  1. +1 ftn, I'm no Biblical scholar, but I believe the Calinist theory is baloney, and I told my friend (actually more like acquaintance) the same.
  2. That means I would be in hell...heaven for me will include a daily 3-gun match. I had a conversation very similar to this one a while back with a friend who believes in Calvinistic Predestination. This friend believes that if it's your time to go, then it's your time to go--it was decided before you were ever born, and there's nothing you can do about it. I responded that if I believed that, I would go skydiving every weekend, drive 90 mph everywhere I went, never buy insurance, and be a hellion in general. If it's God's plan for me or my family to get killed by a thug, then I'll do my best to botch his plans.
  3. FMJ has nothing to do with it. HPs, FMJs, and lead bullets all flatten/splatter when they hit steel targets. I've been hit by fragments several times, but always from an adjacent bay (at a 90 degree angle from a steel target). We keep them 10 yards away, and as long as they are not pitted, there is practically no risk to the shooter. We changed all our poppers to forward-falling. Rear-falling poppers do pose a ricochet risk--people get excited and double tap them, and the second bullet hits the falling target at an angle and sometimes glances off. The cowboy shooters shoot at us on the other side of the berm (although there is 20' of earth between us) and we occasionally hear ricochets coming off their falling-steel targets.
  4. They are basically gamer guns, but some shooting games make average shooters much better.
  5. Sunday afternoon around lunchtime will work for me, but I doubt I'll shoot--just socialize. I'll need to be home by 3:15 to watch Dallas slaughter Pittsburgh, though.
  6. He did start out talking about kids who want to play football, but went from there. Talking to kids about not going to stupid places is admirable, but I felt he was headed farther down the road than that. I didn't hear the Costas part, but it doesn't suprise me. After Sean Taylor of the Redskins was killed in his home last year, offensive lineman Chris Samuels was quoted as saying he had never held a gun before, but he was planning on getting one and learning how to use it. What would Costas say about that?
  7. Ok, that all makes more sense. I'm still scratching my head, trying to figure out if I really want to spend $900+ on a sight--the 1X red dots like Eotechs and Aimpoints are tempting. Hell, I may go with the forward mounted Millett, who knows. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer me and deal with my ignorance on these sights (my other ARs all have strictly iron sights). This latest relapse of EBR disease is going to be a b*tch.
  8. Thanks for the info. I shoot with both eyes open all the time--pistol, rifle, irons sights, 9X scope, whatever. I see what you're saying about transitioning between eyes, but it does seem tricky. What advantage does the ACOG offer over other 4X scopes? In other words, why can't you do this with all scopes?
  9. I think he could have put it all to rest months ago if he didn't have something to hide. Not saying that it's fake, but I wonder if his birth certificate will reveal something embarrasing, like his real father is Louis Farrakhan or something.
  10. Yeah, he said he had been to places where they were wanding people before they let them in, and he decided that he didn't need to be there. That mindset would prevent me from attending many sporting events. Hell, if I didn't want to get wanded, I couldn't even go to work.
  11. I am watching Redskins v. Giants. Plaxico Buress is not playing because he accidently shot himself in some club Friday night. Probably used a Glock. Anyway, fatass Tony Siragusa said that Buress was foolish to carry a gun with him, and that you shouldn't go places where you feel it is necessary to carry a gun. Wow, I didn't know crime locations could be predicted. What an ignorant political statement by an overpaid, overweight numbnuts.
  12. I'm no fan of Horiuchi or the ATF. Whatever the case, why would a company that produces stocks for precision rifles want an endorsement from a controversial sniper who shot someone in the arm?
  13. $wow$ Isn't the ACOG a fixed power scope, though?
  14. Picked up a Smith ORC M4 (no front or rear sights). What I would like to do is find a 1-3 or 1-4 compact scope, possibly with an illuminated circle-type reticle, like the Millett DMS http://www.millettsights.com/controller.php/catalog/tactical_dms My problem is that I hate the way they usually have to be mounted so far forward. I never got over my childhood hatred of the texture of raw vegetables, either. Go figure. I may settle for an Eotech or Aimpoint and and good set of BUIS, but what I'd like to find is a DMS-style scope in a shorter package. I definitely want the CQB-utility of a true 1X sight, but the optional magnification would be nice. I've been on other forums snooping around, and the only other option I've found is Leupold's CQ/T. I've read good and bad opinions from users about it, but at $800-900, I'm a bit reluctant to pull the trigger. Anybody got a similar setup?
  15. How big are your hands? If they are smallish, you may be better off hitting the mag release with your trigger finger. The 229 is not exactly slim. I'm a lefty, and always thought I'd like a switched mag release, but hated it the first time I tried it. Congrats on a fine weapon.
  16. +1 In the 90s, UT fans would be thinking, "we have a shot at the title game." Finishing outside the top five was a disappointment. Lately, fans say things like "we may have a chance at winning the east!" And a top 20 finish is considered a successful year. While I respect him as a decent man, his coaching/recruiting prowess has dwindled over the years. It doesn't take an armchair quarterback to realize something is badly jacked up with two losing seasons in the last four years. Hopefully, UT never hires another former offensive lineman as head coach (or offensive coordinator, for that matter).
  17. +1 Hans Gruber...sounds like more of a Nazi than a Stalinist.
  18. that explains it
  19. ????????? Fulmer has been running the program into the ground since 2001. They are 4-7, maybe 4-8 tomorrow. He gets outcoached every week, and he can no longer recruit. Expectations are lower every year. For this, he's awarded millions. How is this getting screwed???

  21. So sorry to hear of your loss. This really hits home--my wife went in the hospital last week with a short cervix (she's at 25 weeks). Fortunately, she's home now, but premature labor is still a worry. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
  22. Wolverines!
  23. Again, I never generalized all cops, only MPD. Get out of the LEO field, move to Memphis, and stay for five years. Then you may know where I'm coming from. Happy T-giving and be safe out there.
