  1. I'm leaning very hard towards the TCM, it's just a oddball and not seen often. Will say that the one I sighted in was very accurate, even with a cheap fixed power scope. It was the wood stock version with the 22in barrel. The one I'm looking at is the tactical version with a 20in barrel I think. Would like the extra energy that comes with the TCM, especially for my purpose. The little old LR works great but not much room for error on shot placement. As for the ammo I'm not too concerned about the price just availability, just hoping it's not something that as times and laws change the ammo becomes non existent.
  2. Looking at buying another small caliber rifle, got a bunch of .22lr's but wanting something different. I sighted in the RIA .22TCM Rifle for a buddy and man that thing is sweet. Got a bark to it also. The only thing concerns me about it is ammo selection, can only get it at local gun shops. It runs around $20 for a box of 50 and only Armscor is making it I think. Main use will be shooting hogs over corn on my lease and Varmint control. Do know that all three will do the job with the right shot placement. When I'm hunting over corn all I take is a .22lr and it's taking a fair share of wild hogs. Looking for some opinions.
  3. Thanks guys, I'm pleased with way it turned out.
  4. This year made my 2nd year ever fishing for Crappie and my best year of fishing for them. I might catch bigger later on but for Watts Bar these are dang good fish and my personal best. Dont know the weight just got the measurements. The black went 16 1/4in and 12.5in Girth. The white went 15in with a 12in girth. All I know is they sure are good to look at so the $310 was well spent. I used a old piece of barn wood and stained the edges with Minwax Red Mahogany 225 to get that burnt look on the outer edges. And used Cocunut Oil for the rest to keep the color lighter.
  5. If I ever run across some I will, I pay $3 a box for the Aguila here local. And I'm very impressed with it for the money, but like I said its dirty. If I do my part I can put 5 shots in a dime at 50 yards with the Aguila outta the Ruger. Just gotta swab the barrel every 200 rounds or that group opens up.
  6. Just a little update on the Ruger American Rimfire, I've put around 1000 rounds of Aguila Super Extra through it with no ftf or jams. Its cycled all rounds flawlessly and is a tack driver. I've not tried any other ammo through it because it loves the Aguila and it's super cheap. The only thing I dont like about the Aguila is it's very dirty. After about 200 rounds I gotta clean the gun because the groups start opening up. I did change out the Vortex and put a Bushnell AO scope on it for closer shooting. I like the Go Wild Editions so much I'm ordering a .300 Win Mag in it. Gonna look good next to the .22 and 6.5 Creedmoor. Highly recommend these guns if anybody is in the market for a new rifle.
  7. Its honestly a good scope for the money, it's as clear as the Vortex Copperhead that I swapped over to another gun. Got tool-less turrets that are spot on, and the eye relief is great. Also came with flip up scope caps that ain't bad. So far the gun shoots as good as it did with the Vortex. I'm pleased with it especially for $45, wish he had another because I'd bought it also. You can get them on Amazon for $65, I'll probably pick another up if I can get this Remington 597HB off a buddy.
  8. Yea I know, got a Vortex 4-12X44 on one of my others. Just can't use full power at shorter distances. The 100yd parallax never really bothered me on .22s.
  9. Anybody used one of these scopes before? Got one on Ebay for $45 still in the box. What I've seen online is they're supposed to be pretty decent scopes. Itll be going on one of my .22s just wondered if anybody has used one before. Figured for $45 it'd be hard to beat.
  10. The barrel was touching the stock right where the sling swivel stud was. Had about a 1in section that had to be ground down. The paper will slide all the way to the receiver now with no contact. Got a 3-9X40 Vortex coming for it in the mail and we'll see if it improved. Thanks for everybody's input, I've done what I could just gotta wait on the scope now.
  11. I'm sorry for your loss, its one of the hardest things anybody can go through. I had a similar experience with a local vet years back. Wont get into much details but my little Jack Russell (Daisy) ended up passing away in my arms one night years ago. She crawled up into my arms as if to say goodbye that night before she passed. Still bawl like a baby thinking about her and it could have been prevented if the vet would've sent the medicine home with me the previous day. Once again so sorry for your loss, I know the pain all to well. And pray you find your next companion soon. I never wanted kids and like I tell everybody my dogs is my babies After she passed I got another little Jack Russell (Tubby) and got a Pit (Sheeva). Both are best friends and sleeps in the bed every night. I dread that day I gotta say goodbye to my babies but I know its inevitable and we just gotta give them the best life and love they deserve while we can.
  12. They're cool little guns for sure but would prefer a 20" or 22" barrel honestly. But it is a blast to carry around the woods which is mostly what I'll be using it for. Might mount a decent red dot on it and call it good. Because this gun will never see over a 100 yard shot. I've got the Creedmoor and .300 Win Mag for that.
