  1. Makes sense. As much as I despise Baldwin, I have mixed feelings about sending him to prison for this. A trip to the local indoor range can look like somebody let loose a bunch of monkeys with chainsaws. I would hate to imagine the safety picture on the set of a movie with untrained Hollywood egomaniacs pretending to shoot each other. I suspect Baldwin did nothing different than he has done numerous times in his career, except this time, somebody loaded the gun. A friend completely disagreed and said if one of us were cleaning a gun, reassembled it, accidently loaded it, and pulled the trigger and shot somebody, we would go to prison and what he did was no different. I think this is a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison. We (should) follow Cooper’s four rules. Those rules get murky when making a movie that involves people being shot. Whether he pulled the hammer or pulled the trigger, Baldwin pointed a gun at someone and shot them and is ultimately responsible. If he had said something like “Wow, I screwed up and this is an eye opening experience. I want to use this tragedy to establish and follow better procedures on sets and change our culture”, I would respect him for it. Instead, he said “IT’S SOMEBODY ELSE’S FAULT!!” So come what may.
  2. I think I read earlier that three people are being charged. I don’t know what movie set procedures are, but if anyone hands me a gun, the first thing I do is make sure it’s empty. If I get hired to play the bad guy in the next Jack Ryan movie (probably not gonna happen), I’ll still immediately check any gun a prop guy hands me. If they don’t like it, they can fire me. I’m an instructor and competitive shooter and this mentality is in my bone marrow. Baldwin, probably not so much, but I doubt he’s had much training and detests guns anyway.
  3. Amen. I put brakes on my wife’s 4Runner this past summer and she already has a warped rotor. I rode shotgun with her last weekend and after five minutes said “Ohhhhhhh”
  4. There are a lot of gunowners who have horrible trigger finger/muzzle discipline and a three pound trigger is the last thing they need.
  5. I have some old Midway headstamp brass somewhere that my dad bought (from Midway). I don’t think there was ever any Midway ammo, though.
  6. A friend has one and is impressed. He said it breaks similar to the Timney but reset is more pronounced. The main gripe about the Timney is that the reset is a little mushy. Timney released a new reset spring that improved things somewhat. Compared to other aftermarket triggers, $100 sounds like a deal if it’s as good as my friend said (if you are looking to improve the trigger).
  7. He's a good dude, a hell of a shot, and an asset to the shooting community.
  8. Not exactly training, more of a test. Beech is good people and makes the FBI qualification look pretty easy. I'm having surgery soon and will be off the range for a while, but I'd like to give it a shot in the next couple weeks if I can swing it.
  9. Then there’s the added benefit of putting Americans out of work while helping the Chinese economy.
  10. Haven’t heard that but I don’t doubt it. Batteries don’t last as long when it’s cold. I’ll stick to my fossil fuel burner
  11. The name doesn't ring a bell, but I hate that he's gone. RIP
  12. Is his TGO username also IronHandJohn? I’m trying to figure out who this is.
  13. Makes me want to go EV shopping
  14. Some folks don’t give three craps about what is supposedly cool. And I didn’t get offended. There’s capitalism and socialism and not much else in between unless you want to throw in socialism’s cousin fascism. What do you suggest we should try?
  15. Makes sense. Around here, a lot of people are blaming MLGW for the water problem. I’m no water engineer, but an unprecedented number of pipe ruptures (on private commercial property) apparently led to an overall decrease in water pressure, which contributed to more freezing. Single digit temps will do that. What is odd is that that we had two or three days of single digit temps last February when it snowed, but I don’t recall as many ruptured lines. Could be the timing - businesses were closed for the holiday weekend and ruptures weren’t detected as quickly as they normally would. I spent Xmas playing with ruptured lines at work, but that was due to some recent idiot procedure changes and some ill-advised budget cutting. It was avoidable, but some would blame the government.
  16. Most people would be better off if they quit worrying about what others have, quit waiting around to be lifted up, be thankful for what they do have, and instead of plotting and praying for the downfall of someone better off than they are, maybe study the path that person took and what makes them tick and possibly learn how to be more successful themselves. What a novel concept.
  17. Again, I’m not convinced that is true 100% of the time. Damn, here I go becoming an idealist.
  18. I suppose that could be one explanation and that may be the scenario more often than we realize, but I don’t believe that to always be the case and that government by default is evil. I’m no flag waving fan of government, but without it we have anarchy and anarchy will bring us a new government run by people who don’t talk like us and find our ideas about freedom quite peculiar. So government is a necessity and we need to make it work.
  19. How much does this person have the right to make?
  20. I’ve never understood the whole “we have to grow the city” mentality. Higher housing costs, more congestion, and longer drives to work have never struck me as progress.
  21. It’s our own fault because it’s easier to accept it and go back to watching football. My favorite movie line is from Terminator 2 “No fate but what we make.” I despise cliches like “everything happens for a reason” and “it wasn’t meant to be.” They imply that we are helpless and have no control of our lives. Not many are willing to take a stand based on principle or vote with their wallet. People bitch about wokeness, then turn around and post on Instagram or Facebook and order everything on Amazon because it’s convenient and support the very people enabling wokeness. People are more concerned about NFL playoffs than they are about what their kids are being taught in school. We reap what we sow.
  22. Naw, they would be better off with him receiving a change of status. Assuming he's convicted and the family stays informed, he'll start getting parole hearings in six or eight years and be out in 12 or 15. That wears on a family if they keep up with the guy while he's locked up.
