    Bad SOB.    My friend has a .22 and hunts squirrels in the middle of the city.  The thing is stupid accurate and makes no noise.  His best kill is a squirrel at 94 yards.

  Now that is downright low class.  On a side note, the Memphis Bass Pro had probably 100 Promag polymer 30 round AR mags and metal 20 round mags for $19 each yesterday.  Anybody know if these are any good?

    I agree with all the above, but we are not talking about insulin or heart transplants.  We are talking about people hoarding .22 LR that they will probably never shoot.  With demand going through the roof and almost everyone raising prices as a result, the market determined that a higher price was the norm.  That's supply and demand 101.  If we are going to boycott everyone who raised their prices, there won't be many places left to shop.  The panic buyer needs to heed the old saying, "Buyer beware." 

    i agree 100%, but the definition of a fair price is one that the buyer is willing to pay and the seller is willing to accept.

.40 and 9mm 1911s can be finicky.  1911s were designed to shoot ~1.25" ammunition, like the .45 or 10mm.  The .40 S&W was made to shoot in 9mm-length actions and usually has an overall length of 1.12-1.15.  The movement of the typical 1911 action is a little long for 9mm and .40 rounds.  Some competitive shooters load their .40s to ~1.20 with an increased charge and use 10mm magazines, but this is not helpful for someone with a stack of factory .40 ammo.  One solution is to put a spacer in the rear of the magazine and move the round slightly forward, thus eliminating the gap.  Most .40 1911 magazines use this design.  It doesn't always work, though.    The Springfield EMP is an exception.  It was designed for 9mm and .40 length cartridges.  I know a few folks who have had a little trouble with their EMPs, and a free trip to Springfield to get the chamber opened up a little cured them.  My 9mm was one of these.  The EMPs that had trouble had nothing to do with the fact that they were 9mm or .40 1911s.  Hopefully by now, Springfield has adjusted the chamber dimensions.  They are great little guns.      I am amused that people often mention that STIs are too pricey, when many STIs can be had for less than several Kimber, Springfield, and S&W models.   In fact, an STI Trojan is usually less than an EMP.  To me, it's usually a no-brainer to get the STI and I own three, but if you are looking for a carry-size .40 1911, I would get an EMP and avoid the cartridge length issues.  If you are looking for something bigger, I would look at a Trojan.

We went about five years ago. I'd go back in a heartbeat, but my wife won't. A guy in front of us got dumped and snapped his leg. We stopped and helped drag him up the bank to an ambulance. It took 30 minutes to get my wife back in the boat--she wanted to ride back into town with a deputy who was there. We did the upper and the lower Ocoee. I believe the upper, which, we were told some of the 1996 Olympics were held, is only only part of the year. Scariest part for me was when we hit one rapid (forget which one, they all have names) a little slow, got turned sideways, and one second later, only me and the guide were still in the boat. Like someone above said, those rocks are hard. Everybody was ok, though. My wife drank heavily when we got back. ETA: We went back to the Olympic section the next day and I shot this pic of a guy getting dumped. They fished him out and he was laughing uncontrollably, but was fine.

As mentioned above, I would try a few models before ruling out anything.  As a lefty, I have found many a right-handed mag release to be more convenient for me that for righties.  All but the stubbiest-fingered lefties can hit the mag release with their trigger fingers, often swiveling the grip less than a righty does.  As for ambi slide releases, you will be badly limited in your choices.  Again, some right-handed models are just as easy or easier for a lefty to manipulate with the trigger finger.  Others are mounted farther back on the frame and are harder to reach.    Any safety that will be manipulated before firing needs to be ambi.  I would have an open mind about any other mechanisms, though.

  This.   All the talk about convicts' debt being settled when they walk out of prison is rubbish.  Try being one of their victims.  My father was shot by a convicted non-violent felon.  This garbage will never repay his debt to society, much less my father, but he will someday leave prison.  Part of his punishment is that he cannot legally posess a gun.  Before this happened, I felt the same way about disarming felons and my opinion was only reinforced after my father nearly died.  Why make it easier for such types to obtain guns?   Convicted felons, violent or not, have used such bad judgment or had such evil intentions that they should never be fully trusted again.   I voted no.  I just don't feel sorry for them.

[/quote] A .08 blow may eliminate the need for other tests, but I don't think it's necessarily the determining factor if several tests have been administered. It's probably tougher to get a conviction without a .08, but you still get to spend the night or the weekend in 201, then pay a lawyer possibly several thousand $$ and miss time from work to go to multiple court hearings to get the chance to plead guilty to reckless driving. I don't know if it would be as simple to plea bargain out of a weapons charge. When driving or carrying I NEVER drink, because one drink can cause all kinds of legal problems, whether you are under the influence or not.

Gotcha. I didn't even think of the minor .40 problem you mentioned. There probably is no commercial minor .40 available. No handloads = no go. Not to drag out the handload issue, but when talking action pistol shooting, the two go hand-in-hand. Non-competitive shooter types just don't understand.

.08 is only one of several field sobriety tests an LEO can conduct to determine whether one is under the influence. If you are .07, but fail other tests, you could easily be taken to jail by a cop who is following the law.

What brought about the 180 on handloads?

I have a Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm (non-milspec polymer lower). Thing runs like a sewing machine and is a hoot to shoot, but it's real usefulness is questionable. I've thought of parting with it.

Had them taken out when I was 35 and would do it again in a heartbeat. Dr. scared the crap out of me about it being hell as an adult and warned me not to get behind on my pain med. After four days of seeing bugs and spider webs that didn't exist and talking to my wife when she wasn't there, I decided that I would see just how bad the pain could be and quit the pain meds. I never looked back. I missed two weeks of work, mainly because my job was pretty physical and I would risk some bleeding. If I had had a desk type job, I would have been ok to go back after five or six days. If you are a heavy drinker or drug user, the pain meds may not work as well and it may be rough. I honestly never felt the slightest bit of pain.
