so sh*tburgers will be even more expensive?
-
A friend builds and maintains fast food restaurants. He explained (dumbed it down for me) that much of the shake-machine-is-down problem is due to lack of mandatory routine maintenance. It’s not that hard, but the $10/hr don’t-give-a-crap kids don’t bother and the machine shuts itself down after X doesn’t happen. I feel like I’ve been in a car wreck two hours after eating McDonald’s. Nowadays, if my cholesterol gets too low, I like Popeye’s.

And one more thing—a small town was specifically chosen to keep the cost of the experiment lower. The government aka the rest of the population (who didn’t win the sweepstakes) funded it, so who would pay the bill if this were implemented on a large scale? I think it was Margaret Thatcher who said the problem with communism is that sooner or later you run out of someone else’s money.

It's been a couple decades and a half since I've read drivel from a bunch of sociologists, but I see much hasn't changed. A temporary experiment in an obscure rural prairie town in another country almost half a century ago can hardly be cited as evidence that massive economic redistribution would miraculously solve our problems today. The cost of living where this took place is almost certainly a fraction (percentage wise) of what would be encountered if this practice were introduced all over America and even more so if introduced in urban areas (where I suspect some would suggest it exclusively belongs)--in other words, it wouldn't have nearly the effect in say, LA, as it would in rural Canada. The experiment was only two years--hardly enough time to make meaningful measurements of long-term effects of free money (decline of work ethic, less motivation to obtain education/life skills) The experiment was funded for only two years and the ramifications of income confiscation and redistribution on the rest of the population hardly had time to take effect Not to generalize, but I suspect that small-town rural people in 1970s Western Canada would be more satisfied and receptive to the idea that their needs were being met than the folks targeted for UBI today--in other words, they were probably small-town salt-of-the-earth types and were less likely to adopt an "ok what's next" attitude that I suspect those expecting entitlements today would quickly develop It was an entertaining read, however.

Gotcha.

Assuming he qualified for red flag festivities. The cops investigated and for all we know may have decided the mother’s claim that he wanted to commit suicide by cop was BS.

Have any links to this research? I’m fresh out of entertaining reading material.

I don’t see how getting people more permanently hooked on the government tit will solve anything.

I wouldn’t doubt it and I bet Shelby County would be one of them. Oddly, Memphis has much less restrictive guns laws than Chicago, but both are rampant with crime. Gun control is irrelevant.
-
Obviously, Democrats will use this event to argue for more gun control. Meanwhile, they ignore the weekly mayhem in Chicago, where strict gun laws are the rule. A friend showed me this Chicago crime tracker website yesterday. Memphis needs something similar. http://heyjackass.com/

I would hope you are right, but Covid taught us that medical types making political decisions and politicians making medical decisions is now kosher.

It may turn out that I am way off, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the shooter was a current employee who felt slighted or discriminated against or mistreated or overlooked or a former employee who was recently terminated. Either way, an angry cat who snapped. I’m not sure how enhanced mental healthcare, short of forced commitment, etc would have prevented this and forced commitment would hinge on family/friends seeing signs, which are often not obvious. And I’m with Eric—who decides who gets committed? In an age where NRA members are labeled as terrorists by the left, no thanks.

I carry a Glock 48 IWB in a Comp-Tac CTAC holster at about 8 o’clock (lefty). The CTAC is a 43 holster that I drimeled the opening for a 48. This combo is comfortable all day and hides well under a t-shirt. I’m 5’10/185 and am relatively fit, but will never be mistaken for Mr. Olympia. Several portly-type friends have insisted that IWB could never work for them, only to eventually find a combination that works. I just can’t do the appendix thing—a striker fired gun pointed at junk and femoral stuff is just a deal breaker.

Looking for long range optics

I think The Legion had a gen 2 PST for sale in the classifieds. -
Don’t get me wrong, I was unhappy about what Trump did, but I don’t think Biden’s announcements today would have been any different without the bump stock debacle. I do tire of folks (not directed at you) who claim to be pro-2A, but supported a guy who is obviously after our guns over a guy who was a smartass on twitter and made what appears to be an uncalculated bonehead move against bump stocks, but was overall much friendlier to gun owners than the current regime.

The only person I know that has been lost to covid died five weeks after getting her second vaccine shot. She was healthy before being vaccinated. I can’t blame her family for being in the “iffy” crowd.
-
Oh I have no doubt the Biden admin will cite such as precedent, but I don’t believe for one second that what is about to happen or be attempted would somehow not be possible without Trump’s actions. They will do or try whatever they want with or without precedent. Trump’s prior actions are irrelevant.
-
Bump stocks are idiotic and I would never own one, but I’m all for keeping them legal because it potentially adds another obstacle for gun grabbers to un-do before they get what they want. However, I don’t see how banning them somehow paved the way for Joe and the hoe’s schemes. I doubt they need some precedent to proceed with whatever they have planned.

A classic. “Since I am your host, and you are my guest, what’s your pleasure? What do you like to do?” ”Oh, I don’t know, play chess...screw?” ”Well let’s play chess”

Universal background checks are unenforceable and merely provide the logic for establishing databases. And I doubt both sides could come together and compile a list of those “that we all agree should not have them.” I thought Pincus was smarter than this.

I have several pairs of Sonoma brand cargo shorts from Kohls. They are $30-35 and are pretty durable. Not American made (Bangladesh I think) but I would buy them again.

Did something I said I wouldn't do for a While

Well my friend’s mother died of Covid yesterday morning, approximately five weeks after getting her second vaccine shot. She was perfectly healthy before getting either shot. He will not be getting the vaccine. Imagine that. -
He actually said "Yesterday was a really bad day for him" instead of "he was having a bad day." A subtle difference, but the quote widely reported by MSM is inaccurate and can have a completely different meaning. But hey, when you need to stir up some viewers or advance an agenda, it's all good to paraphrase.
