial was kinda humorous to me. Felt like doing it at time to time at work... So next time I watch it I'll just close my eyes during those scenes
  4. Is Afterlife a series that streaming? or is it the 2009 movie with Liam Neeson and Christina Ricci? Never know what I'll find when I use the Google machine LOL
  5. I agree @918HCKR that all foods should be rotated. FIFO concept. That said I do have home canned foods that have kept well for 4 years and, some, longer. The foods, of course, lose nutritional value and texture. I remove my rings after 24 hours and gently wash the jars in warm soapy water. It's easier to check for a break in the seal without the rings causing a "false seal". Don't take me wrong please. I think the 18-24 months is a solid recommendation, just not an absolute. I'll be using some pickled jalapeños in a recipe today that I canned in 2019. The seal was great but the pepper texture is soft. Taste is still awesome When I help folks get started in canning I always recommend strictly following trusted guidelines, such as Ball's Bluebook and USDA too. Since I'm gimped up (ankle surgery) I'll be very late getting my garden started this year, but look forward to grabbing some fresh veggies from the local farmer's market and canning them . 6. Thanks @Links2k. I've got the "3 Body Problem" in my que. I am thoroughly enjoying "Shogun" on Hulu. I remember the original series on TV and read the book a very long time ago. I'm impatient by nature so waiting for weekly episodes to drop is not my favorite thing... but the series is developing well. I like old cheesy action movies... like the original "Road House" with Patrick Swayze , Sam Elliot, and Ben Gazzara (1989). But then I think "Lethal Weapon" and "Die Hard" are excellent Christmas movies The "Road House 2024" on Netflix is an abomination! Blasphemy! and I can't get that part of my life back... ETA: I stuck for the next 4-5 weeks on a walker/rollator and ortho boot according to my surgeon yesterday...LIMITED weight bearing hoping the tendons attach properly...so please keep recommendations coming in please.
  7. I don't know if you use TargetSports (I'm a discount member) but they have Armscor .22 short 29 gr solids for $50.59/500. They list several OOS .22 shorts including CCI 27 gr HP. You can set up notifications easily and I've had pretty good luck doing so over the past several months. Heck, I don't even need any and it's tempting
  8. Black Cat firecrackers got mine. Durable little guys We only had Zippos and matches LOL
  9. I think that was the glue. iirc it would harden sealing the slit in the rubber top and would need to be reopened with a knife or pair of scissors. Good times
  10. @Garufa is 100% spot on in developing a relationship with your Dentist and following up with a preventative maintenance program. We've seen lots of dental issues in the ER over the years. But ER's are very limited in their treatment capabilities. Maybe a Lidocaine / Bupivacaine injection (not all ER Doc's are skilled at this btw), anti-inflammatories, and antibiotics. I met our Dentist when we first moved to Knoxville (travel assignment) in 2006. I see him every 6 months for a cleaning and checkup. I made certain he was "In Plan" when I purchased a supplemental policy for Medicare. I had a toothache several years ago, of course on a weekend, called him (I have his cell#). he met me at his closed office and got me started on the appropriate meds. Made my weekend tolerable and followed up a few days later. And he's a gun guy. A solid professional relationship helps.. FWIW Eugenol is the agent in oil of cloves that serves as an antiseptic and analgesic. We used it 50 years ago when I was a Corpsman treating toothaches and/or when putting in temporary fillings to Marines out in the field. You can pick up a "Kit" at Walmart or CVS/Walgreens usually. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Red-Cross-Toothache-Medication-0-125oz-Bottle/46008054?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=0&adid=2222222222746008054_14069003552_202077872&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=42423897272&wl4=pla-295289030566&wl5=9013463&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=46008054&veh=sem&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2PSvBhDjARIsAKc2cgNy4rExg4403cXSMN14Y8OIC_v0YjC7XyvY-oC9bKYA9Wnr1uYQCMAaAiVHEALw_wcB Being on blood thinners and heart meds can certainly make treatment options challenging. Hope things are getting better for you @DeepSouth
  11. I have the TX 22 Compact and it is remarkably reliable at well over 5K rounds. Best .22 I've ever owned. Good on Taurus for taking care of you!
  12. Prayers sent @tacops. You've been through the mill! God is the place to put your faith
  13. Prayers for an uneventful and speedy recovery! I'm 70 and just had the cast removed from my ankle surgery a couple of days ago. Got me some spanking new titanium anchor and tendons/ligaments reattached. Rocking a classy robo-boot that looks like something out of a transformer movie My home looks like a well armed and fortified nursing home LOL. The most frustrating part is not being able to go to the range. My buds keep sending me video clips of them shooting steel setups at ORSA. You would think they'd have the decency to keep that to themselves. Aging has it challenges no doubt. Best wishes to all in this boat. It's been a fun ride!
