  11. January 30, 2013     Dear Mark:   Thank you for contacting me regarding the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution.  Listening to and learning from Tennesseans is very important to me, and I appreciate that you thought to share this with me. I support our Constitution, including the Second Amendment.   Recently, the president signed twenty-three executive orders on gun control.  This level of unilateral action bypassing Congress on an issue this important is unprecedented and concerning.  We are continuing to review the orders to see if there are any limitations placed on Second Amendment rights.   It appears right now that the president put his major efforts to limit the Second Amendment into proposals that must be voted on by Congress.  This is important because the House of Representatives can amend, accept or reject these proposals.   We will be watching this situation closely, and I know you will also.  Again, thank you for taking the time to write.  I look forward to working with you and all Tennesseans to make our great state an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.   Warmest regards, Bill Haslam                  BH:nsm

  13. Daily report email from Gary Bauer -   The Senate Judiciary Committee today began hearings on legislation aimed at limiting the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding American citizens. The committee began the hearing with an emotionally powerful statement from former Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who was shot and critically injured two years ago by a madman.  In his opening statement, Senator Charles Grassley (R-IA), the ranking Republican on the Judiciary Committee, went straight to the core of some of the left's key talking points. Here are some of his remarks:      "The 1994 assault weapons ban did not stop Columbine.  The Justice Department found the ban ineffective. Scholars have indicated that refining or expanding such legislation will not cut gun violence. …  "We hear that no one needs to carry larger magazines than those that hunters use to shoot deer.  But an attacking criminal, unlike a deer, shoots back. …  "Contrary to what you may have heard, Congress has never prohibited [the Center for Disease Control] from researching gun violence.  Rather, Congress prevented federal research to 'advocate or promote gun control,' which some government researchers had been doing under the guise of taxpayer supported science. …" Senator Grassley's point about the effectiveness of gun control legislation cannot be overstated. It was reported last night that Hadiya Pendleton, a 15 year-old honors student who had performed with her Chicago-area high school band at President Obama's inauguration, was shot and killed yesterday on her way home from school.  If strict gun control laws worked, Chicago would be the safest place in the country. But even the New York Times admits, the city with no gun shops or firing ranges, bans on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, is "laboring to stem a flood of gun violence that contributed to more than 500 homicides last year and at least 40 killings already in 2013."  In fact, in the last decade more Americans have been shot and killed in Chicago than in Afghanistan.

Great Job!   - what we have just listined to is a man who loves his rights, and his country more than most, and he wasn't even born here.   - Well stated, sir. Respectful, forceful, and accurate. Thank you for your voice.   - "The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed for those exceptionally rare circumstances where all other rights have failed — where the government refuses to stand for reelection and silences those who protest; where courts have lost the courage to oppose, or can find no one to enforce their decrees. However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once." ~Judge Alex Kozinski in Silveira v. Lockyer

  22.   I don't think it was a matter of "LET"-ing it happen, they WANTED it to happen, hence they CAUSED it to happen.  It is their agenda to destroy America.  Hannity constantly says that he doesn't think that liberals are unpatriotic, that they love America just as much as we do.  I wonder what the heck he is smoking?  He's just walking on egg shells if he can't call out the truth like Levin, Limbaugh or Savage.
