  2. I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you yet, @Defender, and I hope it eventually does. As far as hindsight goes, don't beat yourself up too much. It's possible that things could've turned out even worse if you'd met up. I imagine it would be very hard to calmly watch someone walk away with your gun after you've shown them that it's yours, and not theirs, and they disagree. I'm hoping the wheels are just turning slowly on this, and not stopped.
  3. You've had some really great advice so far. Can you tell us how you plan to hunt deer with this gun? (What your expected hunting situations are, or what role you want it to fill.) Everyone's super hot on the Creedmoor rounds because marketing. That's not to take anything away from them, because they're certainly capable, but they're just a really small improvement over existing calibers. The average hunter will realize no benefit by selling a .260 or .243 to pick up a 6.5 or 6 Creedmoor.

  5. Is there a distinction to be made between optimal temperature for brewing and for serving? I don't know enough about coffee to know. I need oil at 325* or so to make french... er, FREEDOM... fries but I don't want my kids touching them right out of the oil. Also, is Jeaux a man or a woman? (Possibly a non-gendered being?) Just curious...

  7. This is the 4" model? From what I understand, you really need the 8-incher before you start turning heads...
  8. If they didn't explain the question (and in this case that explanation should include the reasons one might opt for pistol vs rifle), I'd be inclined to not go back there... Yeah maybe it's not the end of the world, but it's not exactly the wrong frosting on your donut.
  9. @Defender it's possible that the seller thinks you're trying to scam them, but in your shoes I'd go ahead and contact your local field office of BATFE ASAP. Be sure to let them know that you filed a police report originally, followed up with PD now, contacted the seller, and have a screenshot showing serial number and seller's phone number.   10. To be clear, I'm not sure I'd actually plan to meet, either. But arranging a time to meet may keep the gun in the seller's hands for just a bit longer. If you do meet, insist on meeting at the local PD. A seller ignorant of the gun's past should have no problem with that.
  11. Why do you suppose he had that leaf tucked into his belt? Early attempt at body armor?
  12. Give some thought to contacting your local ATF field office immediately and letting them handle it. Tell them exactly what you told us. (Did Metro PD send an officer out to you, or to the seller? That part is not clear to me...) You could also contact the seller and arrange to meet in the next couple of days, to try to encourage them to hang onto the gun...

  14. This family isn't my bailiwick, but I'm familiar enough to know that considerations about weight in a 308 battle rifle are similar to considerations about MPG in a one-ton pickup. Do you want a 308 battle rifle, or do you want a rifle that's truly light?
  15. I'm sorry to hear about this setback. I hope it's a minor one in the end. Caregiver fatigue is a pretty significant hurdle, and can be especially difficult when the caregiver is also a close family member (kind of a double whammy). Does TN offer any resources that might help alleviate some of her stressors, even temporarily?

  21. I think bringing production stateside would be a good thing, but it's not a given that it would mean a corresponding increase in quality. Many overseas producers have the ability to manufacture high quality products if asked, and American producers can bring some real turds to market if allowed. I hope Stanley doesn't allow that, and that the buying public doesn't, either.
