Got a 9mm Trojan. You hear about a lot of drama with 9mm 1911s, but the Trojan has run like a Glock. Best $1K 1911 available. Will probably end up with a .40 Eagle someday.

I doubt Avery will be revealing their distributors, and Powder Valley will be out of their few remaining 1 pound cans of N320 by May. BTW, Powder Valley is $1 cheaper than Avery. After shipping and hazmat fee, Avery is a better deal.

They may be a bit high on some things, but where else can you find Vhitavouri powder? Nowhere locally.

Read the book. It does a better job of explaining why no one will stand up to the Capitol (because they are quickly crushed). Plus, this is several hundred years after the demise of the US--these people have never tasted freedom. Growing up in such a society would probably make it easier to swallow than if someone in the US today were suddenly transplanted into such a society. Everything is relative. Take the games out and I bet their situation is not that much different than everyday folks in North Korea, but we don't see or hear about North Koreans standing up to the government. Not any that survive, anyway.

Their prices are fair, not fabulous, though. Soon, if you are in the market for primers or certain powders, availability will be more important than a couple dollars of difference in price. ETA: They are located on Cumberland, just off Broad St between Bingham and Tillman.

I'll also be backpacking in the Smokies in April. I'll be carrying a Springfield EMP for the two-legged critters and a bottle of bear pepper spray for the four-legged ones. I figure the pepper spray will be easier to hit something with, just as effective, less likely to get me in trouble for shooting a bear, and less likely than a .454 to deafen me.

If a permit lets the LEO know you're a good guy, why did the OP's friend get put in the back of a police car? I don't see a reason to inform. I've been pulled over three times and have never informed. My HCP or whether I have a gun has never been mentioned. Maybe they "pop up" when they run your DL, but apparently, nobody pays attention. Maybe I'll get disarmed and put in the back of a car someday, but if I do, it will be after I unload my gun and hand it to the LEO.

Not exactly in the price range of a Kel-tec or Hi-point, but I have a Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm that is totally reliable and is a blast to shoot. However, I've begun to start thinking "what's the point" and have considered sellling it.

Love mine--it replaced a j-frame as my pocket gun. I don't like long, double action-style triggers, but that's what you get with a lot of pocket guns and the Kahr's is as good as any. Mine has been totally reliable and is surprisingly accurate for its size. Some grumble about recoil, but it's a non-issue for me. Overall, the best pocket gun money can buy, in my worthless opinion.

CM 40. The CM series should make j-frames obsolete. I have a CM9 and it's the best pocket gun money can buy.

I hear a lot of good about the heavy barrel Savage varmint/tactical/sniper-style bolt guns. I have a Remington 700 Police .308 and would definitely recommend it. In fact, a friend has an identical rifle on gunbroker right now. I forget what he wants for it, but I shot 1/2" groups at 100 yards with 147 grain DAG (German milsurp) and a cheap scope. PM me if interested. Don't know too much about Rugers, other than my dad's pencil barrel 1980s M77 (pre-Mark 2 or whatever) was an absolute tackdriver with one particular handload, but was very average with everything else. I hear more people bragging about their Remingtons and Savages than I do about their Rugers. As for scopes, I would go ahead and get a mil-dot or something similar. They usually don't cost much more, and they are pretty neat when you learn how they actually work. Another friend had a Bushnell 10x40 tactical with turrets that he was happy with. IIRC, it is a $300-ish scope. I have a Leupold Mark 4 on mine, but we are talking about a scope that costs more than the rifle. Not sure what your scope budget is.

I never said anything about swinging with three guys or one punch knockouts. Taking control of one opponent for a few seconds and using him against the other two while your family finds the door is a possibility for a skilled individual. I would still rather fight three guys standing up than lying on my back. If I am alone, I'm looking for a way to get away from three guys before I take them on. Me vs. three will probably not turn out well (for me) either way, though. Honestly though, if forced to deal with three guys, my chances of articulating why I shot one or all of them increase dramatically. I say get the gun into action (if available). Don't get me wrong, I have massive respect for jiu-jitsu, I would just rather have more than one option in the toolbox. I understand what you mean about having limited time for training in multiple disciplines. A lot of folks don't realize that Krav incorporates some of jiu-jitsu and judo in later stages. Anyone who sticks with it long enough will learn a lot more than just kickboxing.

I don't see jiu jitsu as being the one, end-all martial art. A necessary item in the toolbox of someone serious about hand-to-hand self-defense? Absolutely. Some sort of striking style has its merits, too. Also, a little judo knowledge is a good thing. I used to have a neighbor who was a jiu-jitsu brown belt. I learned a lot from him, but he was always looking for a way to take the fight to the ground. In an octagon, that's great. But if I am with my wife and daughter, the last thing I want is to roll around on the ground with a thug while his two buddies are raping my wife or kidnapping my daughter. Standing up sometimes has its advantages.

If there is a run, bullets, powder, and brass will be expensive, but will be available. Primers will disappear.

I wear mine while driving a Toyota Tacoma and carrying a Glock 19 all the time. If somebody doesn't like it, it's their problem.
