Right but nobody’s done much with short case/high BC in .277. Everything I read about it talks about more downrange energy, so maybe they are catering to 600 yard moose hunters. What is your Grendel load? What bullet? I’m building a 6mm ARC, which is basically a Grendel necked down to .243. I picked a lousy time to build an AR, but I never was the smartest kid in the class

That may be true, but a recent trend is to get better performance at long range by moving the shoulder back on an existing or similar cartridge and making it easier to use heavy-for-caliber/higher ballistic coefficient bullets at the same OAL. This method is what made the 6.5 Creedmoor so popular. .277 has been ignored by the high BC bullet makers, so I don’t know why this cartridge popped up. Maybe they know something I don’t. Whatever the case, I can’t imagine that it extends a 5.56 only 100 yards. A .277 caliber 175 grain bullet @2835 fps should destroy a 5.56 range-wise.

While I’m sure many religiously believe in masks, not all do. I occasionally shoot pistol matches with a couple medical types (one runs a family practice) and, although they don’t shake hands or give man-hugs, I’ve never seen either of them wearing a mask. Some medical folks may be simply making sure they toe the company line or face some consequences. A little far-fetched, perhaps, but in the age of cancel culture and de-platforming, one can’t be too careful nowadays.

LOL @ “co-conpirators” I have two problems with this virus—we almost certainly have flawed numbers because we incentivized a covid diagnosis, death, or trip to the respirator. Also, there is wide acceptance of politicians making medical decisions and medical folks making political decisions. I did recently read one medical expert’s opinion that social distancing is not effective unless people are 30 METERS apart. If Team Kamala adopts that as policy, I guess I will have the whole second floor at work to myself.

I think the assumption that, since masks hinder the spread of spit and snot from an outgoing cough or sneeze, they must undoubtedly also filter an outgoing microscopic virus, is problematic. The videos and images that show the spit spray from a sneeze masked vs unmasked can’t see or measure how far a virus actually travels and since masks don’t filter something as small as a virus, they may possibly be completely ineffective. Add to that the constant touching and fiddling and adjusting of masks being worn and one begins to wonder if masks are merely a “feel good” activity that .gov makes us do to appear they know best. Having said that, I wear one where required and see at least 95% of folks doing the same.

It was more than an inconvenience—I was down for the count for a week or so. I was hoping when I inevitably got it, I would have mild symptoms for a couple days like so many have. That ain’t how it went, but I didn’t freak out and run to the hospital. I was looking forward to losing taste for a while so I could possibly lose my fondness for chocolate chip cookies, but I lost only smell and that was temporary. I’ve read antibodies are good for two months or eight, nobody really knows.

Check and 10.4. A few months back got the virus and the shirt, DVD, and action figure. Reminded me a lot of H1N1 when I had that. Got over it just fine and even ran 5.3 miles this morning. Tested positive for antibodies three or four weeks ago. Since the experts are now saying the vaccine won’t necessarily keep you from spreading the virus, there will be no harm to anyone else if I decline the vaccine.

This is an excellent point. One could possibly argue that maintaining health and fitness is patriotic, since it’s good for the well being of the country and can reduce an individual’s impact on society when a pandemic arrives by being less likely to get it and/or more likely to recover quickly. I’m no fitness fanatic or health guru, but I try not abandon common sense when eating and I can run five miles in less than 45 minutes. My blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol are good. I’ve had the virus and fully recovered without issues. I like my unvaccinated odds, but would probably have a different attitude if I were a 70 year old obese diabetic. I’m trying not to become that, however, and I wish more Americans would do the same.

USPS has never liked delivering bullets or any other heavy packages. A friend and I used to routinely order from Precision Delta in MS. Most of the time we had to go get them at the PO after the mailman indicated that they were “undeliverable.” We started getting them shipped to his work, where the mailman could park a few feet from the front door. Still undeliverable. They have delivered bullets to my front door once in my life. One other time, they dropped them next to my mailbox. It rained later the same day. With all that’s going on lately, I have no idea why businesses are using USPS.

Memphis officer charged with murder while on duty
deerslayer replied to Erik88's topic in General Chat
I know several officers and while I have a lot of respect for them, I wouldn’t want their jobs. They don’t speak highly of all their co-workers. For political reasons, city government has prevented MPD from hiring outside Shelby County for years and has instead lowered standards for new recruits. MPD has been 300-400 officers short for several years. The lowered standards result in some with iffy backgrounds getting hired and stories of misconduct are becoming more common. -

Meanwhile the city council refuses to let citizens vote on whether MPD can hire people who live outside Shelby County. Reducing your hiring pool when the department is short staffed and qualified recruits are hard to find is a great idea... -

Well maybe we have different opinions or maybe they are not so different. I would definitely spend a lot of time with an unloaded gun first. Since I am a competitive shooter and have trained a few shooters, I may be thinking in terms of how to make them proficient vs. a simple introduction, but someone going to permit class will probably need more than 50 rounds under their belt. Whatever the case, I agree that a raging liberal who owns guns is better than a raging liberal who doesn't. However, if I take them to the range and they continue to gladly vote for people who want you and me to be felons tomorrow because of what we have in our safes, I feel that my efforts were fruitless. -

I would normally agree, but times are different. Ammunition and components are difficult or impossible to get with no improvement in sight. Do you sacrifice 500-1000 rounds of your ammo to teach a few Democrats to shoot, a couple who are almost certainly lost causes? -
This is news to me too and I do occasionally get out.

So who are these people and what do they believe? Did they buy guns because they didn't like the lawlessness they saw during riots last year? Cops not responding/being told to stand down? Are they now politically motivated to protect their right to self-defense and therefore gun ownership? Some probably are, but many are probably not. How many of these people were Democrat voters and will continue to be? I have three Democrat acquaintances who have recently expressed interest in learning to use a handgun and buying one. One of them is a Cal-Berkely graduate and is a pretty rabid left-wing zealot. One even wants a carry permit. Meanwhile they all voted Dem straight down the ticket and apparently plan to continue doing so. Is there a chance their views/opinions can be changed? Do they simply not fully understand the issues? Or are they afraid they need to prepare for a perceived Proud Boys assault or something? I don't understand their mindset or motivation, but all three want me to take them to the range. What am I to do? Donate my ammo to teach them to shoot? My standing offer with the Cal guy is that we will go when he can get 200 rounds of factory 9mm. I'm not sure how hard he has searched, but he hasn't found any. On one hand, I wonder if a couple range trips can make a difference and "expand the tent." On the other hand, I fear it is just a waste of ammo. -

Exxxxactly. I don't trust Romney/Murkowski/Collins any farther than I can throw them. I've been through one assault weapons ban and it's dumb luck good fortune that it's not still law. Times are different now--this wacky left acts like the wife of 20 years who gave up her career to raise the kids and put her husband through med school, only to be traded in for a 25 year old beauty queen after he made millions. They want the right's spleen in a jar. Establishment career types like Pelosi and Biden may be posturing and bluffing some, but I don't think Kamala and AOC are. They want blood. Plus the Democrats learned a couple lessons form the first (flawed) AWB. I believe the socialist take-from-those-who-work/give-to-those-who-won't woke stuff and climate hysteria will get first priority, but gun control will come up, especially if there is a mass shooting. -
Sounds like Shelby County Fugitive Squad or similar team getting ready for some festivities. Some of those guys look like they just jumped off a Viking longship.
