Zero to Five Foot Gunfighting Oct 25-26
Cruel Hand Luke replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
Just a quick reminder, this one is coming up in October.... This class is built around dealing with problems that become lethal at 3 arms length and closer. Many people think that merely having a gun with them will solve all their problems....they never consider what might happen if the other guy does not give them the opportunity and distance to get the gun out.... We cover how and when to create distance and when NOT to create distance. Sometimes you WANT to be dug in like a tick. We cover using your hands to make the opening to access your gun or knife and to prevent him from accessing his gun or knife and when to go for yours...or go for his..... We cover shooting on the move...because standing still and shooting it out at 2 arms length when the other guy starts the fight is a recipe for getting shot to pieces...and it is tested with airsoft guns against live opponents, not just paper.... We cover solving grounded problems. If you end up on the ground do you have the skills to get back up? Can you access your weapons while mounted...and being punched? Can you protect yourself, gain dominant position and access your weapons? These are all things we cover in this class. This is probably my favorite class to teach, so come on out and join us and improve your survivability when things are close. -

I might have a couple of folks for you..... -
Any one else here going? I'm shooting on Thursday...all 15 stages in one day. I know Hognut will be there, but are any other TGOers going to be there?
-
IF this happened it likely would be like the Streetsweeper and USAS12 when they were moved to NFA in the 1990s......you register it tax free. Tax gets paid if you ever sell it just like current NFA stuff. As to whether this is even a real possibility? Who knows. I just see where this could be the next "boogeyman" that the anti gun folk go after if there is a high profile shooting involving one and I don't know that there would be enough support on our side to keep it from getting sacrificed in the name of avoiding other restrictions.....if all 100 million gunowners would just say "NO"....then nothing restrictive legislation wise would happen...ever.....but we all know that ALL 100 million gunowners are not in agreement...
-
And unfortunately the first time some nutcase uses an "assault pistol" to shoot up a school or his workplace then these may well also get moved to NFA status........ Oh and I have a Sig 556P with brace ...but I'm at work right now so can't post a pic.

Sep 20-21 Pistol Gunfighting Chattanooga
Cruel Hand Luke replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Training Discussions
This one is coming up in about a month.... If you are looking for the next step after you got your Handgun Carry Permit and want a class that will teach you how to actually deal with criminal assault instead of how to shoot a bullseye match then this class is for you. If you are an experienced gun carrier this class will teach you how to recognize impending criminal assault before it happens. And no matter your level it will help smooth out your draw stroke and get you on target faster and make you a faster more accurate shooter. This will be the last offering of this class in this area for 2014 so come on out and increase your odds on the street. -
Close Range Gunfighting 5 : ZERO TO FIVE FEET GUNFIGHTING October 25-26, 2014 Price : $350 Chattanooga, Tennessee Instructor: Randy Harris This revolutionary class focuses on integrating the pistol into the fight at zero to five feet. This is what some trainers call "The Hole" and their entire perspective is to "Get Out Of The Hole". We don't worry about "getting out of the hole" because the reality of it is that you won't. Instead, we get comfortable in there...we set up a nice cozy camp there and learn to thrive where other men fear to walk. We make the other guy want to get out of the hole he finds himself in as we start to rip his head right off his shoulders. This will be a very thorough study on how to prevail and not get killed at this distance interval. We will do a great deal of technical work to ingrain the correct skills and then work them extensively via force on force exercises. You have never sen training and information like this before. While I do want to make sure guys are in reasonable condition to handle this, you don't need to be a hard core athlete to do this. We will play hard. . . . but within reason for the attendees we normally have in class. SOME TOPICS: Dealing against the drawn gun. What are all the options? We will look at everything from running away, to drawing and killing him, stabbing him with a knife, to disarming him and shooting him with his own gun. Dealing against the drawn knife. Both from "hold up" type situations to actual attacks. You will deal with them with the gun in hand (this one is really cool), and with empty hands, leading into a draw and shots as part of the fight. Dealing with a fight in hallways, elevators, phone booths and cars. All empty handed, and with one leading to the other. Dealing with more than one bad guy. How to position and maneuver to deny them the advantage, as well as how to immediately escalate and take them out. The combined use of various tools such as knife and gun, knife and light, light and gun, gun and stick. Not only the how, but the why as well. These and other topics will make this one of the hottest classes available to civilian operators. This course requires prior attendance at an intermediate level Suarez International Pistol class. DURATION: 2 days TIME: 9:00AM to 5:00PM CENTRAL AMMUNITION: Approximately 250 rounds (Minimum) and 400 (Minimum) good quality biodegradable pellets. NO STEEL PELLETS YOU NEED TO BRING: Spare clothing appropriate to the weather. Lunch, snacks and water (minimum of 1 gallon per person) for the entire day. Baseball or other style hat, sun screen, bug repellent, allergy medication (if needed), chair (if you have a problem with sitting on the ground, note taking paper/pen/pencil and a boo boo kit (band aids, gauze pads, antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment and tape). REQUIREMENTS: Pistol, holster, at least two magazines, and the usual range safety gear (ear and eye protection). Bring an airsoft pistol with the necessary gear (pellets, facemask, etc. - all of it is available at http://www.onesourcetactical.com) NOTES: Range is located 40 minutes SW of Chattanooga and 20 minutes from Trenton Ga . It is located where TN, GA and AL all come together on the map. Range is on CENTRAL time. AR-15 Not Protected by Second Amendment
Cruel Hand Luke replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
They will never admit that because then the next question is "at what point has it become tyrannical"?....................and the next question is "At what point has the tyranny risen to the level that resistance is called for"? Those are some very sobering questions for a national political discourse...so there is NO WAY they will EVER admit that. -

