  1. Scalia is easily the smartest justice on the court. And a strong pro gun person, is just my guess. He at least owns guns.
  2. What is a "NICS registration scheme"? In a sense the phrase well regulated militia is irrelevant to the main clause. But it does shed some interesting light on the idea of personal weapons as opposed to, e.g. crew served weapons.
  3. Yeah, even though they are the same bullet. Kinda. Sorta.
  4. Well, he asked for 9mm personal protection ammo. He told me about buying a .357mag at the gun show and when I asked he brought it in to show me, a Taurus 7shot 4" blued model. He took the ammo and came back a few minutes later to complain it didnt fit. He had tried to jam the 9mm rounds into the cylinder. I had no idea he was buying ammo for that gun. So we swapped out for some .38+Ps for the same price. He was respectful and nice. But a genius he wasn't.
  5. First customer of the day. Twenty something Black guy with gold teeth, NY Yankees cap with the price tag or whatever it is still on the bill, baggies--you get the idea. Comes in to buy some ammo. So he's looking around and really grooving on the selection in the shop. Nice fellow. He gets so excited he has to call one of his friends and tell him about it (word of mouth is your best advertising). So he's going on about the place: "Man, he's got .223, he's got really nice pieces, great prices. Man, this n1gger's got everything here!" I chuckle and immediately he realizes what he's said. He apologized profusely and explained that's how they talk in his community. I wasn't offended at all. But it may just be the first time a middle aged white Orthodox Jew has been called a ******.
  6. What he is displaying is not the Seal of the President of The United States. Yet. He hasn't done anything legally wrong. Just stupid. Kind of like open carrying.....
  7. Decisions released today and Heller was not among them. I guess they will be adding extra days. There were 10 decisions to be released and only 3 were.
  8. He is a creature of the Daly Chicago political machine. Almost by definition it means he's dirty is some way. Only question is whether the press will give him a pass on it. He is also extremely untested, and you see this almost every day in mis-steps and mis-statements. His advisors stink, as does his judgement.
  9. I think the GOP spokesman said it best: This guy is a loser. Americans like their symbols and someone promising to do away with them is treading on thin ice.
  10. Actually it refers to a solar eclipse. The Africans (or those in the book) thought that it portended bad events, and there were two during the time the author was writing.
  11. The Mini is increasingly irrelevant. It isn't a bad rifle, but other things are as good/better. If you want to spend the extra money, an AR is a very versatile platform with better accuracy. If you want to spend less money look at the Saiga rifles in .223. I am really impressed with those buggers, esp the Dragunov stocked 16" version. Only drawback is the price of 30rd mags. But compare that to what a 30rd Mini 14 mag costs.
  12. This is the title of a book I am reading now. It is by a white Zimbabwean who has emigrated but his parents still live in Harare. A lot of the book is involved with the take over of white-owned farms by Mugabe's government and the suppression of political opposition. This was written about 2005 but amazingly current. The white farmers had been there typically from right after WW2--many of them are pretty elderly. They had spent their whole lives farming and they were successful. They also employed a lot of local blacks. And Zimbabwe was a net exporter of food. Well, Mugabe just sent his chums, called "war vets" and this mob would show up at the farm and say "OK, this is our property now. You need to pack and leave." And that was it. Of course the farmers all had their firearms taken by the police previously. I keep wondering as I read it about what would happen if some of the farmers had an AR or so handy. The mobs are armed with clubs and knives. A good AR would go a long way to dispersing them. Makes me glad we have a right of firearms ownership here.
  13. I see I'm more than twice your age. It isn't so impressive from this perspective.
  14. I think that says something that they asked the guy to leave. It means lost revenue to them, and no doubt bad publicity from him. And yet safety was more important. Good going!
  15. I've shot .45acp ball made for WW2. It worked fine, no failures of any kind. One of my customers has shot ammo made for WW1. It also worked fine. As long as it hasn't been exposed to oil or has gotten corroded in some way there's nothing to worry about. A lot of it really boils down to your own confidence in the ammo and weapon. If you lack confidence in any part of it, time to change.
  16. Fighting Cock Bourbon. 103 proof. I have new respect.
  17. Bingo. This bill will shortly join HR1022 and any number of other DOA bills passed to salve constituent feelings. Gun control is a loser of an issue. It will never pass. Heck, it will never make it to the floor.
  18. A lot of people I've talked to who were crime victims knew it was coming but only realized that after the fact. There was something out of order and it gave them a bad feeling but they ignored it. In retrospect they realized that they were being targeted.
  19. I'm planning on coming if the weather isn't terribly hot. Back to shooting the Smith 19. Sanity has prevailed.
  20. Oh they made a difference all right. Now if they could just make a difference with the criminals....
  21. I'm sure the dealer embellished that sentiment quite a bit. I asked ATF what the dealer should have done. They said "the dealer should have just refunded the guy's money, maybe keeping a 15% restocking fee." Bear in mind this was a special order so it was going to be something weird, ergo hard to sell.
  22. No, the new buyer and the original buyer had nothing to do with each other, other than the telephone conversation. The actual buyer answered the question on the 4473 truthfully, he was the actual buyer of the firearm. That didnt stop ATF from charging the dealer though. I think they lost the case but of course the dealer had to pay legal fees etc.
  23. Oh no, he owns them because he paid for them. He just can't take possession of them. I remember hearing about a case where someone special ordered a high-dollar custom something and then flunked the background check. So he put it on consignment with the shop. Another customer walks in and is interested in it. The owner explained the issue and suggested he call the guy who ordered it and work out a price. They did and he transferred it to the new buyer ATF charged the shop owner with aiding a straw purchase.
