  1. 10 Reasons Women Prefer Guns Over Men 1. You can easily trade that snubby in for something with a longer barrel. 2. You can keep a gun clean with a little Hoppe's and some elbow grease. 3. A gun never complains about the fit of its holster. 4. A gun doesn't need to watch a bad Western on video before you take it to the range. 5. Too many rounds and shots over the years don't cause the trigger guard to grow and sag. 6. You can carry a gun in your pants all day without it becoming a pest. 7. A gun doesn't complain if you want to spend more than 15 minutes at the range. 8. Emission of noxious gases is always under your control. 9. A gun doesn't call you a tease after you do a bit of dry fire. 10. A gun doesn't need to take a nap after each shot.
  2. The owner of MSSA has started a gun shop called Arms Fair. Its of Trinity Road and Germantown Parkway right behind the Super WalMart. They have nice stuff their. Like $20,000 shotguns!
  3. I think the most important thing about introducing a new shooter to firearms is to make sure they have fun. Obviously saftey is the number one concern, but don't be critical on anything else (especially when dealing with the GF or wife). IMO, starting with a .22 and some reactive targets is a great fun place to start. Explore whatever she is interested in doing (minds out of gutter please). If she sees you shooting a different gun than her and she starts asking about it that would be a good oportunity for her to move at her own pace rather than you forcing a gun on her. Make a date out of it, eat lunch at the range so she can watch other shooters. My wife has responded well when I quit trying to teach her stuff. If she asks, then I instruct. Ear plugs and eye protection is a must. She will appreciate you trying to keep her safe. Take a camera and get a few pics of her shooting. Let us know how it works out!
  4. I think I will take the easy way out and change my name to Eric Frantz.
  5. Replacing the glass is probably the best option. It would require removing the wood around the glass (could present sealing issues). Also, it might negate the cost savings I have in it buying a 2nd. May not be worth it.

    daaayuummmm!
  7. I purchased a cigar humidor 2nd. According to the description, these humidors have cosmetic defects like scratches and dings. Well, mine does not have any scratches or dings, instead, it has on the glass engraved, "Eric Frantz, We are proud and honored to welcome you as a citizen of the United States of America 2009". I doubt there is any way to remove the engraving but if there is, I figured you guys would know! The humidor is still pretty and I obviously got a good deal on it but I was hoping for a scratch or ding.

    Small carry Handgun

My vote is for the LCP. I would have purchased a Kahr PM9, however it was much more expensive. I love my LCP.
  9. Let me preface this with saying that I am a law abiding citizen and I will never obtain an out of state firearm outside the scope of the law. I would on the other hand, like to save an FFL fee if I can. I understand that you have to go through an FFL to purchase a pistol from out of state. My question is, if a friend is giving me a gun as a gift (with no consideration given other than a "Thank You") does this still have to go through an FFL? Also, if it does, can he deliver it himself to an FFL and transfer it to me there?
  10. I understand you are ready to puchase a fully functional AR-15 at a decent price. If you can forgo the instant gratification I dont see any disadvantage from building your own. You will feel a sense of great pride and accomplishment from building your own rifle. Also, you will understand more of how it works and how to fix the things that can break. I would start with a stripped lower. Any lower will do as they are all about the same, just pick a company with a logo you like. Then you will need a lower parts kit, I have both CMMG and RRA lower parts kits and again, they are all about the same too. You can always upgrade the trigger later if you decide. Magpul makes some awesome furniture at a great price! I have both a Magpul stock, handguards, and a bunch of their magazines. To keep things easy for myself, I just purchased a STAG complete upper instead of building from the ground up which requires more specialty tools to keep it easy. The M4 is the mans version of a barbie doll. Anything and everything can be upgraded later as you become more knowledgable about what you want in the gun as well as having the funds to do so! I have a ton of useful links to purchase these items as well as awesome instructions on how to build it. PM me if you would like the info as I am sure you probably have enough of your own already. I dont consider myself handy and it surprised me how easy it was. I can also compile a list of tools you need so you dont waste money on the tools you dont. Here is a pic of my rifle before the magpul handguard upgrade. I just purchased the parts as I had the financial means to do so!
  11. You must post pics or it never happened!
  12. Mine started with a stripped lower and as I had the money I purchased the next parts I needed to build it. Took almost a year, and even so its not quite the way I want it but money is tight!
  13. Better late than never! This is my M4gery.
  14. I have always wondered the same thing. A Glock 30 and a 36 are still not the same frame size as the Glock 19/23. About as close as you can get is a Glock 21SF. I would be all over a .45 with the exact same frame size as the 19 or 23.

    RUGER SR-22

You might want to look into a Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22. These can be had for around $450. One of the best .22 AR-15 types out there. It functions the same way as a regular AR. Plus, instead of the conversion kit you would actually just have another gun.
  16. Since you said that it has been happening around the 6th or 7th round, I would think that it has to do with the mag spring. I doubt a pistol that has served you well would all of a sudden stop working as well unless a spring is worn out. Does it do it on both mags?

    the dark side

Congrats and welcome to the dark side! I love my G19.

    Holsters???

Comp-Tac holsters are very highly rated and their customer service and prices are very reasonable. The two most popular models are the C-TAC and the M-TAC. I had a Milt Sparks Versa Max II for my Sig 226 and there is truly nothing better out there for an IWB. If you get something quality right off the bat, you avoid the "box of holsters".

    New Toy

Looks like a fun shooter! Congrats!
  20. I would also like to mention that you might want to have a friend shoot the rifle as well. That way it would eliminate any variable that you yourself might be causing (no offense intended, I would do the same if it were me).
  21. What pistols has she shot? Has she tried a Bersa .380? Otherwise I would say impossible. Everything is a trade off, to get something you have to give something. I would suggest looking into a S&W 642 revolver. It meets most of those requirements.
  22. I just love a happy ending. Congrats on the Ruger! I would suggest that she take a permit/intro to handguns course. Seems to me, the female type tend to listen better to someone other than their spouse/SO.
  23. I have the same question as Bluemax. What are you trading? IMO Glocks are hard to beat! The best at what they are, one of the most versatile and reliable pistols on the market, but butt ugly!
  24. They are hard to find but not "impossible". $450 is IMO way too steep.
  25. It is hard to convince people who have already made up their mind. You could bring up a million justified shooting situations and still not convince them. The bottom line is, they have never REALLY be in fear of their life before. Until that time, it will be difficult to convince them otherwise. There are tons of carrying cliché's such as, I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy and when seconds count, police are only minuets away. A couple of my favorite explanations regarding why I carry are these: Ask them if they wear a seatbelt or have car insurance. Are they asking to get into a wreck? Are they expecting it? No obviously, they have it just in case. This leads me into my next favorite reasoning. I carry in case I am wrong! If you tell them that, they probably will not understand. You explain to them (basically) that you would NEVER voluntarily place yourself in an environment where you remotely think your life could be harmed. But, in the rare chance that you are "wrong" you have your pistol to protect your life. Then again, it is hard to convince someone who does not have an open/realistic point of view, or has not had their life threatened.