  14. Thank you my friend! Everything I've read and the P&S Podcasts I've listened to have me really wanting to, at the very least, handle one. So I am envious! I would be tempted (very) to pick up a 632 & a 432. It looks like Smith, Jason Cloessner (Lipsey's) and some for-real gun people collaborated to knock this one out of the park. I already have some Lost River .32 H&R mag for carry (LCR) and I handload .32 S&W/ H&R Mag, so... I'm obviously rationalizing to justify the purchase LOL Sorry to drift
  15. Acknowledging that @Moped has keenly developed enabling skills and therefore ask he, or anyone local, keep an eye open for one of the S&W 432 UC (.32 H&R mag) that Lipsey's was so instrumental in bringing to reality. It's not that I need one but Man! Do I ever want one. That's $500.00 worth of useful custom work rolled into a reasonable factory price. No fluff, just a serious little pocket revolver. TIA
  16. I remember reading the various threads you guys had running then, and learned a lot from the group. A couple of us that shot together were learning to cast and powder coat (even 7.62x39 bullets) and Dolo and Caster were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Probably still have notes from back then. Yeah, sorry to drift off on the 5.56/.223. Interesting reading though. Glad to hear Mr. David is on this side of the green. I wish him and his well.
  17. Mom's are a devious bunch!
  18. Thank you @Sleep profit. Parts just wear out and it takes longer to mend. I did a fair amount of remodeling over the past couple of years with the "Aging in place" concept in mind. It came in handy sooner than I anticipated! LOL I should have installed an outdoor chair lift to the garden.
  19. Thank you @mikegideon and @gregintenn. I couldn't remember the Magnum Metals... @DeepSouth, you may have already read this, but the link below will take you to a 2012 thread regarding this powder and 5.56/.223
  20. They were great folks @DeepSouth and helped me out quite often. Gordon (Dolomite) was very well versed on the whole AK platform, including reloading (handloading was the term that stuck with me from them.) Great guy and truly missed. That's great that your dad knew and interacted with them. Prayers out for them all. Hope you find the info you need. Best of luck to you.
  21. I, unfortunately, must live vicariously through the pics you guys post for now. I had surgery on my ankle last week (Tendons and ligaments reattached, bone removed, and some brand spanking new titanium!). I still hope to get some tomatoes and bell peppers in the ground eventually. Thankfully there's a Farmer's market just down the road (Dixie Lee). So I'm counting on you guys to post pics! Getting old sucks!
  22. While I don't buy and sell a lot on here I have always, seriously ALWAYS, had good experiences here at TGO. Generally the guns I purchase are in better shape than described in their listings. Folks tend to be modest in their descriptors and earnest in not wanting to mislead other members of our community. I don't "Collect" and I shoot my guns. I had to replace the slide and barrel on my G19 a few months back...50K plus rounds over the years and it will probably outlast me at this point. I have a good bud, with deep pockets, and he owns several new guns he's never shot...purchased strictly for collectible purposes. Others he shoots a few cylinders or mags through and puts back in his safes. So I have no difficulty believing some of the guns listed here are LNIB or even new. Heck, I bought a couple of LCR's last year that you couldn't even see the turn lines on. Again, modest in description and I was more than pleased. I too, do shake my head at the sometimes outlandish assortments of attachments and "upgrades" that could only possibly appeal to the person that stuck the assorted "accoutrements" together. Hint: put the gun back towards it's original state and sell the other "stuff" separately...or not... But I like my guns as near to factory original as possible. That gives me the option of screwing them up if I choose...
  23. Your post kinda reads like you were going to post a pic of the label. Maybe I'm misreading it. There used to be a great guy on here (back in the "Dolomite" days), Mr.David (DLM or DLM37015) iirc that ran the gunshow circuit with his daughter (Sam?). He was a wealth of information on surplus powders...so was Dolo. I haven't seen any postings from or about them in years (and wish them the best) but you may find something doing a deep dive search on here, or the interwebs in general. Having the numerical data, lot number etc, could prove helpful if you have that available. Good luck in your search.
  24. My mother grew a mimosa tree. Always. No matter where we lived. Said she like their looks. I think it was specifically for the incredible durability and flexibility of the switches she would make me go and break off. She had a remarkable grip for a small woman and no matter how hard and fast I ran in a circle as she gripped my wrist, she never lost her rhythm. I cut down every mimosa tree I run across still to this day I loved her...but she had that Southern woman "don't mess with me" thing going on...
  25. That's a heck of a deal @Moped! I have to force myself to stay away from the gun stores you frequent! I'd be paying on layaways the rest of my life LOL
