  1. except .50 BMG.
  2. I have the Howard Leights and love them. I won a pair of Peltor T6 muffs last weekend at a match, and the Howard Leights blow them away. Sound quality and volume are better, and one button turns them on and off, as opposed to one on each side on the Peltors. Also, like someone above said, the batteries are a pain to change on the Peltors. If you have more sensitive ears, neither are top-notch for indoor shooting with guns > 9mm or .40.
  3. Today, I tried this with my Glock 34 (w/ 13 lb. recoil spring). I could get the slide about halfway back. If the dude claims that the gun is stock, I have no reason to doubt him. Like everything else, there's some practiced technique involved, I'm sure.

  5. The author of the article did not make that distinction.
  6. Of course, but if criminals were so terrified of them, they would never resist arrest or knuckle with the cops, either.
  7. How is this unfair? The article didn't specify cops or OCers, it only said "criminals will avoid an armed person." Cops are usually armed. If criminals always avoided armed people, cops would get more cooperation from them. Lots of security guards wear uniforms that look like cops, but are unarmed. Thus, wearing a uniform is not always a "sign that you are packing heat."
  8. Maybe, maybe not. How do you know I would lose? I said the majority of OCers I have seen in public. How many of the same ones have you seen? It may not be as hard as you think for a thug to sneak up on an old, overweight OCer and overtake him/her. As for the redneck comment, I did not generalize all OCers, only a portion of those I have personally observed in public. Next time, read all of the post before you respond.
  9. Carrying a concealed firearm presents to a criminal that I am unarmed. No, it simply means I am not obviously armed. As many carry permits as there are issued today, and with all the press they get, some criminals doubtlessly are concerned with concealed weapons. Every study I’ve ever read, not most but every study, says that criminals will avoid an armed person or home when selecting a victim. Right. Cops never get attacked. Gun cabinets are such scary targets for burglars. By making it clear and obvious that I am armed, that I have teeth, I tip the risk scale to the point that the criminal’s gains are far outweighed by the risk. I bet I could use my bare hands to disarm and neutralize the majority of Ocers that I have seen in public. I wish some of them would at least lose the suspenders and wipe the chili out of their ZZ-Top beards. They are projecting the image of the guns-and-religion rednecks that Obama wants everyone to believe in. The point of this flawed article seems to imply that CC is useless. If OC is so great, and makes it so obvious that you are not one to be trifled with, why do OCers scoff at shoot-me-first vests, as OCers call them? Are they not accomplishing the same thing?
  10. Hmmm...I don't think there's any "tactical advantage" to lose in a gun shop. Would-be robbers probably know there may be guns there... Besides, what's the liklihood of becoming a target inside a gun shop full of rednecks and right-wingers? Sounds like one of the safer places to be.
  11. I had a Kimber Compact CDP II (Officer frame/4" barrel). Worst $990 I've ever spent, but I will admit, it was a 1-holer @ 10 yards.
  12. What about a 3.5 or 4" 1911 with an Officers frame? IIRC, the Commander is simply a full size 1911 - 3/4" of barrel. Same grip, which really doesn't help much if the butt of the gun is what you are trying to conceal. An Officers frame is shorter (from mag base to rear sight), and would be easier to hide. OAL is shorter also, and makes concealment easier if we are talking about OWB holsters. If you're sold on a 1911, seems like a no brainer.
  13. An Attorny General's opinion of a law tells little of the motivation behind getting the law passed. I think keeping accidental "printers" out of harm's way was a big reason some lawmakers initially pushed for no required concealment. Having said that, I don't want a concealed-only law. I just wish more OCers were a little more aware and concious of (and concerned about) the image they that they provide for the sheep.
  14. Does a camcorder exist that enables the user to simply dump video footage in My Videos (in My Documents) on the hard drive, then just open/view them with Windows Media Player? My camera (camera which also shoots video, not a camcorder) does just that, but shoots in AVI, which means that five seconds of video takes up 94 GBs of space (well, not quite that much). It seems that camcorders today use several different formats that all require some type of conversion process, which is a royal pain if you are as technologically ignorant as I am. Does anyone make a simple plug-and-play camcorder for use with Media Player, or am I just a dimwit?
  15. What do you want for your 34?
  16. Some note that 147s hit a little high, but mine are dead on. I run a Glock 34 with a 13 pound spring. 3.2 grains of Titegroup gets me about 890 fps and almost 131 PF. My 115 load makes about the same PF, but recoil is noticably stiffer. The 147s shoot more softly, and are better on steel targets. They run flawlessly, and they are worth the extra $20/1K, IMO. I love 'em.
  17. Most are subsonic. I believe speed of sound = 1088 fps @ sea level. 1200 fps w/ 147 is a Major 9 load used by USPSA guys w/ Open guns.
  18. if looking for an IDPA match... I'll be heading to Puryear to shoot the KY-TN Regional. Don't forget the Tri-State Regional Sep 12, MS State Championship Oct 10, TN State Championship Oct 17, and GA State Oct 24--all within driving distance for many in TN. I'm SOing in the Tri-State, and planning to attend KY-TN and MS State. I'm thinking about Birmingham, AL in November.
  19. and we can probably outshoot you...
  20. what he said Try ordering an M&P frame and having it sent to your house. Let us know how that goes. The frame is the gun, as far as ATF is concerned.
  21. Guess they decided the Kimber method sucked...
  22. This is not true.
  23. I didn't know that the trigger on the P3AT was that bad--I was pleasantly suprised by it. In fact, a friend and I shot our P3ATs at IDPA targets at 35 yards one day and suprised ourselves. If only it wasn't a .380... As for the Glock subcompacts, I have a 27 and think it's the greatest carry gun ever made (but that's just me). HOWEVER, +1 on what someone above said--depends on your build and pants if it will work for pocket carry. I'm 5'10/190, and the 27 in my pocket makes everybody think I'm REALLY glad to see them, if you know what I mean
