  1. Muzzle direction...finger placement.....2 rules broken.....   If he had only broken 1 rule and merely pointed at himself without pulling the trigger he'd not have gotten shot.    If he had only broken 1 rule and merely pulled the trigger with the gun pointed anywhere but at himself he'd not have gotten shot.   But since he broke 2 rules and pulled the trigger with it pointed at himself.....he predictably got shot. Alarmingly simple how that happens.
  2. Not to be a jackass, but if we look at exactly what I said.....if you    1. Keep fingers out of trigger guard 2. Don't point it at yourself 3. Make sure clothing is not in your holster (or maybe I should have worded it differently and said clothing not impeding the gun)....   .....then it is pretty much impossible to shoot yourself. And I stand by that.   You countered with several instances where clothing DOES get in the way and where you point it at yourself...... I holster my gun every day without pointing it at myself and with fingers and clothing clear of the gun....it's not that difficult if you simply pay attention and do not practice sloppy gunhandling.    I've been carrying a gun in public concealed for over 20 years....not carrying it once or twice in a 20 year span when I go to a bad neighborhood or other such silliness that the casual gun carrier does, but probably an average of 360 days a year for 20 years in all manner of clothing, weather , environments, threat levels, etc. I've shot over 200 pistol matches and taught over 200 professional firearm classes ranging from TN Handgun carry classes to Advanced pistol classes involving weak handed only access of the pistol and weak handed only reholstering.....In that time I have seen literally THOUSANDS (not exaggerating) of reholstering reps.    And in all of that time I see the same things over and over....if your finger or clothing are not on the trigger and the gun is not pointed AT YOU when you reholster then it is all but impossible to shoot yourself and if you DO shoot your self it was in every case due to breaking a bare minimum of TWO safety rules. You have to point it at something you are not willing to destroy (your body) and you have to either touch the trigger with one (or more ) of your own digits or a foreign object. That is the ONLY way it happens. Something has to actuate the trigger while it is pointed at you....TWO safety rules broken at same time.    They don't just go off by themselves. If your holster can pull the trigger then you need to get a new holster and get rid of that one. There are plenty of good quality holsters that will not pull the trigger. Your clothing does not have a mind of its own or the ability to take willful action...it just hangs where it hangs. So you CAN outsmart your clothing and keep it from getting in the trigger guard as you reholster. You just have to take the time to look before shoving the gun in. As to catching falling loaded guns...let them fall. Modern guns are drop safe so let them fall. One of the most dangerous things you can do is to try to catch one....and I'm baffled at how someone can stick their thumb in a trigger guard while reholstering properly.... And you absolutely can (barring extreme obesity) reholster in the 5 o'clock position without pointing the muzzle at yourself.  And there are plenty of people out there who can and do reholster safely everyday without removing the holster. Agreeing with me or not does not change the facts.
  3. How many rules is this guy breaking?????   http://www.gunnuts.net/2016/04/13/anatomy-of-an-accident/
  4. The only way that happens is to break at least 2 safety rules at the same time....   Treat all guns as if they are loaded Don't point at something you are not willing to destroy, pay for or go to jail for. Keep finger off trigger until your gun is indexed on target Be aware of target and what is beyond.   You really have to break a MINIMUM of AT LEAST 2 rules to shoot yourself. Guns don't just "go off". They respond to a trigger press...the way they were DESIGNED TO WORK. If you keep the booger hook off the bang switch and don't point it at yourself and make sure your clothing is not down in your holster before you holster then it is pretty much close to impossible to shoot yourself.
  5. Pray for good weather....you'd be surprised at how effective that can be sometimes.....
  6. Just a quick reminder...this one is coming up in just a little over a month. We still have 6 spots available.
  7. Just over 2 weeks to go!!  Just owning a shotgun and being able to efficiently fight with one are 2 different things. This class bridges that gap between possession and proficiency.
