  1. It's always best to check several references as you guys are doing. Back during the Newtown shortage I contacted Alliant and Hodgon and their tech reps were very helpful. Don't hesitate to reach out to them. I have used whatever powder and primers were available, but check multiple references and the tech folks. I especially used a burn rate chart when seeking "replacement" or substitute powders. I loaded many thousands of 9mm rounds using Magnum primers (all that was then available) with no issues. I initially reduced the loads by 5% and chronographed and worked up from there. No problems whatsoever. The only time I make sure I'm using Magnum primers is when I loading .357 using H-110 or 2400, but then I'm loading for higher velocity rounds. I use a lot of Unique powder simply because it was the powder I started with several decades back. Listing what powders you have available, when you have them available, might help with suggestions. 2. Jake, at Rocky Mountain Reloading, sent out a newsletter in December saying that copper and lead have both increased since last April, copper my 15%. I know those markets fluctuate, but these are unusual times and there's an unusual demand for the end product. So I'm not surprised to see the increase in pricing. Unfortunately. That "New Norm" is looking bleak for the time being.
  3. I took it as Mortin . Ibuprofen (Motrin) is what I've heard recommended.
  4. Good on you @pop pop. We visited with a friend today (RN) that had the Moderna vaccine and had no issues.
  5. Good job @Quavodus. Thanks for the data. I'll be glad when I locate some H110. Good powder imho. I always had great luck with Tula primers as well and have shot a bunch of them.
  6. @tercel89 Don't let these guys get you down. There's a hint of evil to 'em! I glanced at your list before work yesterday morning and as best I can recall I pretty much agreed with you. So did a bunch of these folks, but they just enjoy arguing... about anything. LOL
  7. link to pdf from Barnes. I think this will work. https://www.barnesbullets.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/5.56-NATO-16.5in-Barrel.pdf
  8. @DeepSouth I found the pdf but haven't a clue how to post it. Nosler and Barnes list 5.56 data PM to you
  9. LOL. I hear ya. I honestly have no idea at the moment. I'll dig around my notes this weekend. I'll usually go through the PIA process of trimming around 1000 5.56 brass and reprime...then set it aside. Just like I do my .38's and .357. I know I found a load for 5.56 using H335 (one of it's original powders iirc), it's around 25 grs with a 55 gr bullet. And it shoot well for me. But let me look when I have a chance and see what I did and hopefully why I did it. Lord only know...
  10. Welcome aboard!
  11. God Bless him @bigun! He can't catch a break. Prayers certainly continue. Thanks for the update.
  12. Outstanding advice in this thread! I learned handloading from a Hornady 1985-86 version book. No interwebs back then,,, that and asking questions in my local gunshop outside Kansas City. I still use an old Lee single stage press I purchased in the late 1980's, and a Dillon 550 B from the same era. Dillon customer service, as mentioned, is unrivaled. I shoot mostly 9mm, so the Dillon has been set up for that for several years now. That old Lee single stage. Well, I thought I'd replace it with something "better" when it finally wore out. I'm still waiting LOL. I use it for 38 spl. .357, .380, and 5.56 and I use it a lot. I usually deprime and straighten 1000 or so pieces of brass. Expand the case mouth then Hand prime them and set them aside. It kind of spreads the labor out for me. When I'm ready to load all I have to do is drop the powder and seat the bullets. I have 1000 primed .38 and 500 primed .357 still waiting on me and I've been loading and shooting those rounds quite a bit over the past 12 months. PsyOps on myself...maybe...but it works for me. I would highly recommend purchasing a chronograph... sooner rather than later. I picked up a Competition Electronic Chrono several years ago and find it an absolutely essential tool for safe load development. As with everything shooting related, they are probably in short supply right now. It's the nature of our current situation. But it'll change eventually. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1020438152?pid=988434 Welcome to one of the best aspects of firearms Derek !
  13. Way back when prices were "normal", you know, early last year... I found Wolf Gold in .223 to be an excellent value and quality round.
  14. Welcome to TN and to TGO.
  15. Adding to the list! Keeping 'em coming. Thanks!
  16. Said my wife when she learned of my last purchase...
  17. Fuji is spot on imho. I've recent;y viewed some completed auctions on GB as well. People can be desperate. Some of us may be a bit jaded, as we've been through these cycles before, and prepared for such. But folks new to our passion may not have had the benefit of that foresight. I don't have as much empathy for those that have been through the cycles before and simply chose not to prepare. They have to own that. But I think that is a small minority of what we see going on. Of course, there are those simply trying to turn a buck. But I don't really think that's behind what we're seeing here. Folks are anxious, and rightfully so. Just my ever devaluing $0.02 worth
  18. You know how much I love the Survivalist Series brother, especially the first 5 books in the series. My set was so old (paperback, probably Mass Market) they were about to fall apart. HOLY CRAP! They're on Kindle !!! It must have been some time since I checked. Well I've got the first 3 in the series loading now. Thanks my friend! I'll add Johnstone 's Ashes to my list. I know you guys wouldn't let me down!
  19. I read Schlitchter's series based on your recommendation and sadly, I must agree with you 100%. It's damn near like a primer for the unfolding events... I thoroughly enjoy reading about men like Frank Hamer and Jim Cirillo (Stake Out Squad), The Newhall Shooting (Woods), and Hollowway's Raiders (E.R.Walt). Thank you!
  20. OK. I need some suggestions my friends. I'm currently re-reading Col. Cooper's "Another Country". It's not particularly gun, nor survival related, but is one of my favorite books. That man truly lived a life that we'll never know because of time and circumstances. So, What are you guys reading? @hipower and @Grayfox54? Jamie
  21. The 158 gr plated RMR bullets with 6.5 grs of AA#2 and 8.0 grs AA#5 worked out nicely. I was able to keep them on paper (1/2 sheet printer paper) at 25 yards... it'd help if I could shoot a bit better LOL, but the rounds are nice!
  22. Please share your load data and impressions my friend. 3.4 to 3.5 gr under a 9mm 147 should run in the low 900's for fps according to my notes. 2.8 grs AmSel under a 158 gr lead (ours dropped at 160) is a soft shooting and accurate .38 spl round, but I haven't chronoed them yet. My little LCR loves!
  23. AmSel is one of my favorite 147 gr 9mm powders. As a matter of fact I filled my hopper with it today and loaded up some 147 gr Hi-Tek bullets from Hoosiers. I plan to give them a run tomorrow. 3.5 grains is what I had in my notes from previous loads, so I'm sticking with that. I also loaded up some more .357's with AA#5 using the 8.0 gr load @Hozziementioned. The best part about working up loads is shooting them
  24. Glad things are improving Robert! Prayers continue Good Sir!
  25. Welcome Home
