  1. FWIW, I have ACOGs with a red chevron and a green chevron. I find the background makes a difference, but generally the green is easier to pick up in most situations, seemingly better contrast.
  2. It certainly was the long way around....to long. That test IS the test of astigmatism for red dots. But Aimpoint (where it came from) was trying not to trigger Astigmatics by calling it out, PC way to spend 4 pages talking around what some will see as referring to their 'disability'. Shame they have to bother. If you wear shooting glasses, just get a prescription pair. Most astigmatism are fully correctable. I finally caved when I couldnt see impacts on targets @ 50 yards. Didnt even know how much my very minor astigmatism effected red dots until I tried them and all the flaring was gone.
  3. Welcome to your new family member. Best wishes for her in the next year with a great outcome. Throwing yourself down a set of stairs for attention (or being sleep deprived) is extreme, but extra style points for the awareness to preserve the little one on the way down. That is a slow motion moment that you can be proud to replay in your head. May your recovery be speedy.

The deadpan sarcastic comments are the best. I can only imagine the rabid Five-Seven crowd thinks about some of these videos. But...Ft Hood....Ft Hood...

  6. That's great you want to get that piece of family history. http://usriflecal30m1.com has some database tracking, but its centered on the M1 Garand. You looking for a 1903 or M1? Of course, stranger things, you could put some details here, you never know...
  7. Look at it like any consumable, like ammo, at least that's how I rationalized it. If you had your fun with it, call it good. I was fortunate in my dealer was upfront with me about resale, and it being just as aweful for centerfire cans so I wont be surprised, If it makes you feel better, think how much more folks loose on centerfire pistols suppressors.
  8. Great pick up. While your hand is hot, you should buy some lotto tickets.
  9. Depends on what you reason for wanting a "higher end" gun is, and how good a shooter you are. If you have the time and tools already. Sounds like you already appreciate that the most important thing is the barrel, interface to the upper receiver, BCG. Triggers help, but secondary to those. Greg hit the mark on the economics. Current generics have closed the gap over what was the wild west of parts 6 to 10 years ago. Popular opinion and experience seems to point to there be little difference for a good shooter who knows his build craft and gas system function. The biggest difference seems to be feature sets (ambi this and that) and rail to upper interfaces. There are some that have minor tweaks that are designed to mitigate recoil impulse. If that is worth another 1000 to 1500, is subjective.
  10. Welcome from another CA expatriate
  11. Well aware of both. Bill here was nice enough to give me a tour of CRC and its a nice club I hope to get into. It has a 2 year wait. I've been to Prentice once, overcrowded and getting muzzle swept a couple times by a 10-12 year old whose mom did not care, I figured that was enough of Yocal public ranges for me. Which led to the researching options. I'll post the TVA reference. Like I said, its technically legal but I don't preclude some form or harassment as its been my experience (per Nextdoor and talking it neighbors) that certain people like to whine incessantly about hearing any gunfire at all regardless of legality out in the county. They have maps for what is considered TVA 'Undevloped', but most large enough plots to be usable are pretty far out. https://www.tva.com/Environment/Environmental-Stewardship/Land-Management/Rules-for-Use-of-TVA-Public-Lands Hunting, firearms and alcohol Hunting and fishing are permitted on undeveloped TVA public lands in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, unless otherwise posted. Please note, however, that hunting is prohibited on other TVA lands—such as TVA dam reservations, power plant reservations, power substations and developed recreation areas (such as campgrounds and day-use areas)—unless otherwise posted. Possession and use of firearms and other weapons are permissible on undeveloped TVA public lands subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, unless otherwise posted. If there is a conflict between federal rules/laws and other laws, federal rules/laws prevail. Consumption of alcohol on undeveloped TVA public lands is governed by applicable federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations, unless otherwise posted.
  12. The public land restriction really surprised me when I landed here. In CA where you cant buy most guns and have vast amounts of limitations on what you can own. But its a free for all with where you can go shoot, with plentiful high quality indoor gun ranges most everywhere. They discourage ownership, but not use. I falsely assumed a pro firearm state would be OK with usage and have at least equal to more than what a liberal gun hating state would. So you buy just about anything, but you cant use it outside your own property, and around here anyway, very limited number of indoor ranges that are poor at best with inadequate or no ventilation. Great I can have it now, just cant really use it. That is a major irony and a WTH moment. FWIW, I was looking into it this a bit. It appears that you can use certain TVA lands, or at least its technically legal. Not that you may not be asked to leave at somepoint if someone in earshot calls on a noise complaint. Not great options here per the TVA maps. most are a bit small or have backdrop concerns.
  13. Dont take this as prying, but you should provide the info about the website / forum and seller so folks here know. If it is a forum, they will have mechanisms to at least pull it and ban the user outside feedback. Sorry you got taken. I've been lucky over the years, but for the most part only work with various forum users with history. The only time I've been ripped of was by a retailer who also operated an online store called Desert Warrior Products owned by a thief named Gregory Carr. He had the best prices on Sage EBR stocks at that time (6to 7 years ago), and was known to be slow with reports of 3 to 6 months. Not uncommon as Sage stocks were not alwasy easy to get then. Turns out he did the rob Peter to pay Paul kind of thing as he was cash basis with most vendors. When I told him I was contacting my credit card company he sent me about $200 of product on an @1100 order. never got the stock, too long for my credit company to dispute. $900 poof. I now check any retailer out thoroughly and avoid any that dont have spotless current forum mentions saying good to go.
  14. I was referring to the gens of engine that existed at the time of the 326 and the 66/67 body, but sure in the later ones. Though you would never mistake a 70 for a 66/67 if you thought you were racing a GTO with a 326 which sounded like the thought. That's wasn't a reference to 389 but the Lemans's joke name. If it had a 326 (the smallest or wee....) then it would have been a lemans since GTO's never came with 326 in 66/67. Not that folks didn't pimp the hoods of real GTO to make it look like one. Maybe in this case they didnt swap out the engine badges?
  15. Goats had 389's and 400's, the 'Lemons' had the wee poncho 8. But no doubt that 6 was top of the heap for its kind. Cars we wish we still had. That could be its own thread. Crazy to think what these cars sold for at their low points. I almost picked up s 66 Charger RT, but at the time I didnt like its look compared to the sexy lines of 68's. Of course today, I'd probably take a 66 over a 68 just because they are different. Maybe that's the thread, cars we almost bought?
  16. For those that are concerned about reliability, they don't tend to rush to market and vet their products before release. I have been very happy with my prior holosuns. But the true measure to me was I found their customer service to be fantastic on the one occasion I had to send one back. It felt very much like dealing with Vortex with similar quick turnaround. The few other accounts I've seen in various places also had good experience. I wouldn't hesitate as they stand behind their stuff.
  17. One of the reasons (some) folks pay more for a CMP rifle is the certificate they issue, as it seems to imply it not, or is less of a hackmaster. Older CMP rifles being of more value than newer in most cases. Part of the value is having any documentation that helps establish origin. Folks seem to covered its more parts value, so ease of selling would be helped by having any of its history before it was put to the saw.
  18. Man, I'm thinking I got ripped off paying $400 for my Buick
  19. Seems to me this thread has identified a much needed spin-off thread. What was your first car.....
  20. I am betting there have been some really great cars that ran thru our hands. 1965 Buick Wildcat. Nailhead 401 Bought for $400 from a little old lady my mom knew. Fun, but dangerous in the hands of a teenager. Use to tick my brother off to no end it was faster than his 73 Roadrunner. Had a real problem with right rear wheel tire wear though.

