  1. Thanks Ted.   I can't take credit for anything...I doubt I've ever had an "original thought" in my life. :pleased:   We have shrubbery and plants, as well as raised beds around ours, and they really aren't that noticeable, especially from the street. At least the neighbors have never said anything...   People are pretty clever in hiding theirs and there are tons of You Tube vids on the subject.   Let us know what you come up with. I'm always looking to improve.
  2. If something strikes my J Frame hard enough to actuate that 10-12 pound trigger then I have other things to worry about. The laws of physics do apply to concealed carry my friend.   As long as you aren't violating Rule # 3 you're GTG.
  3. LOL. Not really friend. I've used Hip Grips since the mid 1980's. They are actually a very secure method of carry and offer excellent concealment. My Father carried a S&W Model 10 using them a long time ago.
  4. Dolomite.   Darn Dude! I'm glad you're Ok and I really appreciate your sharing this. For me and a shooting Buddy, it couldn't be more timely.   We "harvested" four 5 gallon buckets of lead from an indoor range recently. We wore masks, work gloves and I wore a sweat shirt. I was covered in lead dust by the time we were through. And I showered as soon as I got home...but the exposure even then was disconcerting for me.   I plan to cast my own, and of course will do so outdoors...but extra precautions will definitely be taken.   Thanks for the insight and suggestions Dolomite.
  5. I've seen photos of the type of setup you're describing KaNuckles.   They were using small solar panels and low volume, but low power intensive, pumps.   I can't recall if it was Geoff Lawton or Paul Wheaton, but I've read them discussing passive water systems on inclines. Of course all would depend on your acreage and slope...and they were using daisy-chained ponds.   I'm stuck in suburbia and have to figure work-a-rounds for what I have. I do a lot of watering using 5 gallon buckets and water containers with spouts as our garden is uphill from our barrels. But elevating the barrels on cinder blocks help.   I really like your ideas and think the system you describe would be very nice to have.
  6. Actually MEN has some good info in it, and it wasn't always so darned left leaning. :2cents: We use rainwater catchment for our raised beds. It's amazing the difference in the plants growth and vitality using rainwater vs tap water. The setup is affordable and simple. I do need to add a few more barrels this spring. We've been having some long dry stretches the past few summers.
  7. I've had my TN permit since I moved here in Jan '06. I carried via reciprocity on my MS permit (I received it in 1990) until I established residency. I also had a FL non-resident permit when I moved here, because of the increased number of states accepting it...at that time...over the MS permit. Since TN has such broad reciprocity I let the FL permit lapse.
  8.   Thank you.   Absolutely, as well as succession plant.   I've done the "Three Sisters" and grew the best butternut squash and beans ever....the corn...not so great.    Many plant combination/companion arrangements help cut down on pests and really do assist or help each other. And with our limited space helps our production. We haven't used any pesticides for a few years now, just to see how we would do, and we've been pleasantly surprised. And setting up the beds in 3x4', to 4x4'  (to x12') really makes them easy to work.     This is a link to "a" guide, but I'm sure there are many other folks could suggest. http://www.ghorganics.com/page2.html   A few square feet or a couple of buckets like folks have suggested will get you started. Be careful though...gardening is a "gateway drug" to prepping. :pleased:
  9. I've had no issues at all with mag primers in my 9mm reloads.   During the last "phase of madness" I purchased 5000 Wolf small pistol mag primers. I actually prefer them to standard Wolf SP primers now.   I initially dropped the load by 10%...checked for overpressure signs, and worked back up to about 5% less than my initial load.   Unless you're running near max loads I wouldn't be concerned.
  10. Welcome Home. Glad you made it.   I've made that drive a time or two. At least if you drive 80 across Nebraska there's a tree...Kansas...not so much...   Let us know when you're settled in and ready to do some shooting.
  11. Unfortunately it's the "new" reality.   Good link OS. And apparently DHS is adding another 21.6 million rounds to the 1.6 billion it already has coming down the pike...   I'm thinking I don't like this "new" reality very much.       btw...I got the exact same cancellation for the AK mags. But I wasn't counting on them, nor surprised. But I sure do hate being told I can't have or do something through Government interference. Free market? I can deal with that.
  12. I work every other weekend. But if I'm not scheduled for work, I would definitely be interested in attending.   I already know BrasilNuts..but that wouldn't stop me from going. :pleased:
  13. BN is right. It's hard to beat ORSA for the money. Good folks as well.   Rumor has it they will be expanding the rifle range and the "plinking" range.   The primary rifle range is 50-200 yards. They have a 1000 yd range as well.
  14. I generally do...And that my friend is why I carry a copy of the statute next to my permit.   Unfortunately not all Peace Officers are aware of the law, and the implications of the cert. Greater clarity in the law, and removing the need for certification would make it a non-issue.
  15.     You got it OS.   I have several well made saps from Boston Leather, and a couple of custom made ones.   Carrying a collapsible baton like an ASP (as the current law allows with a cert)  just isn't the same... nor does it serve the same purpose.
  16. Good grief...that's expensive .22...but I understand, when you need it, you need it...   It's gonna be a long haul...   :2cents:
  17.     Same here.   I've posted it before, but I set up and got a Baton course going in order receive my "cert" and comply with the TN Statute on this.
  18. Thanks for the heads up!   E-mails sent!   I also sent an info e-mail with links to a bunch of folks I know, encouraging them to write - call - or e-mail as well.   I've lawfully carried a handgun daily for well over 20 years, and it's always boggled my mind at the restrictions placed on bladed tools.   We have way more than enough infringements on our God Granted and Constitutionally Protected Rights. It's Great to see someone in office working to protect those Rights.
  19. LOL.   Yer right Brother.   I think I might even try out my new reloads prior to shooting a match with them next time. But my untested reloads are always great malfunction clearance practice drills. :yuck:
  20. Unfortunately I have to work, but I'll be there in spirit.   My Thanks to all that attend. :usa:
  21. No ice or snow? Guaranteed?     LOL   I'm seriously considering shooting it. I haven't shot IPSC/USPSA in about 15 years...but after our IDPA snow day match last Saturday and not falling on my butt...I think I'd like to give it a try.   The stages look like they'd be fun as well.   Thanks for keeping the round count manageable.
  22. If you e-mail Berry's with specific questions I think you'll find them extremely helpful.   I have used various 9mm bullets from them, e-mailed them several times and always received a prompt, and helpful reply. Great Folks and excellent customer service from my experiences.   :2cents:
  23. I was in Turkey Creek (K-Town) Walmart around noon.   They had about 25 boxes of .40 S&W, 10-12 boxes of 45 acp and several bulk pack 20 gauge shotshells...nothing I needed. But at least the shelves weren't completely barren.
  24.     I believe in a free market economy as much as the next conservative fellow, and that sucks...but I am just as incredulous that someone would pay that much for a mag....   My hard earned and taxed to death dollars go to folks with integrity. And they are out there.   :2cents:
  25. Keep 'em coming folks.   I just started "By force of Patriots" and it looks pretty good so far.   And I'm waiting for the next installment of the Tate series... :pleased:
