I have no interest in working more than the 50 or so I work now. In my younger days, I worked all I could, but I was single and wasn’t raising a kid. I’d rather watch her sports or help with homework or just be a father than work all night. On the other hand, I was recently talking to a captain at a security company that recently started paying guards more. Several applicants have told her they can’t get paid that much because they will lose welfare benefits. That is fundamentally wrong. A doctor who works where my wife does recently quit her $165k/four 10 hour days job because 10 hours was just too much (not because of the money). I guess I was an idiot for working five 12+ hr days for less than half that not too long ago. I wouldn’t know how to act with a three day weekend every week.

New ATF rules dropped today.

Right, but the claim is the 45000 were RECOVERED, not merely MANUFACTURED. -

I was also a bit skeptical of their numbers. I do wonder how long it will be before someone blames this on Trump due to the precedent he supposedly set with the bump stock fiasco. This administration has already demonstrated that it doesn’t care about a precedent. Issue an edict and maybe the courts will overturn it in a few months, maybe not. -
where? Oh, didn't realize she had a shoulder

TN State IDPA Match, Soddy Daisy, 4/1 & 4/2
deerslayer replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Well some USPSA matches do actually recognize a state champion within a division that is separate from high overall, 2nd, etc. I was a little confused about this at first after hearing Billy X is the Arkansas state champion in Limited division when I knew Billy got clobbered, but then realized that Billy was the highest scoring Arkansas resident. He may have finished 12th in the division, but he is the state champion. -

Interested in your TSO if you do decide to split them up… -
Hmmmm... SIG 239 9mm > SIG 239 .40 > SIG 229 .40 > Glock 23 > Glock 27 > Glock 19 > Colt Lightweight Commander .45 > Springfield EMP 9mm > Glock 19 > Springfield EMP4 9mm > Glock 48 > Springfield EMP4 9mm ...and a S&W 442 > Kahr CM9 > Glock 43 for once-a-year pocket or ankle carry. My carry gun is dictated by what I am shooting in USPSA/IDPA. That may seem backward to some, but since I shoot +/- 10k rounds a year competitively, it only makes sense for that training/practice/experience to translate to my EDC. Soooo I carry the same or very similar platform as whatever gamer gun I'm shooting that year.

He was just up the road and I figured I would meet him sooner or later. My condolences to you and his family.

1911s have a well-earned reputation for sometimes being drama queens when new (and sometimes when not new). How many rounds did he shoot? Some owner's manuals say shoot 400 rounds before you call and cuss us. What is it doing? Not extracting a fired case? Stovepiping? Not going fully into battery? Slide locking open every shot? Most semi-auto handgun malfunctions are ammo or magazine related, but with a 1911, sometimes that is not the case. Pretty much every one I have owned has had some kind of initial problem, usually minor, but they seem more problematic out of the box than other designs.

Timney Glock Alpha Trigger
deerslayer replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
A Lone Wolf 342 connector is different from most of the other connectors. The “wall” is not as pronounced. Shooting minor in USPSA requires serious accuracy. You can get away with a bunch of charlies on a high hit factor stage with a major gun, but minor charlies can kill you on certain stages. -
Timney Glock Alpha Trigger
deerslayer replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I don’t think that’s as common as it used to be. I don’t like “slapping” the trigger, but it works for some. A “rolling break” aids in slapping and different connectors can drastically change how a trigger feels. I have gradually morphed toward the rolling break feel, but not so I can slap it. For $30 or so, you make a Glock trigger go from zero to hero. -
Timney Glock Alpha Trigger

I shot one in a 17.5 and 34.5 in Carry Optics last year and I like them a lot. The reset initially didn't hit you in the mouth like most Glocks do, but the second spring they started shipping with it pretty much fixed that. I got them below 3 pounds with a Lone Wolf connector and some polish. The advantage of a Timney is it doesn't need a lighter striker spring to get a low pull weight, so light strikes aren't an issue like some Glocks with maxed out triggers. However, I ended up with a 5 lb striker spring because I was playing recoil spring games and the 5 lb striker spring aided lockup. Obviously, these were gamer guns. -
A couple friends and acquaintances in the past have complained about .40 snappiness, only to change their minds after switching from 135 and 155 grain ammo to 180 and 200. I've shot a bunch of .40 and always thought the reputation for being "snappy" was overblown, but I left the Cor-Bon and Buffalo Bore type stuff and the 155 mini-10mm loads alone. Back a year or two ago, I did note the irony of 9mm ammo being non-existent when conventional wisdom has always said that a 9mm is a must to own because when SHTF, 9mm ammo will ALWAYS be available. Not so much. Many like to eliminate calibers and consolidate, but I think diversifying a collection is not a bad idea if one doesn't reload and stock a few components.

Of all the stuff I've added to my 550, the roller handle was easily the best upgrade.

But they are wrong-handed

A friend has one and recently began having light strikes. Turns out his hammer spring was toast. More research indicated that his is not the first. He uses it in a competitive setting and it gets the hell shot out of it, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen hammer springs go bad. Not that quickly, anyway.

Who says .45 ACP is not popular anymore?
deerslayer replied to Quavodus's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I think the ones who reload are, and increasingly so. Lots of reloading types had large pistol primers sitting around doing nothing. Now that small pistol primers don't exist, people are getting their .45s out and using those large primers. -
Warning-Graphic Picture of my Stupidity
deerslayer replied to Defender's topic in Knives, Lights, EDC Gear
I don't have a picture, but my dumbest self-inflicted cut happened when I was 10 or 11 years old. I had a stupid ritual of "beheading" a banana with a paring knife instead of peeling it like a normal stupid kid. One day I shot 1/4" left and hit the side of my thumb. The blade hit at an angle and made about a 1/2" cut and lacked 1/8" taking the whole corner off. That one bled. What really sucked was getting the sliced nail hung on everything as my thumb healed up. Never was the smartest kid in class... -
I would look at a Dillon 550. It should be similar in price to a Hornady LnL. The 550 is a 4 station non auto-indexing progressive press that is very straightforward and new user-friendly. I have a friend who was new to reloading and I helped him set up his new LnL. It's a good press, but after tinkering with it, I felt that it's a little more complicated than even a Dillon 650/750. Some people throw rocks at the 550 because it doesn't auto index, but I can load 100 rounds in eight minutes with mine. How fast do you need to go? You still have case prep/cleaning before loading and gaging afterward. I have two and my first one was given to me by a friend whose father loaded .308 on it in the early 90s. His father died and the 550 got neglected. When I got it, it looked like it was retrieved from the Titanic and I figured it was worthless. I knew about Dillon's supposedly lifetime warranty, so I called them and they told me to ship it to them. I was hesitant because I figured a new one would be cheaper than what a refurb would cost. Three weeks later I got it back and it looked almost new. There was no charge. After that, I bought a Dillon hat. I would comment on the Lee progressives, but my mama told me if I don't have anything nice to say... ETA: I would avoid a Dillon Square Deal B. They are not as expensive and are competent presses, but they use proprietary dies and sooner or later, that will make you unhappy.

Well, that deal was made when there wasn't an anti-US energy administration in power. Th price didn't have to increase this much. ETA: I haven't read this agreement, but I bet there was some stipulation that all involved parties could renegotiate in the event of a crisis. Whatever the case, the agreement was for two years and that was two years ago. OPEC is free to do whatever they like, and lately they are telling Biden to eat sh*t.