  13. I took it all apart and cleaned it up good, gotta pick up a couple more boxes of ammo and see if its improved any. Made sure to tighten down the action screws evenly. Either way it still grouped good enough to take game with effectively, just didn't group as good as my other rifles. At 50 yards with the factory iron sights it was shooting around 2 1/4in 3 shot group. To me that's not that great, but honestly it's been awhile since I've shot iron sights. All my other rimfire and centerfire rifles is scope only. Either way I'm glad to be able to keep on hunting with his gun. Got alot of memories with it and experience growing up using it. Then got older and started buying my own guns but figured I'd knock the dust off it and put it back to use. Especially since I just started back baiting the hogs on the lease.
  14. I've got this little old Remington Model 7 my Papaw left me when he passed away a few years back. He bought the gun new around 90-91 and loved this little rifle. It was my go to gun growing up as a kid and have took plenty of deer with it but missed a bunch too. I've not hunted with it since before he passed away and now I got it back out and was shooting it a little bit. I'm just wondering what kind of accuracy people is getting outta these little Model 7's? Because this one wont group at all. I've not cleaned the barrel and honestly dont know when the last time it had been cleaned. It's looking a little dirty. I'm hoping that's the cause of the poor accuracy. I'm going to clean it up good tonight and play around with it some more in a day or two. It's the CDL Model with the 18.5in barrel and iron sights. Just wondering if I'm expecting to much outta this short barrel.
  15. I've only killed one grouse in my life up here in Scott Co. And the fan mount went on the wall with a couple Turkey mounts of mine. A beautiful bird no doubt, I've only seen 4 in my life. One of which was this Turkey season. You dont see them much anymore.
  16. Vortex Copperhead 4-12X44 got it on sale at Joe Bob's for $80 something a couple years ago.
  17. Heres a pic of it the way it sits.
  18. Just got called by the local gun shop and said the Ruger was in so I went and picked it up. Got there filled the paperwork out and after 20 min of waiting it came back denied. Luckily for me I went through this same stuff back a few months ago. They though I was a different dude that had been incarcerated lol. Mark called and got on the phone with them and gave them my social and driver license number and they approved it. They did tell me that whenever I buy a gun to make sure the ffl put in my social and driver license number. I know I've bought from Walmart and never had a problem but some ffl's must skip the social and dl number. But anyways I brought the gun home, before ever shooting I took it all apart cleaned it. Also made sure to tighten the action bolts to specs. Only ammo I had was some Aguila Super Extra in 40gr. Sighted it in at 35 yards and I'm pleased with the grouping outta that cheap ammo. Haven't even put 50 rounds through so I can only imagine itll get better. I could probably click the scope another click to the left but just wanted to shoot it a bit first. Also for reference the circle is the size of a dime, and its 10 round groups. As far as the gun I really like it, the gun feels good, the bolt works smooth for a new gun and the trigger is great. I did adjust it to the lowest setting. The only complaint I got with it is the factory magazine likes to hang a little bit so it takes some force to get it out. But hoping itll free up some as its used.
  19. I forgot that about Nikon, I believe I'll just put that Vortex on and try it out. The manual says with a 50 yard zero on a .22lr that the hashmark's are 60, 90, 120 and 140. But dont say what type of ammo they based that on. I use mostly hyper velocity but will use the standard velocity stuff for squirrels and other things. Just have to shoot it at different ranges and see where it's hitting.
  20. My Ruger American should be in by next Wednesday so I'm looking at scopes for it. I've got a good Vortex Copperhead in 4-12X44 I got from Joe Bob's while on sale. But I'm also liking the 150 BDC reticle in the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire. If I go that route I'll be getting it in the 3-9X40. The gun will be used for under 150 yard shots, while most the shots at or around 50 yards. The ammo will most likely be the CCI Stingers because that's what I use for shooting the wild hogs over bait on the lease. Need some opinions between these two or if you got a recommendation on other scopes in the $150 price range let me know
  21. I had my local gun shop order the Ruger for me, $399 plus tax. Found it cheaper online but he guarantees itll be in within the week. Cant wait to try it out.
  22. That's what I'm leaning too, I'm really liking that Ruger. My Savage A22 fit and finish is very good and feels like a real gun but it's got a Boyd's Laminate from the factory. Believe I'm going to just go with the Ruger. Just hope it doesn't take months to get in with everything going on.
  23. I'm looking into buying a decent bolt .22lr for mostly squirrel hunting but will also be used for wild hogs under 50yds. I'm torn between either the Ruger American Go Wild or the Savage B22 FVSR. I do have some experience with Savage, I've currently got a A22 Target Thumbhole that can put 10 shots in a dime at 50yds. I've dropped many a pig with stingers and ear shots. But I'm wanting a synthetic bolt gun now for those longer hikes and the shorter barrel. Anybody using either model that can give me some feedback? Leaning towards the Ruger just because it looks sweet and itd match my Ruger American 6.5 Creedmoor in Go Wild. Looking forward to some opinions.
  24. Got this one last Saturday, he didn't gobble a bit. I seen him working a oak flat and slipped ahead of him. Waited for over a hr before he got into shooting range. It's been the toughest season I've had in awhile. These public landmountain birds haven't gobbled worth a flip this year. Opening of the season they was gobbling good but after that cold snap and rain it shut them up. 46.5in Length 22lb 11in Beard 1.375 Spurs
