Guess I should have been more specific. A wall with guards THAT SHOOT Glenn

Close the border. I mean really close the border with a large fence and armed guards and you mostly solve the problem. Plus you create a lot of construction jobs in the process. Glenn

We are viewed as weak because as a nation we are weak. Those in authority don't have the guts to stand for anything. Glenn

Just had to post a picture of my new to me 1925 Mosin after cleaning it up. I got a little too aggressive with the cleaning and left the finish feeling soft, so I decided what the heck and just stripped and refinished it. I uncovered several marks on the stock that I couldn't see before. I am still looking into what they mean. Also ordered a crate of Albanian light ball ammo from Sportsmans guide for $151.47 after a $10 coupon. Now I need to shoot. Glenn

Since i am rather large around the middle, I often have trouble concealing my S&W 910 in a IWB holster. Just not quite enough room in my shirts and pants. I had been thinking about a belly band holster for a while. When I saw them at the gunshow yesterday I picked up a 6" model. Wore it this morning rotated around to shoulder holster position under a short sleeve shirt. I was amazed. Completely concealed and very confortable plus it only takes a few seconds to put on. It usually takes me several minutes to get my IWB holster on, adjusted and concealed. I think I am going to like this, especially for summer. Glenn

Thanks for all the suggestions. I am looking forward to getting it cleaned up and shooting. One other question. Since it has brass fittings that are covered in mill marks, would it be stupid to smooth them up? Not polished but just to remove the grind marks. Glenn

I have been checking out 7.62X54R.net. That is where I read that the numbers should all be in the same typeface. They called what I have "force-matched"It has obviously been refurbed because it gas the hooded sight and the split barrel bands which I believe are not correct. I will start really cleaning it up tomorrow. This afternoon I am covered up with honey-do work since I forgot our anniversary yesterday. glenn

After a little research I see that while all parts have the same numbers, the numbers are not the same shape as the numbers on receiver, which means they don't really match. i have figured out it is a Izhevsk ex-Dragoon. Glenn

Just got back from the Knoxville Chilhowee Park gun show. Picked up a 1925 91 Mosin. It's a hex receiver. When I started wiping it down I realized that all the serial numbers seem to match. At least the receiver, bolt, and magazine floorplate and butt plate do. Are the numbers anywhere else? If anyone can offer advice on breaking it down to clean the grease off I would appreciate it. Here are a few pictures. I will get some better one's later. PS. I know the bayonet is not on right. That is as far as it will go. Glenn

Saw a guy on tv the other night that has been cleaning up spills in saudia arabia area for 18 years using specially equipped supertankers. He said he has been trying to talk to the Gov. and BP since day 2 and can't even get a meeting. I don't thing the government wants to stop the mess. "Never waste a good crisis" This will be the excuse they need to take over the oil industry. Glenn

Have you seen this story? Mexico anger high as US Border Patrol kills teen - Yahoo! News A group of illegals attacked border patrol agents with rocks. In the process of defending themselves one of the illegals was shot. Now Mexico is all up in arms. Mexican President Felipe Calderon said Tuesday that his government "will use all resources available to protect the rights of Mexican migrants." WTF! What rights!! I don't give a rats rear end whether Mexico likes it or not. STAY HOME Glenn

I am planning to go sat. morning. I will be the really big bald guy looking for a Mosin. Glenn

And I was embarassed because I started the third thread. Glenn

Disclaimer: I've never shot a Springfield It appears the contestants may not have either. At least the one that couldn't hit the 100 yard target. Did any one notice that the rear sight was folded down? I looked it up and the Springfield was sighted at over 500 yards with the sight down. Could that be why he couldn't get on the target? I think the show will be too much about playing the game and not enough about the shooting. The super slow motion video was cool though. Glenn

Sorry. Didn't look far enough down the list. Glenn

Didn't know where to post this. Did anybody watch Top Shot on the history channel? At first I thought it was going to be pretty good. Two teams were competing with a 1903 Springfield, a Mosin Nagant, a M-14 and a Russian SVT-40. But when the competition started it was a Surviver type show with stupid stunts the shooters had to do before shooting. It looks like the show will be more about playing the game than shooting. One high point is some amazing super slow motion video of bullets exiting the guns and impacting the targets. If you saw it, what did you think? Glenn
-
Thanks. I will try to make it to the show. Maybe check out gander mtn too. Glenn

Sounds good. Is there usually decent deals on surplus ammo? I know handgun ammo is usually high at the shows. Glenn

I've been reading this thread and believe I have caught the Mosin fever. Would the upcoming Chilhowee Park show be a good place to start looking? I am thinking a 91/30 would be a good place to start. I am not going to have a lot to spend. Any tips on what to look for? I don't really have much experience buying long guns. I'me not really concerned about how the thing looks, more about how it shoots. Glenn
