Things seem to be going to hell in a handbasket.....
deerslayer replied to Grand Torino's topic in General Chat
I suppose that could be one explanation and that may be the scenario more often than we realize, but I don’t believe that to always be the case and that government by default is evil. I’m no flag waving fan of government, but without it we have anarchy and anarchy will bring us a new government run by people who don’t talk like us and find our ideas about freedom quite peculiar. So government is a necessity and we need to make it work. -

I’ve never understood the whole “we have to grow the city” mentality. Higher housing costs, more congestion, and longer drives to work have never struck me as progress. -

It’s our own fault because it’s easier to accept it and go back to watching football. My favorite movie line is from Terminator 2 “No fate but what we make.” I despise cliches like “everything happens for a reason” and “it wasn’t meant to be.” They imply that we are helpless and have no control of our lives. Not many are willing to take a stand based on principle or vote with their wallet. People bitch about wokeness, then turn around and post on Instagram or Facebook and order everything on Amazon because it’s convenient and support the very people enabling wokeness. People are more concerned about NFL playoffs than they are about what their kids are being taught in school. We reap what we sow. -
Knoxville Rural King Employee Killed by Shoplifter
deerslayer replied to Garufa's topic in General Chat
Naw, they would be better off with him receiving a change of status. Assuming he's convicted and the family stays informed, he'll start getting parole hearings in six or eight years and be out in 12 or 15. That wears on a family if they keep up with the guy while he's locked up. -

I know the two are unrelated, but she isn’t convinced.

There is a camera at 64/Germantown that will send you some hate mail every time you run the red light. Ask my wife how she knows

What are the features of your "ultimate carry pistol" ?

And doesn't need to be excessively loud. So no .357, 10mm, or comped/ported gun for me. -
HELP ME UNDERSTAND.....PLEASE

Hopefully all the dot fans are practicing weak hand/strong hand. Without some substantial practice (with either setup), the dot can be harder to find than a front sight. -
One of life's great mysteries is why, when I have a 50-50 chance of inserting a USB plug correctly the first time, I insert it backwards 100% of the time.

How to ship a firearm for service?
deerslayer replied to billyblazes's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
This is getting some attention from some state AGs: https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/guns-texas-fedex/2022/12/01/id/1098747/ https://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/montana-ag-concerned-fedex-ups-may-be-tracking-gun-ownership-white-house.amp -
I don’t think I’ve ever bought anything from CTD but I have no problem with their use of capitalism to make a buck. A fair price is whatever a buyer is willing to pay and CTD is willing to accept. I’ve seen some of their prices and sometimes they are stupid but the same can be said about some of the classifieds here.

Tennessee Sports Foundation outside Jackson was about $150/year. Your only other option that I can think of would be the public range at Natchez Trace State Park.

Nice shooting! A friend got a Marlin 1895 SBL two or three years ago right before the price on them went sky high. His 300 grain loads were pretty stout, but his 400 grain loads were just plain no fun. Either one would probably put a whooping on a deer, as you demonstrated.

Ruger Vaquero .45 vs Super Blackhawk .44 = holster fit
deerslayer replied to ffr1910's topic in Handguns
I am no Vaquero expert, but I believe there are two versions and the original was identical (sizewise) to a Blackhawk frame. The "New Vaquero" is closer in size to a Colt SAA. There may not be enough difference between the two to matter, but it may be worthwhile to confirm which Vaquero that holster fits. -
Another Marlin model 60 here. Also has the squirrel on the stock. Got it 42? years ago and I still have it.

ad closed Early M77 Mark II 7mm Magnum $700
deerslayer replied to 221 Fireball's topic in Firearms Classifieds
I have its older early 1980s pre-Mark II tang safety cousin in .30-06. It was my dad’s and I killed my first deer with it. I’ve always liked M77s. Nice rifle, GLWS.
