What's my best "bang" for the buck in an air rifle?
deerslayer replied to Raoul's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
+1 A buddy has a .22 Marauder and it's awesome. Accurate, powerful, quiet. He killed a squirrel at 94 yards (according to my rangefinder). My RWS .177 (Model 36 or 40?) is powerful and accurate, but sounds like a .270. If I were planning on some serious backyard air gunning in the city, I might go with the .177. My buddy has blown rat brains THROUGH his wood fence with his .22. -
I was down for four weeks last year after ankle surgery. I'm not a big TV guy, but I watched 4.5 seasons of Breaking Bad and probably 10 movies I've wanted to see over the years. I also read five or six books and spent untold hours surfing with an iPad. One day I researched all the denominations of the Church. 12 weeks? Good luck

Please school me on hog hunting in TN?
deerslayer replied to SquidBilly's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I recall reading in the TN hunting and fishing guidelines or whatever that hogs were considered nuisance animals and it was basically open season on them. Also, the guide recommended thoroughly washing your hands after handling them and burying the carcass because hogs carried so many diseases. What changed? -

Red dot sights are neat and all, but I can't see having one on a carry gun. I've been shooting one competitively for a month and a half or so, and have mixed feelings about them. I found out the hard way this weekend what happens when you step out of a cool environment and into a hot, humid one. BAM! The sight fogs up. Not cool if you really needed it and co-witnessed iron sights, which I've never understood anyway, would also be useless. I hope once I really get used to the gun, they will be faster, but I'm not yet fully convinced. Indexing the gun by muscle memory is even more crucial than with an iron-sighted gun and if your the type to carry different platforms, it won't happen.

USPSA Classifier match at MCTS
deerslayer replied to rstandley's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
MCTS website says matches start at 9 am. Is this correct? -
I am still trying to figure out what was wrong with the 2012 rules.

"All comments, reviews, and suggestions should be sent to Comments@idpa.com. Be sure to include your IDPA number as those without will not be reviewed." As if they will actually review suggestions...

Ha ha ha I was thinking the same thing. Cap, you should bring your Ruger to a steel challenge match--you might just surprise yourself.

Being a southpaw, I like the ambi safety. But a magazine disconnect? Why? Why? Does the Mark 3 have one? My Mark 2 does not.

gotcha.

How does one "de-escalate" a situation with an approaching and/or charging dog? No two dogs are alike, and an about-to-be-bitten gunowner may not have time to analyze a dog's personality. As stated above, if he didn't draw when he did, he probably would not have had another chance if the dog had attacked.

The Memphis Charity Challenge (October 21-22) has been modified to allow all handgun divisions. It is typically revolver and single stack only. The match proceeds benefit LeBonheur Children's Hospital. The match is a level 2 USPSA match and will be held at Memphis Sport Shooting Association in Lakeland, TN. The match website is https://www.facebook.com/2016MCC/.

I have a P3AT, am a member at MSSA, and will be at the AP range sometime next weekend. I don't know what generation it is, but it has been reliable.

I'm interested! A couple questions--any recommendations for how to train if you live in the city? Running the streets of Bartlett with an AR probably won't end well. Also, any idea of round count yet? Roughly what is the average distance between COFs? I'm glad something like this is this close to home and is not over 300 yards. My 1-3 scope does not inspire confidence at 500 yards lol.

Lately, my favorite gun is my Springfield EMP4. It's like Springfield called me and asked what I wanted them to make next. I did have to swap out the rear sight though--dots on the rear sight are just hideous.

I have a Bushmaster Carbon-15 9mm that has never missed a beat. I gave about $800 for it with 8 mags. Not sure what it is good for, but I still like it. May be worthwhile if they are still made.

Thai man attacked by snake that slithered up through his toilet
deerslayer replied to Pete123's topic in General Chat
Man what a crappy situation... -
I shot a friend's 828 and really liked it. I do worry about its aluminum frame and durability, so I bought a Beretta. Can't go wrong with Beretta or Browning, especially when they are cheaper than the 828.

Man with guns detained at Bellevue Baptist Church (Memphis)
deerslayer replied to R_Bert's topic in General Chat
According to the man's mother, he is allegedly a mental patient. Also, the pic at the bottom of the article makes me wonder if he had a disassembled AR rifle or an AR pistol. Not that the media would know the difference. http://wreg.com/2016/03/28/man-armed-with-rifle-and-gun-arrested-at-bellevue-baptist-church-easter-service/ -
Jacketed or cast bullets? WST does almost anything N320 does, except remain consistent when the weather changes. N320 was the Rolls-Royce of powders for .40/180 major shooters--fast burning, "push" recoil impulse, lower burn temperature (better for lead/coated bullets), meters well, low flash, not as messy, not temperature sensitive. It's never easy to find and it's more expensive when you do, but it's worth it if you shoot USPSA Limited.

Loading .410 can be very cost effective. You should be able to load some standard-velocity type 1/2 ounce shells for $5/box or so. If you find someone selling reclaimed shot or cast your own shot, it will be even cheaper. Also, shotgun presses can be found for less. I picked up a used MEC 600 Jr for $65.
