1. Unless you're in a hurry, I'd wait for a Trojan. Get the real thing. You'll wait for a while, though. My friend bought the last one in America from Hero Gear last week. STI says current orders will hopefully be filled in August. 2. Stock Trojan sights include a .115 rear and a .110 front. That combination sucks for me. I run the same thing you do on my G34--.150 rear/.115 front. I put a .090 front on the Trojan, and still wish there was a little more daylight. It's definitely better than stock, though. 3. I'll end up with an AFTEC as well. 4. Out of the box, my Trojan has run 100% when it fired. I was initially getting super-light primer strikes, but a 21 pound mainspring (as opposed to the stock 15 pound mainspring) seems to have cured it. 5. You'll like the one-hole group at 15 yards. I certainly do. I plan to eventually start carrying a 9mm 1911 .45 purists will puke.

Having it tuned by sending it to a smith? Yes, that can get expensive. Enlisting the help of a couple local 1911 whisperers, however, can get the shooter good results for a small amount of money if the problems aren't huge. I recently picked up an STI Trojan. This is my fourth 1911. What I am finding is that some 1911s don't necessarily have to be constantly "tuned"; just the right combination of parts, springs, etc. has to be found. Once the right recipe is discovered, the gun is fairly trouble-free.

A full size 9mm 1911 is mainly used for competition. A 9mm 1911 that will run is usually preferable to a 9mm Hi Power in a competition setting for various reasons--trigger (especially reset), wider availability of aftermarket parts--sights, holsters, etc, and familiarity. A lot of competition shooters who buy 9mm 1911s already have 1911s in other calibers--there's little or no learning curve when you're not changing platforms. Capacity in competition is often not an issue--in IDPA, all 9mm guns are limited to 10 rounds in the magazine, and in USPSA, most 9mm 1911s will compete in the single stack division. Those who haven't had the chance to play with a tuned 9mm 1911 don't know what they are missing.

Most any Wal-Mart around here will carry ammo; they may be out of certain flavors, however. I was at the Wally on Gtown Pkwy earlier today, and they had plenty of .40 and 9mm, as well as any kind of rifle and shotgun ammo you want. I don't believe they had any 9mm hollow points. If you think Wal-Mart having ammo is odd, you should have been here a few years ago--they all used to carry handguns, and I once saw an M1A at the Germantown store! BTW, the Raleigh Wal-Mart on Austin Peay is probably your closest store if you don't want to cross the river.

My personal favorite, although I shoot a pump I was once dared to shoot five 12 ga. 3" slugs through a pistol-grip pump one-handed. I did it, but my left hand trembled for three days! I've never been accused of being too bright.

Of course they can still get guns, but I don't think it's a good idea to put the right to own and use a gun on a silver platter for convicted criminals. Why have laws at all if you feel that way? He knew the rules, the laws, and the possible consequences. He needs to be a man and face the music. Yep, MSSA. I shoot mostly IDPA there, but have shot USPSA, too. I shoot the once-a-month steel match about every other month. I'm shooting a 3-gun match there this weekend, unless it starts snowing flaming donkey turds. You should get a kick out of this: Now that I'm fooling around with this new EMP I picked up, and am planning to probably move to ESP with a 1911, my Glock 34 is already starting to point high. I though it would take a while before that happened, not only a few days!
