No, the make, model, caliber and type as well as the serial number are given. This is how they check the gun isn't stolen. I had one come up they thought was stolen. It was a Chinese SKS with about a million serial numbers on it. You should have seen the Metro cops come by and try to figure it out. They weren't actually sure how to check for clear.

U S Supreme Court ruling (Good News)
The Rabbi replied to edellson's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It takes a real talent to come on a gun board the day after the most awaited decision of the supreme court in 75 years and assume no one has heard of it yet. As for your post, I have reported it. I hope it results in appropriate action. But don't let me dissuade you from continuing your personal attacks. -
Okay. I give up. What is a model 367? I think anyone who wants a .357 snub in a lightweight version needs his head examined. It has absolutely no positives and lots of negatives. The Models 442, 642, 638, and 637 all work very well for their intended purpose and cost much less to boot.

Given Taurus' quality of production and customer service focus I probably won't be stocking any.

I'm hitting new lows in Scotch tonight. Cracking open a bottle of Crawford. I'll bet it goes great with ginger ale. -
U S Supreme Court ruling (Good News)

Have you just figured this out? There are probably 3 threads on this topic. ANd that doesn't include the many others merged into those threads. Try reading through them. Even contribute a little. -
Some people think Elvis is alive, OJ is innocent, and 9/11 was an inside job. That's what America great: people can have the most uninformed opinions imaginable and you cannot put them in jail for it.

You hit the nail on the head. They are the only org with an effective, professional lobbying effort. Their future strategy is excellent: pick the low-hanging fruit first. And they are truly non-partisan. Harry Reid I think has a 100% rating from them, despite being a Democratic sleazebag.

There;s nothing in there about a right to privacy either. Do you want to say you have no right to privacy?

Arrange a transfer through a local dealer. That's the only way to do that, afaik.

You've shown states that had pending AWB legislation. I didnt see Heller mentioned anywhere. As for the Volokh piece, gov't can conceivably do almost anything it wants once it becomes unresponsive to people. Look at Zimbabwe, where judges who oppose the regime are simply kicked out, leaving others who are more compliant. I would not put my faith in a Supreme Court ruling to guarantee my rights. I have often said rights are guaranteed by society generally. This is no different.

You just have to look through Scalia's decision and the sources he quotes in English common law. Everywhere where right to bear arms is mentioned, it is talking about small arms. They certainly had cannons and mortars at the time of the 2nd. But no one uses a cannon for personal protection. The definitions are crucial in any discussion. What is the definition of libel? What is the definition of state secret? All our rights hinge on these things.
-
I take it you mean as a matter of legal fact, not as a matter of policy preference. I would say 90% of non-gun owners and about 60% of gun owners.
-
I tend to disagree. Bear arms seems to refer to personal weapons. That is, rifles, pistols, and shotguns. A crew served weapon wouldn't fall into that category. But it is not an either/or proposition. Just because something enjoys a certain level of constitutional protection does not mean anything else is prohibited. The Constitution grants protection from government action, it does not mandate gov't action.
-
Which state legislatures have pending AWB legislation that was put on hold until Heller? Please name them. Cite sources. Any state wanting AWB type legislation already has it. The ones that don't don't want it. Heller was never about AWB. Ergo it makes no sense to say that anyone was waiting for an outcome before proceeding with an AWB.

What difference does the vote make? WHat was the vote in Brown? In Griswold? In Roe? (Brown was unanimous, both Griswold and Roe were 7-2.)
-
You're right. Heller does not provide protection for guns. That wasn't what the case was about. The case was about whether there was an individual right of firearms ownership at all, and whether DC's total ban violated that right. Both those questions were answered in the affirmative. But merely because the court didnt address other questions directly does not mean that suddenly they are going to happen. The Court is only one branch of gov't. Congress would still have to pass an AWB, the president would still have to sign it. Those things haven't happened in the last 12 years and they aren't likely to happen for the next 12 either. ANd they are less likely now with Heller, which simply adds to the pro-gun momentum we've seen over the last decade or so.

I can tell you they do. I ran one once and forgot to print off the approval with the number. I didnt realize that until the next day. When I called TBI they told me they couldn't retrieve the information and I had to wait until my bill arrived. The bill listed the approval numbers and date. I had to match up the date to the ones I did that day and pick out the one that hadn't been recorded yet. As for the 4473s, they still with the dealer for 20 years. If the dealer goes out of business they get returned to ATF. THey are not put in a database. It would be too labor intensive as well as violate Federal law. In any case, think of the number of people who bought a gun 10 years ago and have moved and/or sold the gun. I would say 90% of the information in the total corpus of 4473s is outdated.

need advice from a gunsmith concerning Lorcin Firearms
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you're looking for affirmation for your decision that carrying a Lorcin is a smart idea, look elsewhere. -
I dont see any evidence for that whatsoever. The SC just struck down a Federal ban. Most of the voters approved of that. Why would they go and try to pass another one.
-
Chip, I have no idea where you are reading this from. Guns not normally possessed by law abiding people, such as SBS means just that:NFA weapons. The AR is probably the most popular rifle in America. There is at least one major forum devoted to it. Where did you ever see www.shortbarrelledshotgun.com and the discussion boards there? Just because something was not addressed by Heller does not mean that it suddenly is going to be banned. Congress could institute an AWB. They could prior to Heller. They can after Heller. They are not going to, regardless of Heller. The political process is still at work here. And the political process, spurred on by today's ruling, is against gun legislation. Finally Scalia wrote explicitly that it was not the intent of the decision to make everything clear. Rather these issues will be hashed out in the legislatures (preferably) or the courts. Heller is not the final word on the whole issue. But it is a wonderful base to go on to other issues from.

Okey home brews beer?? And he hasn't brought me any?? Last time I sell him anything at a discount..... -
Then I'd have to change the name of my shop to "Gun Village" or "Gun Town" or something like that...
-
It's amazing. When people come in and ask "what do I have to do to buy a gun" I usually inform them that this is a free state and you have a right to purchase a gun. I often get smiles and joy after that. Especially with people who have lived behind the Smog Curtain.
-
I havent had anyone that dumb yet. I typically take time and show someone how if the gun doesn't fit them they'll never shoot it well. I know some people will think it's just a ploy on the salesman's part anyway. A friend of mine told me when he moved here from MI he went to the police station to see about registering his .22pistol. They laughed at him.