  8. DATE ON THIS CLASS HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JULY 30-31
  9. THIS CLASS DATE HAS BEEN CHANGED TO JUNE 25-26

  13. We will most likely run it again in the fall.
  14. ADVANCED GUNFIGHTING AUGUST 13-14, 2016 DAYTON, TENNESSEE Price : $350 INSTRUCTOR: RANDY HARRIS This course is pure shooting at all ranges. We will spend the morning of the first day polishing up our pistol shooting fundamentals and then spend the remainder of the weekend taking our skills to higher levels. This is a physically demanding course that builds upon what you have already trained in other pistol classes. Course material includes methods for increasing speed and accuracy. In this class, we will do some long range shooting . . . like 75 yards and 100 yards! We will teach you to hit at all possible distances. We will also point shoot from belly to belly distance, while ignoring the use of sights both station stationary, on the move and on the run. We will study the various Threat-Focused Point Shooting systems (Point Shooting) as well as Sight-Focused Shooting Systems and their seamless integration and applications in a total Close Range Gunfighting program. We will shoot from field expedient positions (including one handed, behind cover, etc.). We'll examine special problems such as confined area shooting, shooting in crowded environments and other difficult problems. All attendees should have a high level of skill and a reflexive understanding of safety measures. There is little or no lecturing and the majority of the time is trigger time. Come join us in this exciting and cutting edge training event!   CLASS AND RANGE DETAILS   DURATION: 2 days   TIME: 8:30AM to 4:30PM   AMMUNITION: Approximately 500 rounds (Minimum)   RANGE & GEAR REQUIREMENTS: Modern defensive pistol and a holster specifically made for that pistol and designed to be worn on the belt. 15. Thanks for the reviews guys!
  16. Yes, that class definitely focuses on the "Fight" part of the FBI "Run , Hide, Fight" triad. Thanks for the review !
  17. This is still a little ways off, but we are half full already....there are 6 spots still available. (I am adjusting the # in the original post as I get deposits in)
  18. Don't expect "Hollywood" reactions to being shot with a pistol...ANY pistol . If you shoot someone you may well have to shoot them several times with a handgun to change their channel. Some people are just tough SOBs and will not stop fighting until they are dead. Plan accordingly.
  19. ONE WEEK TO GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  20.   And yet this tragedy still happened.....
  21. So.....studying THIS event is not of any merit?...but studying fights pre 1900 is where it is at? Your post is somewhat confusing.....while I too find studying ALL gunfights I can get reliable info on no matter what the era useful,  there is not any more value to studying something pre 1900 than something that happened in 1986. So I'm not sure exactly the point you are trying to make.   For that matter a horse probably will get you where you want to go...but  an automobile is far more efficient. And prior to 1940 there was no more reliable method of testing for diabetes than tasting the patient's urine....but no sane doctor is still gargling piss in 2016.    But maybe you're right...maybe we should dismiss those folks who have spent a majority of their life actually educating themselves in all manner of armed and unarmed conflict, scientific method research, modern understanding of anatomy with regards to terminal ballistics, and running the gun at the ragged edge of human ability.... and instead simply read a book about the old west.........
  22. Reminder............ this one is coming up in a month !  If you plan to use a shotgun for home or business defense then this class will teach you the skills you need to prevail.
  23. That can be a thread all to itself......CULTURE makes a difference.   We see that in the FBI report of offenders who kill cops. The offender has grown up in a constant state of struggle and is often in a state of combat with victims and other predators. He has been arrested by the time he is 12 and carried a weapon since he was 14 . On the other hand the officers that many departments want to hire may have never even been in a fist fight because that would have gotten them in trouble in school. When those two cultures clash guess who has the advantage....    Also a quick anecdotal culture story.....at NTI (National Tactical Invitional) in 2007 I was talking to one of the judges as we waited for the next FOF venue to be ready.....he told me he has been a participant and or judge at all 17 NTI events and he could normally tell where someone was from by how they reacted in the scenarios. He said that people from the Northeast were VERY hesitant to pull a gun . He would just about have to zap 'em with a cattle prod to get them to shoot someone. People from the Southwest would normally give you 1 warning and then shoot. People from the South...they'd shoot you without even talking to you.  I told him that was largely cultural. Many in the South are of Scots-Irish descent and back when their ancestors came over they moved inland to the Appalachians and if someone stole their cattle they wouldn't travel back to the magistrate and wait for them to do something, they'd gather their brothers and cousins and go get their cattle back......whereas the northeast was largely inhabited by folks who were more in line with "following rules" and lived in more urban areas or areas that the "crown" could easier control as opposed to the southern frontier. Many of us are also descended from folks who chose to fight for the Confederacy against what they saw as an invading army in the 1860s and the blood of those people still flows in our veins. When it is time to talk it is time to talk... but when it is time to fight...it is not time to talk. There is time to talk and time to fight but there is not a whole lot of overlap between the two.  He said he'd never really thought of it that way but it made sense.....
  24. Gordon Kahl and Posse Comitatus are names you don't hear much anymore.... for those wondering "who?".....   https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gordon_Kahl
  25.  Not in this one. I think you might be thinking about the North Hollywood bank robbery.
