  1. They were all the hype a couple years ago, but I think I'd pass on them. A friend sent two of them back to Millett before giving up on them completely. BTW, I think there is a gen 1 and a gen 2, not two different models.
  2. See ya there. I'll be trying out a friend's Remington 1100.
  3. I've been pulled over three times since getting a permit and never informed. I have never been asked about a permit or a gun. I got a well-earned ticket on one of these stops. I do not want or need any unnecessary gunplay, so I don't inform and run the risk of being disarmed. So far, it's worked well. If they run my license and discover my permit, I guess my bubbly personality convinces them that I'm harmless.
  4. If you're only going to shoot IDPA 3-5 times a year, shoot whichever gun you carry the most. Ammo cost won't be much of a factor--you are talking about perhaps 400 rounds/year.
  5. Supposedly, some S&B brass is actually steel, but is gold-colored like brass cases. Steel cases can be hard on your dies. I toss all S&B.
  6. Re-read my clarification about ESP. How many 9mm 1911s have you retired?
  7. Where should they have had it?
  8. Some would probably argue that that would go against the spirit of IDPA--performance is not rewarded, other than a trophy or plaque. Prizes are given randomly, regardless of performance. I personally wouldn't have a problem with it, but HQ would probably veto it.
  9. I may have read it incorrectly, but I don't think it has to do with first or second place finishes. I still have mixed feelings about it. Our group sent their stuff overnight every year and never had any problems geting into the Nats. Some folks on idpaforum claim that it was hit or miss whether you were selected. Whatever. It's too far and I'm not going.
  10. I'm not sure where Gainesboro is, but I bet you wouldn't have to drive too far to rack up plenty of points. We in the South are blessed with lots of sanctioned matches. Heck, I bet six points will get you into the Nats. I wanted to go this year, but neither a 13 hour one-way drive nor plane trip+car rental for several days was appealing. I was hoping it would be in Atlanta or even Little Rock.
  11. +1 I am currently playing with 1911s, but if I go back to a Glock (an occasional temptation), I'm gonna pick up a 35 for many of these reasons, but mainly so I can have a hi-cap major gun that I know I can shoot. 10 round minor guns are killing me in USPSA and 3-gun.
  12. I meant to say that a 21 in ESP will get you last place. I've seen many a 21 shooter hold his own in CDP.
  13. 17 for SSP and ESP in IDPA and Production in USPSA. A 21 in CDP will get you last place.
  14. I had good luck with a Lone Wolf 40-to-9 conversion in a G23. Some conversion barrels require changing the ejector, but I didn't have to.
  15. There is the small matter of my daughter's 2nd birthday party this Saturday. I'll be lucky to wedge in a quick match with my new CDP gun (if we still have a range after this storm tonight). As far as 3-gun goes, I need to work on transitions with the rifle. I need an auto shotgun and a hi-cap major pistol. Besides that, I'm good-to-go.
  16. Actually, I only stated that the guy would have been better off if he had not been OCing. It landed him in jail, and likely got his ass kicked by a crazy. I guess I'll take crimson's advice and let it go. Torres wasn't the only one that may be mentally ill.
  17. Well, I find it peculiar that the "mentally ill" guy thought the guy with the gun was going to rob the place. It was probably just the color of the walls, like you suggest. Of course, you are assuming the guy is mentally ill. Maybe he just had a seizure, or an allergic reaction to noises in the kitchen.
  18. Right. I'm sure that Garcia still would have been singled out if he had been concealed.
  19. I wish. After last weekend, I'm just about of .223 and birdshot. This weekend, I hope to test my CDP gun for real. Isn't Tipton one of your guys? He definitely held his own at MSSA this weekend!
  20. It's called having a three digit IQ.
  21. Actually, NM law appears to allow concealed carry in restaurants that serve beer and wine and derive 60% of revenue from food. Perhaps Garcia's serves Coke and rum. Regardless, he probably wouldn't be facing a felony charge if he had just covered it up.
  22. 3-gun is the bomb! I shot a match this weekend. Steel at 200 yards was a blast.
  23. nicemac, Follow the manual. I can't remember exactly what it says, but it's something like turn crimp die until it touches the shell plate. Back off one full turn for light crimp, 1/2 turn for heavy crimp (or something to that effect). Lee FCD is well worth the money, IMHO.
  24. I obviously wasn't there and didn't witness the incident, but the OCer probably would have been better of if he had CCd. http://www.kob.com/article/stories/S1982974.shtml?cat=500 Diners at a Garcia's restaurant in northwest Albuquerque lost their appetites after a customer attacked another inside the restaurant at lunchtime Sunday. Police say Christopher Torres walked into the restaurant and saw another customer, John Garcia, sitting at a table eating with his family. Garcia had a gun on his hip, in a holster. Torres saw this, announced to everyone that he was a DEA agent and said he had video evidence that Garcia was planning to rob the restaurant. Torres then attacked Garcia, hitting him and trying to get the gun. The gun fell on the floor, a customer grabbed it, and then put it in the manager's office. Other customers helped restrain Torres until police arrived. Police say Torres suffers from mental issues. He was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment. He will now face several felony charges. Garcia was also arrested because he was not allowed to take his loaded gun into a place that sells liquor.
  25. +1 I didn't know how good I had it when I was a manual laborer.
