My BIL (RIP) down in Mississippi took quite a few deer using his old $85.00 Mosin and the old Black Box Wolf ammo He was a hell of a fine deer hunter. iirc the majority of his shots were 25-50 yards, occasionally out to 100, but he said he never had any problems using that gun/ammo combination. But that was over 15 years ago and I have no idea if the ammo is the same, but I would think it'd be serviceable. Let us know how the hunt goes for you.

I had the same thought and then I saw a vid a guy on another forum made of him running a Shockwave or a Tac-14 with an RMR on it, from his vehicle. He's not a YT'er type. That particular forum has a lot of solid shooters and trainers on board and several folks post vids to demonstrate concepts and techniques. While and RMR is a very expensive option imho, it was a pretty decent display of the potential of such a setup. You could obviously tell he's put the work into developing what he demonstrated.

Awareness, Avoidance. Deterrence, and Deescalation are always excellent advice. A fight you didn't have to fight is the only one you'll win when all is said and done. We carry a higher obligation when we choose to live an armed lifestyle. At any altercation we know there is at least one deadly force tool available. Please seek professional training @mscar111, it's invaluable imho. And thank you for asking the questions. I hope you'll heed the advice.

This is a pretty convincing argument right here. I hate prepping 5.56/.223 brass. It's tedious no matter how you spin it. And my time is worth something to me. I thoroughly enjoy the process of handloading and load development otherwise... but prepping rifle/carbine brass is a PIA. Thanks @billt.

Yeah, it was a great deal while the sale lasted. The $799.00/1K is in the same ballpark as other sites I frequent. It looks like Bone Frog is now restricting sales. That sucks as they've always had great prices in the past. Iirc we had a discussion about that in relation to the 50 round vs 20 round boxes in the recent past. There's a few sites (SGAmmo for one) stating they are having delayed shipping because of increased orders... looks like folks are taking advantage of the unimpeded availability. Might be prudent considering the current political climate. I'm not encouraging a panic run or anything. Hopefully folks have taken advantage of the incredibly low pricing already this year.

@hipower I think you are making a solid decision to keep this revolver. I still kick myself in the butt for not picking one up years ago. The .44 special is one of my favorite cartridges, especially to handload for, and this is one beautiful Smith imho. Of course you know you could post a pic of it...for those unfortunate souls like myself that must live vicariously through your good fortune.

The 147 gr 9mm HST is hand's down the most accurate factory ammo I've ever fired. I confidently carry it in all of my 9mm's. And it's functional street record is beyond reproach. And it carries Doc GKR's seal of approval. Thankfully I have a "few" boxes of it sitting downstairs.

Darn good price! I know I love my RMR, RDS will kind of spoil ya. The Venom has a top loading battery iirc. That's a great feature imho.

My personal observation and opinion is that we are currently in a buyers market except for niche or highly sought after firearms. With sub-$500.00 AR's (some pretty decent) and many, many Police trade in Glocks and M&P's, and frequent "Specials" from online retailers the used gun market is very competitive, and therefore moving very slowly. We can see from our own Classified section that folks are looking for certain firearms as witnessed by the recent "bumping up" of 1-3 year old threads inquiring about certain firearms. Of Course it would help those folks if sellers would simply Close their ads after they've sold the item... but what the heck... But most firearms here, on Gunbroker and various boards are just moving low & slow. It's a phenomenal time for folks to stock up or acquire what they need or want. It'll change, sooner or later, always does.

I am unaware of any place here in East TN that would be able, or willing, to accommodate your needs. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will chime in. I shoot at ORSA, Point Blank, and occasionally at Windrock. I believe some of our local members shoot at a Moose Lodge, but I've not been there. Private property may be your best bet as regards Tannerite, liability issues and such. But that coupled with a pavilion? Well, I sincerely wish you the best. Please let us know if you find a place. I had an FFL back in the less restrictive (Pre-Clinton era). When Clinton came into office I closed up my home "shop". and Yep, mailed my records to the ATF as was/is required. Now I'm certain they wouldn't put that info into a data base and retain it ... OK, they probably did... OK I'm certain they did...

Rob, Awesome little revolver my friend! I'm a shooter and have minimal collector knowledge. A.J.'s correct in that I am a big fan to T-grip adapters. I've been running a set of Tyler's coupled with a set of Barami Hip Grips on my 640 Smith for a long time now (stuck in my beltline as I type this and drink my morning brew.) I find they fill in the gap under the trigger guard and help position my hand best for a rolling DA break. Love 'em. I've carried this little 640 pretty much daily since '92. The trigger is smooth as silk from simple manual work...trigger pulling! Heck ...Tyler T Grips go for a premium on GB because the order and response time from Tyler in OK is measured in weeks to months generally. They are "old school", but Old School Cool to me. I've recently purchased a couple of sets of T-Grip adapters from BK. Very nice and they work great. I run them on the S&W 15-5 snubbie I purchased from a friend here. It's a '72 vintage (iirc) that I replaced the springs in. Love that sucker! Here's a couple of pics on those. You've got a great revolver there and it would be a dream to work up some handloads for. Congratulations brother!

Agree 100%. While I'm new over there I've found them to be extremely knowledgeable, informative, and friendly. It took a few hours before they started providing info on my M&P .32, but the volume of info on that thread now is encyclopedic!

If you already have someone lined up to trade with, do what works for you. If you plan to list the items for trade on this forum (requires a Benefactor status) someone might well take you up on it. Heck I might depending on where you are in TN. It's a long State! But it all depends on what you mean by "decent (standard) components". Which powder or brand, size of the container, and size of primers and number of them, etc. Components are very affordable and readily available currently as well, more so than I've seen in literally years. It's the HazMat shipping that's off putting to most and we usually offset that by purchasing in bulk quantities. Powders and primers are very specific to the user's need and their particular area of interest in handloading. For example I handload 90-95% of my handgun rounds and only 5-1% of my rifle/carbine rounds. Therefore I have powder and primers that meet my perceived needs setback. If by "decent (standard) components" you mean bullets and brass, well there's need for that in certain circumstances and Flat Rate USPS shipping is readily available. But then, again, we don't know what you mean by "decent (standard) components". So,it depends... There are many online vendors you can check for price, shipping, and availability to give you an idea of what the components you have are selling for. You just have to match another's current needs with your current needs. Based on the amount of information you've provided that's the best advice I can offer...and it's worth just what you paid for it LOL Good Luck @BlessTheUSA.

I have to agree with this statement. While not something I have ever carried for self protection, I did own a couple of these in the late 80's and early 90's. I think I paid between $50.00 - $60.00 for a 25 acp Raven and shot the devil out of in, just plinking around the farm at that time. Incredibly reliable little gun. Same said for a .22 Jennings I had. Literally shot it to death. It ran great with quality .22 ammo.
