  1. The murder statutes are 100% reciprocal....If you get killed somewhere that does not allow guns , you'll still be dead in all the places that do allow guns....   If you find yourself somewhere that it is "good manners" to disarm and you get killed there because something unforeseen happened and you are killed by someone who is  not quite so good mannered while you were disarmed you are still dead everywhere else too.....   If it were me (which it isn't) I'd carry and skip the beer. Anyone asks why I'm not drinking I deflect that by telling 'em I'm taking antibiotics for something.
  2. Would you ask them first if carrying a pocket knife into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a handkerchief into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a multi tool into their house was OK?   Would you ask first  if carrying your cell phone into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying your wallet into their house was OK?   Would you ask first if carrying a Tourniquet into their house was OK?   The gun is no different than any of the other EDC items I carry around in everyday life. The gun would only ever even be an issue if you pulled it out, or if you told them about it........You are not there to commit crime so the fact that you have it has no effect on other people...unless you need to use it to defend yourself (and them) from a home invasion that happens while you are there.....in that case they'll probably be glad you had it.....   Having said that.....If you plan to be drinking then leaving it in the car would be the best course of action.
  3. The summer meeting of the TN/GA/AL Suarez Int training group will be held on Saturday July 25th! This is open to all.  We will be covering pistol skills , specifically close range , get off the X and get quick hits on the target using alternative indexing methods .   Instructor: Randy Harris   Subject : Alternative Indexing Methods in close quarter shooting. Date : Saturday July 25  Time: 9AM-3PM CENTRAL TIME Location: The usual place- Phillips/Edwards Farm 763 County Rd 332 Pisgah Alabama (about 35 minutes SW of Chattanooga) Price : $60 PAY BY CASH OR CHECK AT CLASS. What you need to bring: Pistol (revolvers are welcome too), at least 2 spare pistol magazines (or speedloaders if you plan to party like it is 1899) and at least 150 rounds of ammo.....
  4. At the Carolina Cup a shooter (who was in the running to win his class and division) failed to engage a target and took the resultant penalties (5 seconds for failure to neutralize and probably 5 seconds for the "misses").   He argued that since the SO did not specifically point out that specific target during the walk through that the walk through was "faulty" even though no one else in his squad who went before him failed to engage the target.  They tell you how many targets there are and how many minimum rounds must be fired during the walk through. The SO said that was not grounds for a reshoot. The shooter took it to the Match Director who said that not seeing a target is not a reason for a reshoot. He then appealed that to the Area Coordinator who over ruled the Match director (in clear conflict with IDPA rules) and the shooter got a reshoot and ended up winning the class and division since he was no longer saddled with 10 seconds worth of penalties for his dumb mistake earlier.... a lot of people thought this was pretty dirty and felt like the 2nd place shooter (who should have been 1st) got hosed.    So essentially "if you argue long and hard enough to enough people you will eventually get your way...especially if you are a sponsored shooter" is the message being sent. But per IDPA rules you do not get a reshoot for making mental mistakes on a stage....if you did, then IDPA owes me about 50 reshoots.... :D
  5. It would....but they'll never do it.....
  6. Good luck with that......

  8. Just about a month to go on this one!   If you are not familiar with Dayton TN it is about 40 minutes from Chattanooga and about an hour and 15 minutes  from Knoxville and 2 1/2 hrs form Nashville and an hour and a half from Cookeville.    This particular class is the place to get started right (or the place to get some more directed practice and coaching specific to the combative use of the pistol for the more experienced shooter) . It is our basic level combative pistol class. It is not a basic level NRA safety class, or a permit class,  it is a class where you will actually learn to fight with your carry pistol and employ it from concealment to solve problems that cannot be otherwise solved with words or awareness.    We will spend a good deal of time on learning how to deal with unknown persons who approach you on the street and on making attempts to close space and victimize us more difficult. Ideally we will convince them we are not worth the effort so as to hopefully not have to shoot them, but if our efforts are unsuccessful in persuading them to pick another victim , then we need to be able to win the fight....NOW.   This weekend is a thorough study in repelling criminal violence. So if you got your permit  but want to take your skills in awareness, deescalation and employing the gun to resolve lethal criminal violence to the next level, then this is the class you are looking for.     Hope to see you there!
  9. If you keep it concealed then the the only time your gun will be an issue there is if you pull it out to  use it to defend yourself which comes under the purview of TCA 39-17-1322.
  10. I SERIOUSLY doubt there has been a rash of permit holders getting into fistfights in bars and "after hour clubs" in Clarksville....it is in all likelihood illegally armed hoodlums getting into fights.      A math word problem.....   If two hoodlums get in a fight and one shoots and kills the other, and the shooter gets arrested and incarcerated how many hoodlums are left walking the street? Answer? Two less than previous.    I don't see the problem here. If MORE of them would kill each other then there'd be LESS of them victimizing law abiding people.
  11. Reminder!!! This is coming up this coming weekend!!!! Still have a few spots open in this class.
  12. Just a little over a week to go!!!!   I'm off to the Carolina Cup IDPA match this weekend then we'll be rockin' it in Lewisburg the next weekend! So if you are still on the fence about this class get signed up and don't miss this opportunity in Middle Tennessee!
  13. I assumed you did Dolomite.   Being as this is the internet and as such the written word has no body language or voice inflection and it is easy to misunderstand postings, and I might have misunderstood yours, but my comment was not directed at you . It was a commentary on the "typical" HCP holder who can't remember the last time he actually carried or remember whether he left his gun in the sock drawer or the underwear drawer.....
  14. I do some dry fire and manipulations every day. Shoot IDPA matches pretty much monthly (shot 15 last year) . Teach an average of about 1 1/2 classes per month (normally 18 to 24 per year)  where I demo the drills for the students, and I attend classes from other instructors (4 this year so far).  But I'm not exactly  the typical "I only carry when I travel or when I go to a bad part of town" CCW guy.....
  15. Some people aren't going to like that......................................
  16. Was that drill done with live fire or dry?
  17. GT Distributors in Rossville GA.    That is a good price for a model 65.
  18. Gross motor skills work best....especially under stress...be that match stress or life and death stress.  I'd rather be gripping the slide with more than just an index finger and thumb. Like TGO David said, I fall in the "come over the top behind the ejection port and with an over hand grip tug the slide to the rear" camp. But honestly...how that guy manipulates his slide has no effect on me. If he likes it that way then rock on.
  19. TWO WEEKS TO GO on this one! Looking forward to this Mid Tennessee class and to seeing some TGO members in class!
  20. And same back at you. I hope you bring home a big ol' trophy from Mississippi.
  21. Anyone here shooting the Carolina Cup IDPA match next week?
  22. I don't think it was just that day.....   just kidding D...  :P
  23. Reminder ! This one is coming up in a little over a month!
  24. Thanks Prag....and thanks for the help with keeping things moving.    Small groups of motivated individuals are a pleasure to teach because you can delve deeper into some things that just get glossed over in the larger classes. Also the students get more reps of all the drills and you can see the improvement come faster. I had a great time (other than the oppressive heat) and look forward to working with you guys again!
