  1. Lots of wisdom in that article. I shake my head every time I see such a "carry rotation." The only guy who could pull it off is Ben Stoeger.
  2. The Chicoms are dirtbags, but they build a fine Kalashnikov. I regret selling my MAK90 decades ago. GLWS
  3. I forgot that my uncle had three guns stolen 20 or so years ago. A decade later, he got a call from the police telling him one had been recovered. They gave it back to him no questions asked. This was the same department (Memphis PD) as the one I mentioned earlier. Different departments probably have different procedures and requirements, or maybe it’s just the whim or mood of whoever is in charge that day or that year. All I know is I want all available ammo to fight to get my gun back or clear my name if I ever have the need. A BOS may be weak, but it’s better than nothing.
  4. Yes - a friend of a friend was denied his recovered gun when he couldn’t prove ownership. Another fellow provided the police with his original receipt after they implied that such a receipt would be the only way to assist his plight. Both cases were years ago and I don’t know if a BOS would have helped in either case, but the first guy would have appreciated the opportunity to try. I have never needed a BOS for any of the reasons I listed, but I have also never needed to file a life insurance claim. Hopefully, both trends continue.
  5. I like them for three reasons - If I buy a gun that is later discovered to be stolen, I have a bill of sale. I’m not sure how much water it would hold with the cops, but it’s better than nothing. If a gun I bought is stolen from me and recovered, many jurisdictions want some sort of proof of ownership before they give it back. Again, I’m not sure how much water it would hold with the cops, but it’s better than nothing. If I sell a gun and the cops come to me and say it was used in a crime, I’ll pull out my bill of sale and say “Here’s where it went and when.” All I ever ask for is a permit flash and a current address with autograph (no DL numbers, etc). A simple handwritten bill of sale that I throw in the back of my safe is not the same paper trail as a 4473.
  6. No one else could have played Thulsa Doom or King Jaffe Joffer. RIP
  7. Not sure if anybody mentioned Shogun on Hulu I think? I finally finished it (takes me a long time to watch a show, much less a season). I thought it was well done. I read the book maybe 25 years ago and got it back out. I hear a season 2 is in the works. I hope so.
  8. While I don’t doubt there is some truth in what you say, assuming there are no “true believers” in power who would do the unthinkable if given the opportunity is risky and complacent. I bet the murder-the-babies people would agree.
  9. I think Link in the past has claimed that many politicians screaming for gun control are simply firing up their base or fundraising and don’t mean what they say, or at least have no plans to follow through. There are probably some who would never admit it, but fit that description. Joe Biden is/was possibly one example. He talked the talk, but gun grabbing never seemed to be a top priority for him. On the other hand, there are politicians pursuing disarmament who mean every word they say AND will make it a priority. I have always believed Kamala Harris is one of these and am not looking forward to what she has in store for America if she wins.
  10. I think it's less about getting in anyone's business and more about finding a possible pattern or trend.
  11. "I refuse to play because I want $20 million instead of $18 million" had already soured me on the NFL before the kneeling nonsense. College ball seems to be headed that way.
  12. Told ya… https://wreg.com/news/local/city-of-memphis-holds-press-conference/
  13. It was friendly advice to those who don't live in Shelby County.
  14. They let the Railgarten shooter out with no bond. Guys shoots four people with a shotgun and gets RORd. Stay out of Shelby County if possible.
  15. That might makes sense if we were talking about intelligent, savvy politicians. Memphis is run by imbeciles.
  16. I have no doubt that the Carcano is accurate enough to have made the shot. I wasn’t talking about the Carcano. I was talking about OSWALD’S Carcano.
  17. I would love to own it. I'd take it and a stack of ammo to the range and possibly learn a lot. If half of what I've read about that rifle is true, Oswald couldn't have hit the floor with it, much less Kennedy's head.
  18. Nice shooting Randy!
  19. I’ve played with a couple on carry guns. They are neat and kinda work, but they are not worth the extra noise they make. I haven’t shot one from retention (which is a realistic possibility in a defensive scenario), but I doubt I would like it.
  20. Dots are often marketed to old guys who can no longer focus on the front sight. I would argue that they rarely need to.
  21. I have a lot of trigger time with dots over the past few years with four different platforms (Glock/2011/Walther/CZ75). I have found that they offer two advantages: they are better/faster/easier at distance (20+yards) and they can be handy in some low-light situations. At typical handgun fighting distances, they offer no advantage and I think I am quicker with irons inside 10 yards, but I don't subscribe to the you-must-focus-on-the-front-sight train of thought.
  22. Definitely doable for the compact-ish 2011s. I plan to carry one sooner or later.
  23. My mother had a Ridgeline and I loved that thing. The rednecks will make fun of it while they are getting their GM transmissions rebuilt, but the Ridgeline is one of the most practical vehicles made.
  24. Agreed. I don’t why Toyota is going down this road, unless EPA lunacy is forcing their hand.
