  1. I've been lucky enough to not really *need* to hunt and gather growing up. This is kind of interesting, I don't think it grows in MN but I could definitely be wrong about that. For gathering, wild berries (blueberries, mulberries, strawberries, raspberries) and morel mushrooms are about the extent of my experience.
  2. @Blitzen how'd it go?
  3. It might be a matter of making the sailors wonder if this boat zooming out is the boat with the True Believers and a payload of HE... Big hole at the waterline will ruin your day.
  4. Long guns can legally be purchased out of state, but only from an FFL and provided the FFL follows the laws of both States. So, someone from NY can't legally go up to ME to buy that banned gun they've always wanted. But if they saw a great deal on something that was legal for them to purchase back home, and the state where they were had no prohibition on selling to folks from their state, they're good to go.
  5. Well, it probably costs more. That's an improvement for the seller...
  6. That's just good general life advice right there. Is this the kind of high-pressure system that you need to take care to not inject fuel into yourself through your skin? If so, probably be sure you don't do that...
  7. VX-I and VX-II went away maybe two years ago? I don't remember for sure. They've been replaced by the "Freedom" line, which supposedly is more -II than -I.
  8. I wrote with the assumption that the FBI background check was still being performed with the 4473. That background check transaction is only valid for (I think) 30 days from the date the check is submitted. So even if the Feds think everything is hunky-dorey and the only holdup is on the State side, if it goes longer than that 30-day window the gun can't be transferred with that first Federal background check paperwork. A new 4473 would have to be competed and a new Federal background check submitted.
  9. I can't help on the TN-specific aspects of this, but on the Federal side your background check expires after (I think) 30 days. So, even if you can jar something loose at the State, it might not be worth much at this point (or soon, at least).
  10. Given their (clothing, obviously,) rifles and that sweet watch, I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they're somehow associated with '80s Afghanistan. Mujahideen, Soviets having fun, Americans of some stripe, etc.
  11. I desperately hope it involves John Candy.
  12. One word: Conversion barrels.
  13. Right, and it's not like either is going to have any good times in their near future.
  14. I'm not sure if I feel worse for the German stuck on the Russian front, or the Russian soon to be shipped back to(wards) Germany...
  15. Absolutely. It's a matter of finding all the data points you can, comparing them against each other, and deciding which are more credible/ and applicable than the others.
  16. I would say it's worth X minus risk factor, minus hassle factor.
  17. Without trying to be smart, what did you trade for it? It's worth at least that much to you... You could approach potentially getting rid of this revolver with that in mind: Would you take whatever is on offer (cash or trade) for whatever it is you originally gave for this Ruger?
  18. I wouldn't say they're trying to screw you, but it shouldn't be the only source. GunBroker is another great resource, but (especially with guns for which condition is a major factor) it can also have its shortcomings. A gun in great condition might have terrible photos, or some condition issues might not be apparent. There might only be one or two competed auctions returned. If so, do they represent the high end of the market, the low end, the middle? Also, it's a national audience so unless you plan to actually sell on GunBroker you need to take into account the fact that your local market might not be accurately reflected by GunBroker auctions. (For better or worse.)
  19. Yeah, if you do decide to go the Blue Book minus 15% route, let me know, will ya?
  20. If you post here what you're interested in valuing, we could take a crack at it. A million monkeys, with a million type writers, and 30 seconds. We'll get you numbers, for sure! Seriously though, you could also call your local shops and see if they'd be willing to help you out with finding a reasonable valuation.
  21. @GlockSpock do you all have access to County/ State or private foresters down there? They could tell you if there's enough value in your specific trees to make it worth messing with. They should also know who's going to be buying that kind of thing in your neck of the woods. Also, make sure the outfit doing the taking down is licensed/ bonded/ insured. Not just by asking them, actually call the company and verify that the tree cutter all paid up (and will be when they're doing the work). You don't want to get into a situation where there's damage, and you have no recourse. Also, because an outfit that has and has maintained insurance probably doesn't need to use it a whole lot, ya know?
  22. Another option might be to get him a gift card to a local shop for the (ordered) gun and some ammo to open as his "gift." Maybe not as fun, but you won't pay a semi-panic markup, and (as mentioned) you'll support a local shop while giving yourself some recourse in the unlikely event you need it. The gift card might not be necessary. Call your local shops to see who will order it, how much they'll charge, their delivery timeline, and how they'd like to handle the payment side of the transaction (since it's a gift).
  23. If you're putting in equipment to cut concrete, be sure to include glasses and a mask (when you had get them) along with the ear protection, and enough for everyone in the room. Concrete gets unbelievably dusty, and is not something anyone should be inhaling in any amount.
  24. I think (usual disclaimer about uninformed opinion...) that the low number of cases might be partly a result of the measures taken to reduce the spread of the virus. Or, if we had just gone about business as usual we might have seen many more cases than we've had so far.
  25. Guys, I think @alleycat72 is trying to keep deer around, not teenagers.
