  1. Possibly a Glock 34 and a Smith 442.
  2. If McKennedy wins the Republican nomination, I will probably skip the next presidential election for the first time in my life. If McKennedy wins the election, I will start refreshing my Spanish.
  3. The ergonomics of a Glock are not good or bad; they simply work for some people, and are terrible for others. Ergonomic feel is a highly personal feature. The ergonomics of a 1911 with a flat mainspring housing are terrible for me--the gun naturally points too low. Different strokes for different folks. The Glock works best for me, but is definitely not perfect.
  4. Photog vests scream "gun", while fleece vests are very much in style. They are a bit floppy for drawing a gun, but that can sometimes be remedied by the user.
  5. I know a guy who also carries and competes w/ a G34 in an IWB holster, and he's not a very big guy. I can't ever see carrying that gun IWB, but to each his own. I have trouble hiding anything bigger than a Glock 19/23, but I rarely use an IWB holster.
  6. Comp-Tac
  7. I know--it's getting irritating finding somebody to do it; I need to get enough confidence to just do it myself. I know some people who use a simple vise instead of some of the sight tool gadgets; I'll try it someday.
  8. How much does CA charge for/how quickly can you turn around a sight installation job? Thanks.
  9. I strongly prefer IDPA, but I won't get into why. I'm with you on the goofballs downloading their .40s--doesn't make that much sense to me, either, unless they started with a .40 gun and don't want to buy a new one. Like et said, capacity is not an issue in IDPA. In competition, I usually shoot WWB, which feels exactly the same as my carry ammo, whether 9mm or .40. I'm not the typical IDPA "gamer"; I shoot a compact with a leather thumb-break holster, instead of a 5" gun in a kydex rig. Sometimes, especially in hot weather, I'll even compete with the gun concealed under an untucked polo-type shirt (my preferred warm weather carry method). Any when I'm really feeling wacky, I'll use the 27 under an untucked shirt. Talk about being handicapped!
  10. That was one looong sentence...
  11. I'm not sure why Glocks are again catching heat on this matter, but a friend of mine bought an M&P yesterday. It has no manual safety, but seemed to have a lighter, shorter trigger pull than a Glock. Don't get me wrong, I like the thing a lot, but if a Glock is dangerous, then an M&P is deadly!
  12. LOL, you must not shoot competitively. Many gamers don't give a rodent's rump about whether or not a load is similar to carry ammo.
  13. If you suck, come on out to MSSA and fix it--we're five minutes from Lakeland. With a little training and practice, you will be amazed at how quickly you progress! We shoot IDPA twice a month--pm me for more info if interested.
  14. Oh boy... I wholeheartedly agree, but there's a guy on here who will probably soon lecture us all...
  15. A friend has one of these coming in Wednesday--I'll give you a range report soon if you like. Not the most practical gun in the world, but a 9mm AR can be loads of fun. Most indoor ranges will allow them, and you're ok to shoot steel plates at outdoor ranges. http://www.americanspiritarms.net/store.php?crn=213&rn=411&action=show_detail
  16. No suprise there
  17. I started out in IDPA with a Glock 23, and did not have the same problems you mention here. I have a 19 and a 23, and find little (but some) difference between the two with WWB.
  18. IMHO, grip safeties give a false sense of security. They are not as beneficial as advertised.
  19. Is there any IDPA going on in Dickson? I thought it was just USPSA.
  20. What would be the difference?
  21. Unfortunately, this may be the first time I do not participate in the general election. Fred is out and Paul won't win the nomination, and I don't see much difference in any of the other candidates, Democrat or Republican. If I do vote for one of the Republican lesser-of-two-evils, it will be with a clothespin over my nose. I'm no political analyst, but I am hoping for an Obama nomination--I think he's more beatable than Hillary.
  22. If possible, go to the range and rent a Glock 19, a Smith M&P, and a Springfield XD. Try to find similar sizes and barrel lengths to avoid apples-to-oranges comparisons. These are all ~$450-$550 guns, and have reputations for simplicity, accuracy, and reliability. Night sights will usually add $75-$100. Also, lots of aftermarket sights, holsters, and other accessories will be common for all three, especially the Glock. A cheap gun doesn't always mean a good first gun. $600 will allow you to find a great first weapon, and you may never feel the need for a different one. I have found that a more expensive weapon is not always an upgrade. BTW, if you decide on the M&P, I would strongly recommend finding one that DOES NOT have the magazine disconnect safety option. These are rarely in stock, but ordering one should not be a problem. I may get flamed for this, but the magazine disconnect is a terrible feature, in my opinion.
  23. Baloney, that's the perfect weapon for IDPA. I started out with a compact Glock .40, and now mainly use a compact Glock 9mm.