Great job on the video! I went a different route converting one my 2.0 to CORE with S&W not having any dates or knowing the ported one was coming. This vid prompted me to check their website, and it appears they will have a Performance Center version for those wanted to go that route using the ported barrel without concern for low light flash that LEO's may want to avoid. https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-mp-9-m20-ported-425-barrel-slide-core
  22. No doubt that is the sad part, between the media and certain groups trying to generalize a few bad eggs to all police. No different from the group of gun owners being made out as a bunch of cooks just one bad hair day from becoming mass murders.
  23. My sympathies to the brave men and women of law enforcement. Not only do they already have a difficult enough job, but it would appear in certain areas they have been tasked to take additional and unnecessary risks. Watching this video of a crazy with a machete....well....I dont know. Seems they may have to factor things due to social pressure and appearances over appropriate force and their personal safety. Forced to allow something to escalate to a point where the general public is at risk from not stopping it earlier. https://www.yahoo.com/huffpost/machete-attack-police-hollywood-173958387.html
  24. With recent interest in both these pieces, thought this review might be helpful for anyone considering either.
  25. There is a distinct odor of fish in the air. They tell us they are shooting at us, we dont know causualties at the early report versus saying we had folks holed up in bunkers. And our awesome sauce anti missile batteries, knowing birds were inbound and from where they were coming only managed to get 2 of 12 or so functiona birds (some didnt make the flight). I think the play of shooting down an airliner as a distraction is the biggest travesty in it. I want to see the White house call logs please.
