  1. My favorite BBQ place is Interstate BBQ on South Third.  BUT, I always get the smoked turkey platter.  :yum:
  2. I'm no legal scholar, but it appears to me after reading your quote that the third conviction is when possession becomes a felony.   A quick google search revealed that some of silliest offenses were considered crimes by the founders.  Check out these links:   http://www.history.org/Foundation/journal/spring03/branks.cfm   http://digitalcommons.unl.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1061&context=englishfacpubs&sei-redir=1&referer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com%2Furl%3Fsa%3Dt%26rct%3Dj%26q%3Dcolonial%2520capital%2520punishment%26source%3Dweb%26cd%3D7%26ved%3D0CFAQFjAG%26url%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Fdigitalcommons.unl.edu%252Fcgi%252Fviewcontent.cgi%253Farticle%253D1061%2526context%253Denglishfacpubs%26ei%3D6mQAUrLeF4aA9gSv1oHABg%26usg%3DAFQjCNGAZOev6U2DPJM0dK6ngw84SS-KNQ#search=%22colonial%20capital%20punishment%22   I don't think hog theft, homosexuality, or bestiality is a capital offense nowadays.    I never said parole was unreasonable, but I don't consider it fulfilling one's sentence when it is used merely to ease prison crowding.    I don't see what background checks for firearms purchases have to do with this thread, but I have no problem with things the way they currently stand.
  3. He could have easily and just as effectively exercised his second amendment rights without sabotaging yours and mine if he had used a little discretion. We would be wise to remember that the sheep, dumb as they may be, sometimes determine where we can and cannot exercise our second amendment rights.
  4. A fellow open carried into my workplace last week and scared all the idiot sheep.  I tried to explain to the powers that be about carry laws and how they have been on the books for 20 years or so, but you can't fix stupid.  Now we are getting posted.  Thanks, nimrod.

  6. Someone caught with an ounce of weed for the first or even the second time won't be charged with a felony in TN.  Also, I bet a little research would reveal that the founders probably executed criminals for what are now lesser felonies or even misdemeanors.    Most never serve their sentence means what it says--most parole out before the sentence a judge gave them is complete.   Rights being restored to felons is relevant in this thread.  Some would consider the ability to conceal one's past and "start fresh" just as much a freedom as owning a gun or voting.
  7.   We can talk about what should be or what should happen, but the fact is that most violent felons will get out sooner or later and many will return to their old habits.  "Other" felons are felons because their crimes were so damaging or they were so negligent that they shouldn't be trusted with a firearm.  As for them losing their rights after completing their sentence, most of them never complete their sentence.
  8.   And what amazes me is that a significant portion of users of this forum support this kind of crap.  Some of the "felons should be able to own guns" threads really leave me scratching my head.
  9. A San Francisco suburb passed an ordinance preventing city contractors from checking applicants' criminal backgrounds.  Also, the EEOC sued BMW and Dollar General on the basis that their use of background checks constituted discrimination.    The felons-should-be-able-to-own-guns crowd should love this.      http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/08/03/new-laws-make-criminal-pasts-off-limits-in-california-city/?test=latestnews     http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2013/07/27/states-attorneys-now-opposing-feds-opposition-to-criminal-background-checks-for/
  10. Love my 9mm EMP.  Mine had feeding issues with hollow points after a 600 round break-in, so back to Springfield it went.  After they polished the feed ramp and opened up the chamber, it runs like a Glock.  I wore it today in a kydex IWB holster while running a weed eater for three hours while helping my friend mow his boss' 20 acre yard.  Probably the best carry gun I've ever owned, and I've had a few.
  11.     Welcome to TGO.
  12.     Spiff, check the link--you may see why he keeps getting distracted.
  13.     Mike, that is a shame.  From the looks of the rulebook, your TT is not the only one whose work was ignored.  I am really having doubts about the whole TT process and if half those doubts are true, then the review/input process is probably just a formality.  Thanks for your time and efforts, though.    Interestingly, roughly half of the logged comments deal with 9.1/9.2.  Maybe we'll see if the review process is for real, or if BOD is just gonna swing the hammer.
  14. Several features of the new rulebook proposals--DQ for getting NEAR the muzzle safety point, requiring all cover points to be announced during the walk-through, some of the mindless requirements of SOs, requiring flat-footed reloads--remind me of a tv show about back alley coathanger abortions.  The difference is that this monstrosity may actually live.
  15. On the other hand, R 9.1 and R 9.2 appear to describe the dreaded static reload requirement that was rumored.  This is apparently the trade-off for dumping the round-dumping rule.  Supposedly, the point of requiring flat-footed reloads is to reduce or discourage round dumping.  I think the actual result will be a boost in USPSA membership.  DMark will probably like it, though.
  16.   That's probaby what would have happened if he had not been an LEO.
  17.   Then why was it an FTDR if the rulebook didn't clarify?  Sounds like there were some tribal rules to me.  And who says running isn't "tactical?"
  18.     I get tired of all the ignorant Memphis-bashing from Middle and East TN folks who have never lived in or near Memphis, but that is just plain funny.  On the other hand, the non-Memphis Shelby County IQ average would probably rival any other area in the state.
  19. I hope the rulebook does not bring a watering-down, but some of the above posts are similar to others I have read on benos or the idpa forum--that is, if the gamerphobes have their way, IDPA will be custom made for a bunch of bed-wetting Elmer Fudds.  Running earns an FTDR?  Are you serious?  This game may get ruined after all.
  20.     What has drifted?  IDPA dropped the power factor for SSR from 125 to 105 so that people could more easily make power factor with FACTORY ammo.  What else has changed?
  21. I wouldn't worry about warranty issues with STI.  If you have a problem, they will take care of you.  My Lawman 4.0 recently took a free ride to and from STI for a problem that was likely my fault.  They fixed it anyway.    Also, be mindful that the .40 EMP is a steel frame gun--a little heavier to carry, but more pleasant to shoot.
  22. What kind of ammo was it?  FMJ or some $1-a-shot hollow points?  I just don't see even the Feds being dumb enough to train or practice with expensive hollow points.  Bigfoot is for real, BTW.
  23.   When and where?
