All that makes sense, although I’m not convinced a simple awareness-of-your-surroundings mindset is unhealthy in the long term. Whatever the case, I don’t think having this awareness attitude or being in a prolonged combat environment (as apparently referenced earlier) is a valid comparison to simply being concerned about and aware of what gun laws have become in other states and could eventually become n ours as well. This is the comparison that I believe Link implied earlier. A refusal to become complacent does not mean one is afraid and paranoid.

The AR and it's 223, will blow a leg or head right off!

I read an article on CNN by Dr. Sanjay Gupta or whatever his name is about how powerful and devastating AR15s are. He quoted all sorts of stats and info about velocity, bullet weight, cavitation, etc. He even provided an incorrect formula for kinetic energy. The typical gun-illiterate CNN fan will quickly infer that only AR15s are capable of some of things Gupta describes, when he is really describing any high power rifle round, as opposed to the gun used to deliver it. But that important detail will be lost on many. -

Agreed on fear. Being constantly alert and aware, not so much.

I wonder if they once were, but one too many said, “That can never happen here.” Complacency is a bitch. The people who run those places can run America sooner or later.
-
Exactly. Some of the people deciding whether or not you have a gun are the same people who claim all NRA members are terrorists and anyone who voted for Trump is a racist.

Tell that to people in NY, CA, CT, MA, IL, etc.

Good grief I'm ready for this clown show to end

So America deserves mass shootings of children?

Well you said “not talking JUST gun ownership” so your wording left the impression that gun ownership was included. Whatever the case, I assumed you were playing devil’s advocate and my comments were not necessarily directed at you. I’ve read enough of your posts to know you’re definitely pro-2A.

How would any of these "solutions" have prevented this massacre? Are we to believe that, if the shooter had only had 10 round magazines, a bunch of third graders would have bum rushed him in the second or two his gun was empty/partially empty while swapping magazines? Go to a USPSA match and watch what a Master or Grand Master class shooter can do with an 8 or 10 round gun. I don't believe a truly skilled shooter (fortunately) has engaged in a mass shooting yet. These yahoos often seem to have bought their gun two weeks or a couple months before their rampage. Giving up more privacy? More stringent background checks? This shooter apparently legally obtained his gun because he had no criminal record, so the only "background check" that would have prevented his purchase may be a Chinese-style social credit system. No thanks. Red flag laws? How would that have stopped this guy? He apparently exhibited no mental illness issues, at least none that anybody noticed or reported. I'm interested in hearing meaningful suggestions or conversations on what can prevent these tragedies, but the Left's worn-out drivel about punishing people who did nothing wrong is stale and (I think) shows that they are not serious about addressing the issue.

Christianity in America is waning. I’m probably not the most religious person on here, but there would probably be less of this lunacy if the opposite were true.

I am not familiar with the commentators in the video, but there is some armchair QBing and assumptions being made. I just heard part of a press conference and it was revealed that supposedly most of the shooting was at the beginning and it apparently became a quasi-hostage negotiation. Also, there was no armed officer in the school when the shooting started, which contradicts what we were told initially. The shooter entered the school through an unlocked door. I wasn’t there and don’t know what officers did or should have done, but I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt until a lot more facts are available.

In other news, brilliant leftist minds like Michael Moore are calling for a moratorium on gun sales and a repeal of the Second Amendment, because Washington and Jefferson never would have approved of it if they had known bullets would be invented 50 years later. https://miamistandard.news/2022/05/25/michael-moore-we-need-moratorium-on-gun-sales-time-to-repeal-the-2nd-amendment/?amp=1

Because it’s a knee-jerk reaction that does not address the actual problem?

No, but I suspect there will soon be talk of mail-in ballots.

I wonder when Crump will announce his lawsuit against Glock.

Who says .45 ACP is not popular anymore?

Not this guy… https://www.blackbulletsinternational.com/ -
Sounds familiar. I think the only time I've watched TV this year was when I watched the Masters on Sunday. I have a friend who works four days a week, has no kids, and sends me Instagram stuff all the time, but says he doesn't have time to do XYZ

What is this Instagram you speak of?

I think you are right. We always hear "this will go away" but I'm not sure this time, at least for handloaders. I have passed up several opportunities to buy primers for $70-90/1000, but I (so far) am not as desperate as some.

I don’t know man, now we have people getting up and walking out during orientation on day one. They are never very old. This is a new experience for me.

9mm c.o.a.l. for 125 gr. RN cast?
deerslayer replied to Quavodus's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I would experiment with seating depth using the plunk and spin method. Load a dummy round and insert it into your gun’s chamber. Seat it incrementally deeper until it drops in and spins freely without scratching the rifling. Some chambers are shorter than others. Glocks always had long, roomy chambers until gen 5 came out. Gen 5 chambers are shorter and ammo for them needs a shorter OAL. Same for many CZs. 1.125-1.130 is where I load most 124/125 ammo, but I had to go down to 1.115 for my gen 5 17 and that was with a Black Bullets International 125, which is a little “pointier” than most 125s. A regular round nose probably would have needed to be even shorter. Some CZ folks talk about 1.05-1.10. These shorter OALs are pretty issue-free with most 125s, but can become problematic with heavier (and therefore longer) bullets.
