Not plugged in, full of limburger.

Thank you for that, I passed it along.

Thanks all. The dogs were in an outdoor enclosure, sounds like the smaller one bolted as he was about to be moved. Not sure if he went over the fence or through a gap between gate and human or what.

One of my sister's two dogs escaped the boarding kennel where they were going to spend an overnight. I'm looking for suggestions on how to find a dog that has run off. So far, she's put out food and water, the dog's bed, a shirt that smells like her near the last place the dog was seen. I also put out a couple of sausage chunks there and suggested she spray a bacon scent bear bomb. (Maybe if he gets hungry hell file his nose...) She's bringing the other dog along to walk and look for the runner. I went and looked around the brush edges for broken twigs and pieces of fur, and other sign. The kennel owner is making signs, my sister has posted to Facebook and contacted animal control, local PD, etc. What are we not thinking of that might work? Thanks in advance for your help, everyone!

Yeah, I've been trying to figure out how to get the bleach in to get the idea out. Of course, I'd be lying if I said I didn't have a new idea of what to do with myself the next time in home alone...

Those fingernails just scream "cowhand."

Modeling clay "snap cap" - Anyone ever used this idea?
TomInMN replied to Ronald_55's topic in General Chat
So this is a gun you already purchased from a third party? That would be a totally different situation from inspecting their inventory. Might be nice if they let you look through your transfer gun there, but certainly not expected. -
A re-worked Howa Mini 1500 or CZ 527. @E4 No More, that's a nice rifle. I'm looking forward to a range report.

I think I'd stop shopping at a place that wouldn't let me check out a firearm (take off the lock, run a snap cap, etc). I guess, if they had a 24-hour, no questions asked, 100% refund policy, that would keep me. -

Put some marker over the "primer" on the snap cap. -
Do you suppose they still made the sailors wear life jackets while on duty?

I'm not sure I'll have much to add to this discussion, but this incident sure does have me thinking. https://www-m.cnn.com/2019/07/30/us/south-carolina-police-shooting-homeowner-simpsonville/index.html?r=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F

Kind of off topic, I guess, so please feel free to peel this off. How does MIM differ (if at all) from casting metal? I'm curious both about the manufacturing process and the strength and appropriate application of the resulting parts. Thanks!

I handled a 45-70 derringer once. The owner had purchased it for fishing in AK. It struck me (as others have mentioned) that it wasn't all that much smaller than something like an SP101 with a 3" barrel. I can't say I find the idea appealing. I'd be interested to compare the numbers on a hot 357 from a 3" barrel vs a 45-70 from a 1/2" barrel. And I'm not convinced that you'd actually get the second shot off, or even have the gun in your hand after the first barrel...

"What? No full auto?? What kind of bull is THAT?!"

If you want it gone but not necessarily dead, hitting the mystery critter with bear spray or mace might be an option. Some are available as a gel, so it might provide a more lasting reminder to stay away. Most aren't super long distance options, so it might take some planning and waiting...

That's what you think. Ever seen a little documentary called "Jurassic Park"?

Since you ask, a suppressor used with a supersonic load can still muffle the sound of the detonation even though it doesn't work on the supersonic crack. It can also add a bit of speed over the same load fired unsuppressed, and a good suppressor added to the right gun/ load combination can actually improve the groups. A suppressor also works to make both the audible and visual signature of the shot more difficult to pin down. As far as the original observation, that someone who primarily intends to shoot 308 subsonic would be better served by 300 blk, I largely agree. When limiting to subsonic loads, the 300 blk case is more efficient and can be had in a smaller, lighter rifle while not giving up any energy to the 308 (again, when both are shot at the same speed).

I'm pretty sure I've travelled all of US2 in MN, not positive though. There are a couple of stretches that I've spent quite a bit of time on. It's about 100 miles south of Canada where you're taking about. You're absolutely right, that big river is pretty small right there. That's what fills me with a sense of wonder, that it becomes such a powerful force from such small beginnings.

That sounds like a wonderful trip! Your grandson is lucky to have you two in his life. Have you all ever considered getting up to the headwaters of the Mississipi? It's a State Park, and a pretty wonderful place. Kind of awe inspiring to see what's there and think about what it becomes... I will say, in my opinion, cross bolt safeties on a lever action are an abomination. Avoid them at all cost.
