Ruminations on my favorite "go to" handgun. What's yours?

I hear ya. I now tend to fall asleep while watching comedies. Either I'm just a stick in the mud, or they just don't make them like they used to. I think it's the latter.

Nice beaver! RIP, Mr. Nielson.

Chandler, Thanks for the tip--I think I remember you mentioning the detent in the slide release a few months ago. How do I go about putting one there? How deep/wide, etc? What specific variable power recoil spring do you like? I'm currently loading to about 1.155" w/ 147s. CK1, I've been running Wilson ETMs and they feed fine. Tripps don't lock the slide open, but do run. My only other issue with 1911s is getting a correct grip--when I put my thumb on top of the safety, it creates a slight gap between my hand and the grip safety. I'm going to experiment with some tape to re-shape the grip a little.

I used to make fun of all the 1911 guys talking about their mag springs or whatever they had to tweak next. Now, I've picked up four 1911s since April. How times change. A Springfield EMP is now my EDC. My Trojan has run 100% flawlessly WHEN IT FIRES. I have a light primer strike gremlin that usually shows it ugly head when I have just activated a drop turner in the middle of a sanctioned match. When I get my CDP gun sorted out, the Trojan is going back to STI. It's either a link issue or the firing pin hole in the breechface is off-center. The firing pin strikes primers at 12 o'clock. It may end up getting hard-chromed as well (it's ~6 months old and looks like Sgt. York carried it. A friend warned me about STI bluing). All 1911-whisperers who dry fire my Trojan cringe--they say "Why do you want your 1911 trigger to feel like a Glock?" I say something like, "because I shot Glocks for 3 years and don't want a DQ." Seriously, I'm safe, but a truly "tuned" 1911 trigger is currently just too much for me. I don't know much about CZs--they are DA/SA, but can be cocked and locked? Does the safety also function as a decocker? I'd like to tinker with one someday. My 9mm 1911 reloads suffer not because I have trouble inserting the skinny mag, but because I insert mags with 450 ft-lbs of energy (Glock style) and the slide drops halfway. The bullet plugs into the feedramp and I have to slingshot the slide. If I GENTLY insert the mag, the slide stays put and I hit the slide release. .45 1911s do not have this problem, probably because they don't use 12 lb. recoil springs. I've been shooting the Trojan for ~5 months and still struggle with this issue. It's beginning to really piss me off. So help me, I'm coming to Dickson some day. Just not sure when. -Tad aka "A. C." apologies to OP for serious thread drift!

Funny you mention CDP--I have an S&W CDP gun in the works and I've just started reloading .45. I've always wanted a Shadow, though.

I tried this the other day and the best I could manage was a 4.7-4.8 with a 9mm Trojan. I bet I could beat that if I started shooting my G34 again, since my glock reloads are better than my 1911 reloads. Here's the man showing how it's really done: YouTube - Dave Sevigny F.A.S.T. After three beers in five hours, you would probably be more like .06, depending on your size. You don't have to be "over the legal limit" to get a DUI. The officer may or may not let you go. I have a feeling that he/she would be less inclined to let you go if you were also carrying. So, the short answer is that you don't have to be "over the legal limit" to get a weapons violation and help ruin it for the rest of us.

Mysterious Missile Launched over Southern California coast...
deerslayer replied to Zulu Cowboy's topic in General Chat
I seriously doubt NORAD does not know where it came from. If it was a mistake by the US, that is disturbing. If if was something else, that is very disturbing. BTW, where did it go? -
Pretty sure Pietro's is not posted. Good people too--MSSA folks sometimes eat lunch there after matches.

Hickok is still the man.

Scores are posted. Untitled 1 Greg and Rick, I enjoyed shooting with you fellows. I keep saying it, but I'm gonna get up to Dickson some day. Good match overall--Manchester has caught some flak recently over mediocre stages. I enjoyed the match, though. I wish I had calmed down and found my front sight before I completed 11 stages.

