As if Nashville is a big improvement...
-
I didn't watch it, but I did listen to it on 600 while cleaning a gun out in the garage. A C, Myron, Carpenter, Chumney, and even Lawler are serious candidates. The rest are along for the ride. Mongo made a total ass of himself with the bond rating question. "I wouldn't buy a bond from the city!" What a total d-bag. If 173 morons who voted for him had voted for Hackett instead back in 1992, we may have never had to live under King Willie.

I jog in BDU shorts and carry a Smith 442 in a DeSantis pocket holster in my left front pocket (right front pocket for everybody else). I usually run 2-3 miles, and this setup works well for me.

Congrats on the 27. Even with a +1 extension, it's still easier to conceal than a 23.

Tri-State Regional IDPA match is approaching...
deerslayer replied to deerslayer's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
The Rangemaster Friday night matches officially require that shooters have taken some type of Rangemaster training, but exceptions are made all the time. Call Rangemaster and ask for Mike or Tony, or call Robbie at Arms Fair in Cordova (901-755-5540). If you used to shoot with them, you'll probably be good to go. Look forward to seeing you at the match! -
+1 Krav has influenced my shooting stance a lot. Although I don't squat as much as you do in your avatar, and my feet are closer together, some of my IDPA buddies have said my stance resembles some IPSC shooters more than IDPA. I didn't think there was any difference. Anyway, IMHO, a Krav fighting stance with a gun extended is just about the perfect blend between a pure Isosceles and a pure Weaver, which is what my natural stance has evolved into--weak foot slightly in front of the other, upper body leaning slightly forward. I've focused on defensive and competitive pistol shooting so much in the last two years, that when I put up my hands in a Krav fight stance, I am often leading with my left, same as I would with a gun. I shoot left-handed, but fight right-handed (or at least did). Using a Krav stance, it's easier for me to switch back and forth from righty to southpaw. Although I'm not Sugar Ray Deerslayer, I feel that it's an advantage to be able to fight either way. Now, when I hit the bag, I switch back and forth with no problem. I wish I could get back into Krav.

I'm not a big fan of the squared slides myself. However, the Trojan, Ranger, and Guardian (the three I really like) are more traditional.

If I were going to buy a 9mm 1911 (and I may sooner or later), it would be an STI Trojan. Best bang for the 1911 buck around... STI International, Inc.

In other words, there is no difference.

Yes, I have killed many deer, all with one shot, some with less than perfect shot placement, none with a .223, though. Sometimes deer will still run 100 yards after a perfect shot--heart, lungs blown to hell, and they still run. Think about what you're saying--if you've heard of deer not going down with a 7 Mag, why would you use a .223? See above post for a basic explanation of the differences between a .223 and .243. If you believe that the only difference is bullet diameter, I wonder if you've ever shot at a deer, or even fired a rifle. If you had ever shot both across a bench, you would know there is a difference. Also, your math is a bit lacking--the difference is .019", not .23". .223 + .23 = .453. A thumper for sure. Who sounds stupid now?

I have a friend who has killed a deer with his AR, but I wouldn't try it. Why hunt with something that may kill a deer? Deer are tougher than humans, so the using-what-the-government-recommends-for-killing-humans philosophy is invalid, IMHO. Shot placement on deer is critical with any caliber, but even more so with a .223. Think of it as shooting skeet with a 12 guage vs. shooting skeet with a .410. Which is more challenging? The consequences are more serious than a missed clay. Leaving a wounded animal to die slowly and rot may discourage your daughter from ever hunting again. If she can't handle a .30-30, .243, or 7.62X39, I'd wait about taking her.

So, if he shot a one hole five shot group after shooting a 3" five shot group that he forgot to tell us about, how is this any better than three shots groups?
-
2 rounds touching @ 200 yards = possible luck 3 rounds touching @ 200 yards = great shooting Nothing left to prove with a 5 shot group. Congrats on getting her dialed in. Wish I could shoot like that.

How often and where do you train in Memphis? Do you offer daily classes, or simply one or two day workshops? I am interested in strictly hand-to-hand training, and I already have some Krav experience.

Help, HCP expired.... Renewed in April
deerslayer replied to Tony B's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Mine also expires this month. I sent in my renewal in May, and got a letter from TDOS in early June. The letter stated that it would serve as a temporary carry permit until my renewal arrives. However, it also stated in bold type: "This letter will expire in 90 days from the above date (May 30) and become void should your background check reveal any criminal charges." So, does this mean A) it will become void in 90 days if they find criminal charges, or does it mean it will become void if criminal charges are discovered, but will be void after 90 days regardless? -
capbyrd, wuuzzup? Welcome from Tad, the UPS guy.

Call A&H Tree Service. They recently cut down a tree for me, and I was impressed. They charged $50 extra to grind the stump, although this may have been a discounted price since they were already cutting the tree down. Their stump grinder looked like a mammoth circular saw and was well worth the price of admission. That thing blew through our 2 ft diameter stump in 20-30 seconds.

ATTN all Dillon 550/650 owners...
deerslayer replied to deerslayer's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I knew Dillon would take care of it, but still wanted to figure out what went wrong. BTW, it's back in business. -
It seems a bit pointless to OC at a mall with a "no guns rule", whether properly posted or not. Once the Barney Fife security guards see you OCing, you will be asked to leave. If you don't, you are then trespassing. Definitely not cowardly, but not very bright, either. Blatantly breaking somebody else's rules on their property is a recipe for trouble.

(and maybe SDB/1050 as well) I was rolling right along loading some 9mm, when re-sizing brass with my Dillon 550 got really easy. Too easy. My first thought was "another .380 case." I quickly learned that wasn't the case (no pun intended). I cracked the body collar that the bellcrank rides against, which forces the powder bar to open. After a little digging, I discovered that the screw that runs through the body collar into the powder measure body will work its way loose. When this happens, the bellcrank pushes against the body collar at an angle, and it eventually breaks it. This may be an issue of common sense, but I've never been abudantly blessed in this area. Check that body collar screw. FYI!

Where does a 120 grain bullet fall in the .264 line? Is it a lighter weight bullet, or on the heavy end? IMO, if it's in the lighter half, you may be disappointed with what happens at 3600 fps with a Ballistic Tip. I've had trouble with .30 150 grain Ballistic Tips coming apart badly on 125 pound deer, and those were @ 2900 fps. BTW, doesn't the .264 Mag have a reputation for being tough on barrels? Or am I thinking of something else? Congrats on finding a tack-driving load. Sounds like you've got her dialed in.

Tri-State Regional IDPA match is approaching...
deerslayer replied to deerslayer's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Pretty much all have trophies or plaques for different divisions/classifications. Most matches have a prize table (some are bigger than others). In IDPA, prizes are by drawing; that is, a winner and a last-place finisher have equal chances of getting something off the prize table. In IPSC/USPSA, prizes are given to winners, 2nd place finishers, etc. The prize tables usually tend to be nicer in IPSC/USPSA. The Tri-State Regional has significantly reduced the prize table, with the benefit of reduced match fees. $55 for a full-blown sanctioned IDPA match is as good as it gets. -
If you don't use a rifle, the debate may not be immediately neutralized.

The numbers can be made to say anything you want. What is the "mass component" of energy? Is it the same for everything? What is the use of KE if it can't be used to tell which gun will knock over a heavy object? What does KE describe? I bet a formula can be contrived that will convert momentum/power factor to kinetic energy.
