  1. So not cheerfully offering your social security number is being an assh*le. Wow.
  2. I was not implying that LEOs are out to steal my identity, but the less it's broadcast on a radio, written down, or even spoken outloud, the safer my identity will be, whether it's in McDonald's, Best Buy, or at a traffic stop. I've never caught criminals, but if I'm being completely honest with an LEO who pulled me over and am who I say I am, but refuse to give my SSN, then there's no deception going on, despite what all the schools in the world may dictate. Whatever the case, it would seem that a SSN would be useless as an identifier if the motorist refuses to give it, since the LEO can't use the motorist's answer as an indication of truthfulness. This leads me back to my original question: What would you do/say if a motorist or suspect refused to furnish his/her social security number?
  3. If you pull me over and I am hesitant to give you my SSN, it's shouldn't be an indicator that I'm a liar; it's merely an indicator that I'm hesitant to give you my SSN. I won't give mine to an LEO; if he can find it by running my license, then it's pointless to ask for it anyway. Lots of folks are hesitant to give out their SSNs to strangers, LEO or not. Obviously, if someone stutters when giving his name or address, something may be up, but people are especially sensitive about SSNs, and LEOs should not get offended if motorists don't want to reveal them.
  4. So what do you do if someone refuses to furnish his social security number?
  5. That's a bit far-fetched.
  6. How is it that big a hassle? After changing it, I pour the old oil into gallon milk jugs and take it to AutoZone the next time I'm buying oil. If it piles up, I could see it being a nuisance, but I try to keep up with it.
  7. A friend of mine (actually MemphisMechanic on this forum) turns wrenches for Toyota. One day he told me, "Well, a guy w/ a 2006 4Runner won the Wal-Mart oil changing sweepstakes today." "Huh?" I said. He replied, "yeah, every 12th oil change at Wal-Mart gets you a new engine." I said, "what the hell are you talking about?" He said that Wal-Mart leaves the drain plug loose or doesn't tighten the filter or screws up something so often that Wal-Mart pays for a customer's new engine now and then.
  8. Do it myself--too many BAD experiences with the dealerships to count. It's rarely a real mechanic who changes oil at the dealership anyway. I won't even get into the Jiffy Lubes and Valvolines...
  9. +1 The Kimber is not worth the extra money.
  10. I believe that this argument is not valid. IIRC, some true DAO handguns must be cycled before the action can be operated again. In other words, after the gun is dry-fired, the slide must be racked in order for the trigger to cock and drop the hammer--no double strike capability. S&W 59 series is an example, I think, but I could be wrong.
  11. I personally witnessed a very alarming ND with a Springfield XD and a Blackhawk Serpa. Nobody rants about finger-off-the-trigger-til-it-clears-the-holster like I do, BUT the Serpa, IMO, increases the chances of an ND. Any holster that requires pressure from the shooter's trigger finger inward toward the holster with such close proximity to the trigger is bad ju-ju. This guy ripped a hole in his pantsleg about 12" long, missing his leg by what had to be less than 1/4", and blew a hole in the ground 3" from his foot. His lack of trigger finger discipline was to blame for sure, but I feel that the holster fueled the danger. One lucky SOB.
  12. I have some of those in my truck.
  13. If David starts banning people over derogatory comments in Glock vs. anti-Glock threads, TGO membership numbers will drop quickly. BTW, my wife was looking over my shoulder while I was typing one of my comments, and said that her uncle is a Mason. I'll have to ask him more about Masonry. Don't know if I'll get any answers, but I'll pick his brain sooner or later.
  14. I won't carry a BUG because I read on the internet that the Masons do.
  15. Send it to Tennessee Cartridge--they'll reload it.
  16. +1 I don't even load my Glock magazine, just in case it jumps into the gun, chambers a round, and shoots me in the ass.
  17. That's all well and good, if you believe in the "when it's your time to go, it's your time to go" BS. I don't. I believe sh*t happens because circumstances come about that make sh*t happen, not because some supreme being or fate or some fortune teller said I would die at 1:42 on a Tuesday afternoon, etc. If I believed that, I would go BASE jumping every weekend. If God has planned for me to die on a certain day, I'll do my best to spoil His plans. Maybe I'll prevail, maybe I won't.
  18. Nothing wrong w/ Federal primers. A lot of competitive shooters actually prefer them--the softer primer is more reliable with titanium strikers/firing pins, tricked-out 1911s, etc. Be proud that you were even able to find SP primers.
  19. Sometimes--a Smith 442 in the front pocket when I do (used to be a P3AT). +1 Two is one and one is none.
  20. I wonder if I am the only one who has ever read Pike's words with an unbiased mind, independently formed an opinion based on those words, then been chastised for pondering what apparently many others have also surmised after reading those words. No wonder you guys have problems.