I believe you took ESP DC with a 214. I took fake 1st ESP-MA with a 218. I left plenty of points out there, too. SSP DC shot a 212 and CDP DC shot a 207. Can't remember any names, though. None of them were Bresson.

Vote against Emily Elliot for Alderman. She doesn't want you legally packing in the parks. From Pravda: Alderman's gun vote plays role in Bartlett board race » The Commercial Appeal Alderman's gun vote plays role in Bartlett board race Opponents cite Elliott's firearms-in-parks stand Bartlett Alderman Emily Elliott figured she would become a political target when she took a stance against guns in the suburb's parks. Her suspicions came true as both of her opponents in the Nov. 2 election -- Mark Barney and Paula Sedgwick -- say the alderman's vote drew them into the race. Despite three aldermen facing re-election this year, all the attention from challengers is focused on Elliott, the Position 2 incumbent. Unlike Position 1 Alderman W.C. "Bubba" Pleasant and Position 3 Alderman David Parsons, Elliott, a 55-year-old registered nurse and dermatology clinic supervisor, must campaign to earn a fourth 4-year term. Barney, a political novice who has worked in sales for 30 years, and Sedgwick, a state Republican Party committeewoman, are trying to unseat Elliott. While both challengers mentioned several issues, Elliott's lobbying for the city to prohibit handgun-carry-permit holders from bringing guns into Bartlett parks -- a highly emotional issue that faced the board a year ago -- drew the attention of both challengers. Elliott made the motion banning guns in parks but could not get a second, meaning Bartlett follows state law allowing guns. Each challenger invoked support of the U.S. Constitution in their position. "That really got me," Sedgwick said, adding that several family members are hunters and her husband is a National Rifle Association member. "The situation narrowed down to the guns issue in the parks," Barney said of his decision. "That's been a pretty volatile issue." Elliott stands by her vote, saying it wasn't against permit holders having guns but about having the weapons in city parks. She said the vote represented the position of her constituents. "I heard from both sides of the issue, but I heard more from the citizens who did not want guns in the park," the incumbent said. "... I don't regret being the voice of the people who elected me." She added that she supports the Constitution but noted that it also allows for free speech and different opinions. Neither Barney nor Sedgwick has run for office in Bartlett before. Sedgwick was elected Republican state executive committeewoman this year. She has worked on a number of Republican candidate campaigns, including campaign manager for Bartlett Alderman Bobby Simmons' run for sheriff earlier this year. Both challengers also mentioned that Elliott has been in office 12 years and it is time for a change. "I believe the strength of the political system is the ability for more individuals to be involved, not fewer," said Barney, who says he's a registered Republican, but leans more to the tea party movement, including a role in the Mid-South Tea Party. "... We need more public servants, fewer politicians. I'm an advocate for term limits." Sedgwick also noted the incumbent's tenure. "I believe it is time for a new beginning," Sedgwick said. "She's a 12-year alderman, which is wonderful, and she needs to be commended for the service she's given the community. "... I feel like this is a time when we need a change out here." Elliott countered that her longevity on the board provides experience and knowledge of government operations. She said her service on most city commissions provides her with insight. "I do have experience, particularly in the economic times we're in," Elliott said, adding that her experience as a nurse dealing with patients provides insights on listening and analyzing. "Those skills help me to be a good alderman," she said. -- Clay Bailey: 529-2393 RÉsumÉs Mark Barney AGE: 51, born June 16, 1959 EDUCATION: Bachelor of liberal studies, University of Memphis OCCUPATION: Sales consultant for Batesville Casket Co. You Memphis Metro People, Yes or not For Charter?
deerslayer replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
If the city folks are so concerned over the wastefulness of two supposedly duplicate governments, all they have to do is surrender the city charter. The whole county instantly has one goverment. Seriously doubt this passes. Too many non-city folks see this as the slippery slope that it is.
