I do spray a little Hoppe's on the Boresnake.
-
I fieldstrip and clean every 500-1000 rounds. Boresnake the barrel w/ Hoppes, thoroughly clean all edges/surfaces w/ a cotton patch (aka cut up t-shirt), and oil frame rails, connector (Glock), one drop inside top of slide, and a couple drops spread 360 degrees around the outside of the barrel an inch or two from the bore. About two or three times a year, I will completely detail strip and scrub everything. Edited to add: I shoot only jacketed bullets.

You can't go wrong with a .308, especially around here. You won't encounter any deer at any range that will justify buying a 300 Super Ultra +P+ Magnum. Many would be shocked to learn how little difference in trajectory there is between, say a .270 and a .300 Winchester Magnum at 300 yards. In fact, the military reliably snipes out past 800 yards with the .308. I'm not that familiar with the 770, and would prefer a bare-bones 700 or Winchester 70. DaveTN is on to something when he advises you to reconsider if you will be shooting a lot from a bench. You're a stout enough guy, but I suspect some kids may want to come along sooner or later. The 770 is probably relatively light, and a few rounds from a bench may make younger deer hunters flinch a little. Dick's Sporting Goods had the 770 w/ a 3-9 scope for $319 last weekend (not sure if that price is still good). I'm sure it's a cheaper scope, probably a Bushnell or Tasco, but for $319, you can't go wrong. One thing to watch for on cheaper variable power scopes is a changing point of impact when changing magnification. In other words, at 4X, it's dead on. Move it to 9X, POI may move a little.

or get him a decent QB...

Give them a call and ask for Gordon Carroll. Comp-Tac has a top-notch product, but they are having minor internal issues. They royally pissed me off back about two months ago, but avoided losing a customer by making it right QUICKLY. They sent me a right-handed holster after I made the guy on the phone confirm that it would be left-handed several times. Also, I requested UPS or FedEx ground, since they sent my first holster signature required throught the post office. My post office closes at 5, and is not open at all on weekends. This makes it nearly impossible to get. Went I got the holster, I think I was more pissed about the $22 shipping charge for UPS ground than I was about it being wrong-handed. Anyway, Gordon Carroll is the new president or VP of operations or something, and one of his jobs is to troubleshoot problems like mine, and prevent future occurances. A friend of a friend (who knew he would want to talk to me) gave him my number, and until that conversation, I had sworn off anything else from Comp-Tac. Basically, I believe Comp-Tac has outgrown its infrastructure, and Mr. Carroll is tasked with fixing that. They are about to become a UPS shipper (part of the reason that my shipping was retarded expensive is because they only have an account with the post office). They are investing a pile of money in new software for orders, processing, shipping, etc. I talked with him for probably 45 minutes on two different occasions, and wanted to go work for them after talking to him. Don't give up on them--talk to them Monday, let them know you're pissed, and give them a second chance. I believe they are experiencing growing pains because their product is so good, not because they are incompetent or don't care.

Trouble in Memphis on election day? Doubt it. Trouble in Memphis if Obama got assasinated? Yikes.

I have a couple of them laying around for similar reasons. On the other hand, they are actually cheaper than some pin punches that I've seen in stores.

Who is doing the velcro? I took mine to Guys Shoe & Luggage Repair on Stage Rd. They charged about $12, I think. I would like a Comp-Tac belt, but haven't yet been able to stomach the $95 price tag.

Knock Glocks all you want in a Glock-knocking thread; I don't care. But I do get irritated when someone antagonizes the OP with a useless, smartass comment that does not contribute to the thread at all.

It's a fine round, but unless you reload, I would stay away from it. Ammo will be tougher to find, and will offer fewer choices when you do find it. It's basically a .30-06 necked down to 7mm, and for whitetail deer, has practically no advantage over a .270 or .30-06. Yes, its trajectory is flatter than a .30-06, and it may hit harder than a .270, but after reviewing a few ballistics tables, you may be suprised at how little the difference is. I'm not knocking it; I actually think it's a pretty neat round, and I wish it would catch on more. Back during the 70s or early 80s (I think), Remington introduced the 7mm Express. It flopped, but years later 7mms became the bullet to shoot, and several 7mm cartridges were introduced. One was the .280 Remington, which is merely a 7mm Express with a new name (a simple marketing ploy). The .280 is kind of a 'tweener--everybody thinks a 7mm Rem. Mag. will sweep a moose off its feet at 1000 yards, but on the other end of the spectrum, the 7mm-08 is the 7mm to have if you want a short action. The .280 is sort of the odd man out. As for the rifle, my dad had a 742 back during the 80s in .30-06. So did our neighbor. Neither rifle shot particularly well, and our neighbor (who was a TN state rifle team high power shooter) was especially negative about the 742. Both eventually sold them and got bolt guns.

+1 I have the slide version as well.

Wow. Your contribution to this thread is overwhelming. fizik, here's a link that will show the removal/reassembly of the slide stop in detail: http://www.topglock.com/info/receiverdis.htm Also, it could be possible that the magazine follower is worn to the point that it no longer will hold the slide open. How old/what condition is your mag follower?

Call William Hill @ 755-4196. He's in Cordova, is an upstanding guy, and only charged $30 earlier this year when I used him.

Good luck with your gamble.

Anybody going to the TN IDPA state championship this Saturday?

Many people who do not even have land lines are getting alarms with cellular connections. The cell backup costs us about $5/month extra.

Advice on slowing down speeders in residential neighborhood?

I think the stick in the road is a good idea. -
I don't feel that alarms are useless, but they do have limited value. I think they serve more to discourage the hassle of breaking into a house where the burglars know there is an alarm than actually causing the cops to show up with guns drawn to catch the bad guys. Sure, a pro can easily defeat an alarm, but the average thug may move on. Somebody cut our phone line on New Year's Eve two years ago (apparently attempting to disable the alarm), but did not break in. My theory is that they chickened out or got spooked and changed their minds. Why else would someone slice your phone line in broad daylight? If they had broken in, the cellular backup would have allowed the alarm to work normally.

being a lefty has its advantages every 10 or 12 years.
-
Yeah, but you were probably using a rifle. This is not nearly as difficult as it sounds--I bet you could do it.
-
It seems that the mag change would take quite a bit longer by hitting the mag release with your weak hand. If speed is a concern, rotating the gun slightly in your strong (shooting) hand and ejecting the mag while reaching for a fresh mag takes less time than hitting the mag release with the weak hand, then getting a new mag with that same hand.

I had a SOG Flash XL and loved it. Unfortunately, I can't find it.
