  1. Well, if I am one of the ones labeled "copbasher," then so be it. This is similar to Obama supporters yelling "racist" every chance they get, though. I never generalized all cops; I just made an honest, undeniable observation about the local PD. The law simply does not apply to an alarming percentage of them here. To all the good, honest cops (and I know several), I thank you for what you do on a daily basis. Others, however, do not get my sympathy when they gripe about low pay, crappy hours, scummy work enviroment, or diry work they have to do. None were drafted into their field; all made choices to become cops knowing the pay, risks, and thankless nature of the job.
  2. Dont sterotype MPD like that--the bad apples give the other 60% a bad name.
  3. Because, if this guy had turned out to be MPD, OP's call to the police would have been a complete waste of time. Cops around here are above the law.
  4. My everyday carry knife, as well. I wish I could disable the safety, though.

    1911, why?

    Vince Young

He's been a bust, but comparing him to Ryan Leaf may be a bit harsh. Maybe he will adapt and become a passer first. Scrambling to make the pass is great. McNair and McNabb have been successful with this formula. Simply being a running QB like Vick and Young makes for great college highlights, but short NFL careers.
  7. I switched to Glocks from 1911s, and quickly resolved this problem. I bet that if you shot Glocks exclusively, like me, you would not have that problem. I am by no means saying everyone should do that, but that issue is one of the reasons that I shoot/carry/compete with one type of gun. Switching back and forth between different types of guns is not a good idea, IMO. For a while, I shot SIGs exclusively. Then I switched to 1911s. Then I finally settled on Glocks. Now, if I shoot a 1911 with a flat MSH, I momentarily can't find the front sight. My point is that no matter what type of gun I choose, I will stick with that brand/style, etc to avoid grip angle/pointability/indexing/different controls issues.
  8. Yes, concealment is required, but they'll probably let you shoot without it at first. They don't want to hammer a new guy over the head with rules--they are trying to recruit a new shooter. You can shoot your revolver in two revolver-only divisions: SSR (stock service revolver) or ESR (enhanced service revolver). SSR is geared towards a 4" .38/.357 using .38 ammo and speed loaders. ESR is more for guys using L and N frame .45 ACPs with moon clips. I believe revolver guys are allowed three speedloaders or moon clips on their belt (as opposed to two magazines). While you are technically only shooting against other revolvers, everybody compares their scores with everybody.
  9. Here's some video that Memphis Mechanic shot at the match: [ame] [/ame]
  10. canyn, FWIW, I got an e-mail that said no IDPA this coming week due to repairs to the big side. You are probably already ahead of me on this. truth, On Tuesday nights, Range USA shoots IDPA and it's ~$12-$13. Rangemaster shoots every Friday night, and the cost is (was) $15. On the second and fourth Saturday of each month, MSSA has IDPA (outdoors) and it's $12 for non-members. Bring eyes and ears, your gun, a strong-side hip holster (no cross draw or small of back type), three magazines, and a magazine carrier (for two mags, or two single mag carriers). Plan on shooting ~75 rounds on Tuesday or Friday, and 100-125 on Saturdays. Bring more than you think you'll need. Be warned--this will be even more fun than you expected.
  11. Wow. Because of Obama, I am inspired to get my Dillon 550 rolling...
  12. RUSA on Tuesday night or MSSA on Saturday?
  13. So, how did it go? I was going to be there, but my wife is in the hospital.
  14. I will try to make a meet-n-greet on a Saturday night or a Sunday afternoon. Probably won't shoot, but would like to come socialize with some TGOers from the ghetto end of TN. Local restaurant or RUSA, either one works for me.
  15. That is a pretty cool idea. The heck with IDPA, I want it for my carry gun! *off topic* When ya gonna man up and come shoot with us??
  16. It makes a lot more difference when put in a holster than the pic would indicate. I would rather carry a 23, but sometimes go with this exact setup for better concealment. That extra 1/2" of backstrap on the 23 sometimes pokes out at the worst of times. Bobtail 1911s use the same logic. Here are two pics I took a while back illustrating the same thing:
  17. 21SF and 30SF are the fourth generation. The pic is more than likely a hoax. Sooner or later, most Glocks will have the option of the useless (for lefties) ambi mag catch. Righties may appreciate it more, but it serves no purpose for southpaws.
  18. tadams: Just a little tape on the inside of the vest on the gun side (left for me) reduces the "flopiness" of fleece. [/url]
  19. You would probably suprise yourself--I have been smoked more times than I care to remember by guys who were fatter and older than me. NEVER judge an opponent by the way he looks, whether it is in an IDPA match or a fistfight.
  20. Ummm...you are the one who started the drift.
  21. As it gets colder, I'll start wearing more Columbia fleece vests over a long sleeve t-shirt or flannel shirt. A little athletic tape on the strong side stiffens the vest for an easier draw, and it looks like all the other fleece vests everybody else in the mall is wearing.
  22. Bushmaster Carbon 15 9mm. Hands down the funnest rifle I've ever owned. No pics, but it looks like this: http://www.bushmaster.com/catalog_carbon15_AZ9-C15R16FT.asp
  23. Been a member for many years and am, frankly, a bit suprised at how many people on this thread aren't members.
  24. +1 I usually carry with an untucked polo. When I first started doing this, I thought it looked a bit slobbish, but I actually blend in very well. Combine it with a Callaway or Ping hat, and I look like some harmless kid who just came from the golf course.