Open Carry... your thoughts.
Cruel Hand Luke replied to TNMP40's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I'll wade into this......I CC 99.9% of the time. The .1% I OC is when I'm doing something around the house or maybe just driving around doing things that don't require me to get out of the car. I'm not out to make political statement or "spook the herd". I tend to keep it covered up and avoid problems....out of sight out of mind. With regards to the "slowness" of CC.....drawing a gun is a skill set that, like any other skill set, is a combination of actions that need to be practiced to be done effectively , efficiently and quickly. It does not just "happen". You have to know how to clear the cover garment, grip the pistol, lift and drive it to the target. People who actually practice this can draw so fast you cannot see it. It looks like they wave their hand and a gun appears. I shoot IDPA matches(and carry in everyday life) with a glock 34 in an IWB (INSIDE the waistband ) holster covered with a closed front garment......yet my draw to first shot time is usually in the .70 to .90 of a second time frame on an idpa target at 5 yards or less. So I don't buy the whole "CC is too slow". EVERYTHING is slow...if you don't devote time to practicing it. The bigger issue really is awareness and picking up on what is happening and doing something BEFORE you get so deep in the hole that whether you live or die is determined by whether your draw is faster from OC or CC.....most victims say the same thing after an assault/robbery...."I never saw it coming ...I looked up and there they were".... that is probably not where you want to be if the determined BG sees your gun before you see him..... And the generally accepted # is that about 10% of police officers killed are killed with their own guns. Police carry their guns openly and because of that they use a retention holster and are trained in disarms and weapon retention. How many typical OC guys have been trained in disarms and weapon retention? Or even carry in a retention holster? So carry however you wish, but at least be educated about the issues. -

Mountaineer Classic IDPA this weekend?
Cruel Hand Luke replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Well the slide stop problem was permanently remedied by switching it out to the standard one... Unfortunately 3 mistakes on 3 different stages (a procedural, an extra reload due to a miss and a missed metal target causing a miss on a mover) cost me 3 places....so a 2nd place turned into a 5th..... such is life. I learn some new valuable lesson at each match...just wish they were less painful..... :wall: On the bright side....If I had been shooting Expert ESP (which is what I'm classified as in ESP and use the same gun in bothESP and SSP ) I'd have won that class.....hey, I have to look for the ray of sunshine where I can find it.....Unfortunately I signed up for every match this year in MA SSP so I either sink or swim in the deepest end of the pool...... I'll see you guys at the Music City Cup.... -

I just realized we have the wrong street # on in the original post..... It is 763 County Rd 332 NOT 322......my bad..... I apologize profusely for any inconvenience caused by that typo. While most everyone who comes to these has trained with me before and knows where the range is, it would help to have had the right road # for those who have not. All I can do is apologize and make sure I proofread the listing more thoroughly next time.....If you were coming to this and could not find it and were unable to reach me by phone please PM me. -

Any baton training classes in Chattanooga
Cruel Hand Luke replied to Junkstack's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I took the same class with Prag back in....wow...2006 I guess...where has the time gone? Like he said, he contacted a gentleman in Knoxville who was certified to certify people and put it together and we had about 6 or 8 people come to a class in Maryville. I drove up from Chattanooga. I'm certain if you do a little leg work and find an instructor and then list it on TGO you'd have several people interested in attending and make it worth while for the instructor.
